Monument News Miss Louane Jewell of Kinzua spent the weekend here visiting at the Henry Martin home. Mr and Mrs Ansll Martin were here from Prineville Saturday evening. They came after their son, Gary Allen, who had spent the week here with his grand parents, Mr and Mrs Henry Mar tin. Charlie Williams came home Wednesday night to visit his folks, the Dick Williams. He re turned to his school in Pasco Sunday night. Mr and Mrs Gus Peterson drove to Pendleton Wednesday on busi ness. Mrs Ivan Smith went to Prine ville Monday, taking her two children for medical aid. Gerald Slocum drove to Pen dleton Monday on business. Mrs Dick Williams, accompan ied Mr and Mrs Chuck Van Detta to Pendleton Saturday, taking the Glenn Williams baby over for a check-up and for the mother to see him. Tests on whether irradiated foods are wholesome and safe to eat will be extended into the sixth year at Oregon State college this winter with a new $28,750 grant from the office of the surgeon general department of the army White rats are used as test animals. They are being fed pork, peaches, carrots and Jam irradiated for preservation at the Idaho Falls, Ida, atomic energy installation. Irradiated foods will keep for vastly longer periods than others and do not require refrigeration, They show considerable promise for military and home use In the future. To date ln the OSC tests, no differences whatever have been found between rats on Irradiated and non-Irradiated diets. Length of life, weight gains, body tissue composition, and number of off spring are compared. Dr Edward C Bubl, agricultural chemist, Is leader of the project.
