Sorority The October meeting of Beta Omega chapter of Epsilon Sigma Alpfla was held at the home of Mrs Delmar Buschke in Heppner on Wednesday evening, October 1. A report was given on forming a sister chapter in Heppner. The chapter will help gather articles for the V F W of Lex ington rummage sale. The educational program was turned over to Mrs Robert Peter son who introduced Mrs Verle Green of Heppner who gave a nnort on What's New In Hair Styles. , Refreshments wore served by Mrs Buschke, Mrs Corliss McLeod and Mrs Robert Peterso:i. ?oroptimist Club Gives Daffodil Bulbs to City Park Mrs John Pfeiffer, vice presi dent, presided at the Thursday noun meeting of the Soroptimist club of Heppner, in the absence of the president, Mrs Floyd Adams. This was the regular monthly business meeting and all com mittee reports were given. The project committee announ cer that a large bed, 300 bulbs, of King Alfred daffodils had been given to the city park and they are now planted. Last year the club gave a bed of red tulips to 'the park. Hall, Mrs James J Farley, Mrs Alex Thompson, Mrs Allen Case, Mrs Richard Meador and Mrs Conley Lanham. High score was held by Mrs Gunderson, Mrs Labhart was sec ond and Mrs Farley, low. Mrs Blake Has High Score at Bridge Mrs P W Mahoney was hostess last Wednesday afternoon for tie first fall meeting of the Whats Trumps bridge club. Extension Unit Has Project on Color Tho regular meeting of the Rhea Creek Extension unit was held at the grange hall Friday, October 3, with 16 members pres ent. After a potluck dinner at noon, Miss Esther Kirmis, home dem onstration agent, gave a very in teresting demonstration, A Les son in Color. "OVER THE TEE CUP" By JACKIE LABHART The wind came dashing from the north, with sudden roars and squalls. Leapfrogging over little hills, and grabbing all our balls. The wind was wild, it couldn't seem, to get it's fill of fun. On no 2 it hit full force and with our balls did run. from the little "ditty" above, old man weather wasn't very hos pitable to our guests from the Kinzua Country Club; but our spirits were not "clouded" by the atmospheric conditions, in fact you might say we had "gales" of laughter. Our usual ladies day players blew in along with 12 "gusty gals" from Kinzua. Chief cook Herb served us a deliscious chicken dinner In the Wishing Well patio and then all 31 wo men played the required nine holes. Following the breezy battle with our balls, we all met at the "Mattoon Sky Room" in the Heppner Hotel for cake and cof fee. Prizes were awarded to Doro thy Close of Kinzua for low gross score (45) and the longest drive on no 6. Heppner winners were Shirley Loyd, longest drive; and I carded low gross score (41). Mary Putnum of Kinzua also re ceived a special award Cnuff said). Saturday, Marie Noble and my mother of Monmouth, and Vi Lanham, Hazel Mahoney and I really burned up the course. (Were burned up at the course would be more apropos). And this phrase has a double mean ing, for the sun was extremely hot . . . and my mother and Marie were quite "put out" with their golf game. We also saw Velma Glass and "friend" and Bonnie Mattoon with her mother. (Heard Bonnie's mother carded a lower score than her offspring.) With the coming of hunting season, numerous golfers have heeded the call of woods (not golf clubs) and therefore our links have been rather devoid of activity. But one former Hepp nerite, Howard Gilliam, now of Salem, after a fruitless weekend of hunting decided he might have more luck hitting some thing with a club instead of gun; so he blasted a golf ball around our course Monday. Howard who plays quite a bit of golf out of Salem thought our coufse was quite tricky and offered quite a challenge to one's short game. Before I empty my tee cup this week, all the women of Wil low Creek Country Club would like to thank Herb Hamilton of the Wishing Well and Bonnie Mattoon for their cooperation in making our ladies day visitation by Kinzua a wonderful success.
