HEPPNER GA2ETTE-TIMES, ThuMday, November 6. 1959 Monument News By MARTHA MATTESON Mr and Mrs Roy Arlet Cork and children came In from Port land where he had been In a hospital recovering from Injuries received while fixing a tire. They spent a week here then went to their home at Bend. Mrs Edna Moore held a family supper Wednesday evening In honor of her son Emory's 9th birthday. Present were his sisters Darlene Boyer, Nlta Cork, their husbands and children and Miss Jackie Moore. Mr and Mrs Gerald Slocum re turned Saturday evening from spending a few days In The Dal les. The Rho Bleakmans spent Sun day at Mt Vernon visiting her folks, the Dave Bleakmans. Dave is on the sick list this week. Stanley Boyer and Barney Cork made a business trip to John Day Monday. Mr and Mrs Harold Cork were in Pendleton on business Tues day. Mr and Mrs II W Scott and son moved Into one of the Mc Wlllls houses Tuesday. Mrs Harold Wright of Rhea creek same in Monday to visit nther. Mrs Wave Jackson. Tuesdav Mrs Wilbur Flowers ac companied them to Jonn Day ana then went to Prinevllle where she spent the rest of the week with her husband. Mrs Jackson and Mrs Wright returned Tues day. Mr and Mrs Harold Lippert drove to Redmond Thursday on business. Mrs Evelyn Farrens accompan ied Mrs Harold Wright when she came over Monday .She visited with her son Darrell Farrens and family. Mr and Mrs Frank Raines and children of Crescent City, Calif are here for elk hunting. They are visiting the Dick Williams family. Hunters and the Bleakman and Musgrave ranches were John Thomas and Curtis Foster of Jew el, Ore, Vern Goe of St Helens, Mr and Mrs Tuffy Holman of The Dalles, Mr and Mrs Ray Schwarz of Hood River, Mr and Mrs Dave Musgrave and Mrs Raymond Stowe of Mt Vernon, Mr and Mrs Carl Isom of Irrigon, Mr and Mrs Les Hellman and son and Ethel Hellman of The Dalles, Bill Smith of Hood River, Jack and Norman Leake of Port land, Mr and Mrs Orval Wyland, Barbara, Jim and Boom of Oregon City, Mr and Mrs Vernon Webb and daughter, Mr and Mrs Vir gil Webb and son-in-law of Esta cade, Mr and Mrsk Marvin Sadd ler and family of Kinzua. They all had good hunting and all had meat to take home. Mrs L Verda Cox and Mable Corley went to John Day Tues day to see Johnny Cox who Is in the hospital with third degree burns. Rh0 Bleakman, Stanley Mus grave and Jack Forrest are all hauling gravel from the Harold Cork ranch this week. They are building cellars and fixing drive ways. Mr and Mrs Ray Ogle and Mr and Mrs Phil Ogle went to Port land this week. Bea intends to stay there a few days for medi cal treatment and Phil and fam ily will go on to the coast to visit her sister. Mr and Mrs Ray Ogle will return this weekend. Mr and Mrs E E Howell were in Heppner Friday on business. The Mattesons received word the past week of the death of Arthur Shamblinnow of Portland, but formerly of Heppner. He worked on the railroad for many years. 4-H Club News IONE SEWING CLUB The 4-H Sewing club held our first meeting Tuesday afternoon at the school house with our leader, Veda Brenner. We selected a new name for our club, it is The Sew and Sew Girls. Our new officers are, presi dent, Sandra Eubanks; vice-president, Arleta McCabe; secretary Ireasurer, Sherry Corley; news reporter, Delores Emert and song leader, Merrilee Leathers. We will meet the second and fourth Tuesday of each month. Sandra and her mother, Mrs Eubanks, were hostesses and they served boston cream cake and hot chocolate with marsh mallows.
