lone Grange Holds New Year's Party. By ECHO PALMATEER A New Years party was held at the Grange hall New Years eve for the young people of the community. They furnished the music and refreshments. Leo Crabtree, Earl Morgan, Mrs Lewis Halvorsen assisted Mrs Hershall Townsend, who was chairman of the party arrange ments. Mr and Mrs Walter Jacobs en tertained at a New Years eve party at their home. Mrs Mabel Cotter returned home Thursday of last week from Bozeman, Montana where she attended the wedding of a nephew, Michael Cotter of Austin, Minn and Miss Genevieve Ward of Bozeman. The wedding took place Dec 30 in the Holy Rosary Catholic church in Bozeman and was followed by a reception. Mrs Cotter made the trip there by plane but came home on a train and bus. Mr and Mrs Joe Hausler are the parents of a daughter, Robin, born Jan 2, at the Pioneer Mem orial hospital. Weight 9 lbs and 7 oz. Mr and Mrs Fred Ross of Salem are the grandparents and Mrs Ursula Akers of Salem is the great grandmother. Robin was the first baby to be born at the hospital in 1959. Funeral services were held for Mrs Dora L Pierrot In Pendle ton at the Fulsom chapel Wed nesday, Jan 7. Mrs Pierott was born Oct 15, 1880 in Illinois and died in Pendleton Jan 4. She came west in 1906 and made her home in Portland for the past 30 years. She is survived by one daughter, Mrs Franklin (Gladys) Ely of lone. A son passed away in infancy, one sister, Mrs Bertha Homan of Arapaho, Okla and one brother, Roy Cox of Blackwell, Okla; two grandchildren, Mrs Delmer Crawford of lone and Fayne Ely of Portland.; 6 great grandchildren and several neph ews and nieces. Mr and Mrs Donald Linnell and children and Mrs Jessie Hartfield spent the holidays In California where they visited Mrs Linnell's sister and family, Mr and Mrs Larry Sabin of Pico. They went to Disney land and Knotts Berry farm while there. Mr and Mrs Arthur Crawford entertained the following guests New Years day, Mrs John Voor hees and daughters of Portland, Mr and Mrs Harlan Crawford and children of Echo, Mr and Mrs Tad Miller and children of Lex ington, Mr and Mrs Milton Mor gan and children, Mr and Mrs Delmer Crawford and daughters and Rollo Crawford all of lone. Duane Baker underwent an ap pendectomy at the Pioneer Mem orial hospital Friday of last week He is a student at Stanford Unt versity and he and family spem the holidays here with his par ents, Mr and Mrs E Markham Baker. Mr and Mrs Noel Dobyns spent last week in Portland. Mr and Mrs L L Howton enter tained at a New'Years eve party at their home. A potluck supper was served and cards and other games were played. Mr and Mrs L L Howton enter tained at a party at their home Sunday evening in honor of their son John's birthday and Mary Emert's birthday. Those present were the juniors and seniors of the high school. A buffet supper was served at 6 o'clock and dan cing, games and refreshments were enjoyed afterwards. Gary Brenner recently visited his parents, Mr and Mrs C E Brenner. He was accompanied by Ray Nelson, Gary Morris and Don Hastay all of Portland. Mrs Harold Dobyns returned home Tuesday of last week from Portland where she visited her son and family, Mr and Mrs Jerry Holly. Her other son and family, Mr and Mrs Russell Holly Jr and family of Seattle came to Port land to visit her. Mr and Mrs Ronald Fahl and children of Portland visited her parents, Mr and Mrs James Botts last week. Mr and Mrs Franklin Lind strom entertained the following at their homo New Years day: Mr and Mrs Warren Crutcher of Oresham. Mrs Anna Lindstrom. Pvt Rudy Bergstrom of Fort Hood, Texas spent his furlough with his parents, Mr and Mrs William Bergstrom. Pvt Roy Lindstrom ana m Arthur Lindstrom left Saturday for San Jose, Calif where they visited Bill Gorger before going to their base at Fort Ord. They spent their furlough with their parents, Mr and Mrs Franklin Llndtsrom. Mr and Mrs Ronald McCabe of Brookings were visitors