Monument News By MARTHA MATTESON The Revs Ruby Roach, Percy Hartland and Van Huzzor held services here Wednesday. They were overnight guests at the Barnard and Owlngs homes. Theron King spent the week end at Pendleton with his fam ily. Mr and Mrs Ansll Martin mov ed to Prlnevllle Friday where he has employment. Mr and Mrs A C Owlngs re turned home Wednesday even ing from visiting relatives at Madras and Redmond. Maynard Hamilton and Ger ald Slocum drove to Heppner and Pendleton Monday on business. Mr and Mrs Henry Martin drove to Heppner Monday on business. Mike Ogle, Charles Williams and Mrs Frank Raines and two children left Monday for Pasco, Wash where the boys are in college. Mrs Raines will visit relatives there for a week. Mr and Mrs Sam Scott and son drove to Vale for the week end to visit his mother and other relatives. Mrs Ansll Martin spent Tues day and Wednesday In Heppner visiting her grandparents, Mr and Mrs Nels Bailey. Mr and Mrs Joe Batty of La Grande were here for the week end visiting her folks, the Henry Cuppers. The M M M club met Thurs day at the home of Mae McWillls with Mrs Elmer Matteson as co hostess. The sophomores outdid them selves decorating, and the gym was a good duplication of Dog patch. Admission was reasonable, since girls paid the boy's way. The dances were all girls choice. During a short intermission, a tasty snack of cider and cookies was served. After the Inter mission girls and boys lined up and the best looking couple was selected. Sharon Case was the winner of the girls prize, and Omer Huston won the prize for the boys. Sleepy looking Rainbow Girls Terebonne were weekend call ers at the Roy Corks. Mrs Cholcey Vandetta and Mrs Jessie Scott spent Friday even ing at Long Creek. Gerald Slocum drove to John Day Wednesday on business. Dale Matteson of Heppner and parents, Mr and Mrs Elmer Mat teson spent Saturday evening in Long Creek on business. Mr and Mrs Richard Martin of Salem were here for a few days. Barney Cork and family of Ma dras were visiting relatives here for a few days. Mr and Mrs Herb Hynd of Cecil, Maynard Hamilton and Gerald Slocum were visitors at the Lee Slocum home Sunday. went trudging all over Heppner Saturday, November 8, at 6:00 a m. The purpose was to kid nap as many girls as possible and drag these unsuspecting victims off to a breakfast at the Masonic hall. After a good warm breakfast, Miss Esther KIrmis, Morrow county home demonstra tion agent, spoke to the group on "Friendship". The Heppner high school band will host an autumn band fes tival on November 14, for seven different schools. The program, which begins at 8:00 p m in the high school gym, will, include all types of musical numbers. The various schools will be massed Into one large band, which will consist of 185 pieces. As a special feature of the evening, Wilbur Jensen, formerly with the Chi cago Symphony, will perform as guest soloist Schools participa ting in the program include Ipne, Echo, Boardman, Irrigon, Condon and Fossil. Heppner's Mustangs will play in the an nual basketball jamboree which preceeds all scheduled games and then will meet Helix on December 5, for the first game. National School Assemblies will present a program on far eastern affairs, featuring No Yong Park. He will talk about Oriental and Asian affairs on Tuesday, November 18. Although report cards will not come out until Thursday, November 13, 'students are aware of how they have done In their classes. Everyone will be given a short vacation on November 27 and 28 (Thursday and Friday) for Thanksgiving. This gives stu dents a nice long weekend, and also a chance for a good rest before tackling those homework assignments again. Most of the college students will be home during this vacation, and every one can hardly wait to see all their old friends. Mr and Mrs Stanley Holm and family visited over the weekend at Quincy, Washington with Mr and Mrs Norman Peters, former Heppner residents.
