lone Highlights By FRANCINE CRAWFORD Installation of the Community church school teachers and of 'ficers was held during the Sun day morning church hour. There were 19 church school teachers and officers installed. The October meeting of the P-TA met on Wednesday even ing. The meeting was called to order by president, Mrs. Wallace Matthews. Membership chair man, Mrs Earl McCabe reported that to date 119 had joined the P-TA. The 1958 and 1959 budget was approved. The P-TA will serve a dinner at the school cfe torium on October 24 at 5:00. The prices will, be $.75 and $.50. It was decided that the P-TA will sponsor The UNICEF program again this year. The room count was received by the freshman class and the fifth grade. In ob servance of United Nations Day Dallas Shockley gave a report and Mrs Harold Dobyns showed her slides of their recent trip to Europe. Refreshments were served by Mrs L F Leathers, Mrs Harold Sherer, Mrs Ray Heimbig-' ner, Mrs Darrel Padberg and Mrs Ralph Crum. Mr and Mrs Arthur Matthews and son, Ivan of Roseburg were recent guests of his brother, Mr and Mrs Wallace Matthews. Rollo Crawford spent a few days last week in Portland. The Maranatha's met at the home of Mrs Bed Akers on Wednesday, October 8 with a buffet dinner served at noon and the meeting following. Election of officers was held with officers elected being president, Mrs Markham Baker; vice president, Mrs Mar ion Palmer; and secretary-treasurer, Mrs Lloyd Howton. The group accepted the Friendly Service quota for the foreign missions. Reports. were given of those attending the Condon and Hood River Women Fellowship meeting. The Maranatha's will serve a dinner on Wednesday at the Midland district meeting. Mrs Dale Raye received the door prize. Mrs Ernest Heliker, Mrs Wal lace Matthews and Mrs Ernest Lundell attended the Umatilla county Rebekah district conven tion in Weston on Saturday. Miss Betty Gorger and friends of Eastern Oregon college visited Mr and Mrs David Baker and family at Hatrock on Sunday. Mr and Mrs Tom Bristow and family of Portland visited rela tives and friends In lone and Heppner over the weekend. Edmund Bristow, Milton Mor gan, Robert Drake, and Lloyd Morgan attended the Oregon vs USC game Saturday in Port land. Dates To Remember: Oct 17 HEC club all day meet ing at Lewis Halvorsen's. The members will take any kind of job, the amount earned will be turned over to the P F to' be sent to the state president for missions and new churches. Berl Akers and Judy Mason, students at Pacific University were at their homes in lone over the weekend. Mr' and Mrs Richard Rea are the parents of a daughter, Donna Marie, born on October 9 weigh ing 7 lbs. She was born at the Good Shephard hospital in Her- transportation Mr and Mrs Orlind Huston and family of Troutdale, and Sun day guests were, Mr and Mrs Fritz Klienschmidt and family of Pendleton. Mr and Mrs Corliss McLeod have purchased a new trailer house and have moved to Hepp ner. Mr and Mrs W E Melena re turned Friday from Buckhorn Springs where they have spent ten days hunting.