at the Franklin Lindstrom home last week. Susan Lindstrom also spent a few days at the Lindstrom home. Pomona Grange Meets Morrow County Pomona Grange No 29 met at Willows Oranse hall in lone on January 3, 1959 with 53 members attend- ing. Vernon Munkers gave a very interesting agricultural report on Ms rriD to Denver to the Nat ional Association of Wheatgrow prs. He is chairman of the mark eting and transportation commit tee of the Oregon Wheat League. Nels Anderson reported on at tending the stockman's short course at Washington State Col lege in December. The lecturer's program with Mrs Harold Dobvns in charge consisted of two songs by Linda Halvorsen, Brenda Townsend and Dalene McDonald; a talk by sheriff C J D Bauman on civil rights; and pictures shown by Echo Palmateer on her trip to Mexico. After the regular meeting the Lexington Grange was host to the installation ceremony for all subordinate grange officers for Morrow county with Joe Gutt ridge as installing officer. , Special guests at this meeting were, Joe Guttrldge, Oregon State Grange assistant steward and J Henry Hendrickson, Oregon State , Grange overseer and state deputy. I Also present was Clyde Tanne . hill of Boardman who is county ! deputy. Dinner was served at I noon and evening. The next meeting of Morrow county Pamona Grange will be held at the Lexington Grange nail on April 4. Pvt Billie Seehafer who is in the United States Army WACS was home over the holidays visit ing her parents, Mr and Mrs W G Seehafer at Boardman and sis ters, Mrs Joe Gaarsland and Mrs Walter Corley and families In lone. She is stationed at Fort McClellan, Alabama and will be stationed in Texas the latter part of January for dental technician training. Guests at the Walter Corley home for New Years were, Mr and Mrs W G Seehafer, Mildred; Mr and Mrs Walter Seehafer from Foster, Oregon; Mr and Mrs Joe Gaarsland and family; Walter R Corley from Heppner; and Ann Belle Coleman. Guests at the G Hermann home New Years day were, Mr and Mrs Fred Rauch of Lexington; Mr and Mrs Julian Rauch and Mr and Mrs Rudolph Klinger of Herm iston, Miss Lena Hoeft of Port land, Mrs Ottille Hunt and Mrs Tillie Rauch of Heppner and Mr and Mrs Harold Dobyns. January 8. 1959 Monument News By MARTHA MATTESON Mr and Mrs Clarence Holmes drove to Boise, Idaho for the Christmas holiday with Mr and Mrs Steve Holmes and son. Mrs Helen Brown accompanied Mr and Mrs Jack Cavenger and three daughters to Portland Tues day where they visited over Christmas with relatives. Mr and Mrs Dean Enright and two sons and Mr and Mrs Tom Youngs drove to Las Vegas, Nev ada for the weekend. Gene Vaughan was In Heppner Wednesday afternoon, to bring home his wife and new son David Dale, who weighed 6 lb 3 oz and was born Dec 21 at the Hepp ner hospital Mr and Mrs Melvin Rounds and sons of Bend were here for the week visiting Mr and Mrs Ed Rounds. Mr and Mrs Bob Leslie and children of Bend spent Christ mas here visiting her folks, the Roy Corks. Mr and Mrs Delbert Stubble field and children were here from their home on the coast, to spend Christmas week visiting his mo ther, Ellen tfnd brother, Norris and family. Mr and Mrs Mead Gllman went to LaGrande December 23, spend ing the vacation there visiting their son Donald and family, who were visiting her parents during his furlough from camp in Ala bama. Dale Matteson and uncle Har ley Matteson were in Christmas day. Mr and Mrs Stanley Boyer were hosts at the family Christmas dinner. Those present were Mrs Edna Moore and two children, Mr and Mrs Barney Cork and three children, Mr and Mr9 Roy Cork, Mr and Mrs Bob Leslie and three children. Mr and Mrs Fred McWillls and Mr and Mrs Lilburn Hunt and two children took their potluck dinner to the Cottonwood school where the Gienger family holds all their parties and dances. Mr and Mrs Dick Williams took their niece to Pendleton for Christmas day with her folks, Mr and Mrs Glenn Williams.
