I Mrs Harold Dobyns gave a very interesting report on the 11 coun tries visited recently in Europe. I Mrs Edith Nichoson received the door prize. I The Maranatha club met at the home of Mrs Echo Palmateer Wednesday afternoon, July 9 with Mrs Wallace Matthews as co-hostess. There were 15 mem bers and two guests present. The guests were Mrs Frances Piper and Mrs Fredrick Martin. Mrs Floyd Bailey gave a reading fol lowed by a prayer. Mrs Bailey and Mrs Noel Dobyns will at tend the Women's retreat meet ing at camp Adams near Molalla beginning July 14. Mrs Martin received the door prize. Mr and Mrs Keith Rea and son are living in one of the O'Meara apartments. Word was received of the death of the small daughter of Mr and Mrs Frank Helina Jr of Seattle last week. She was the grand daughter of Mr and Mrs Frank Helina Sr of Seattle and the great granddaughter of Mrs An na Lindstrom of lone. Mr and Mrs Rex Burt and daughter, Kathy and a niece, Peggy Cooper of Waldport visi ted at the Jesse Warfield home last week. Mrs Burt is the former Earlene Read and is a cousin of Mr Warfield. Weekend guests at the War field home were Mrs Florence Evans and Mr and Mrs Robert Evans and children, Jimmie, Tommy and Susan of Hubbard. They are also cousins of Mr War field. Mrs Delia Corson attended the funeral services of Mrs Clara Shippey in Portland Tuesday, July 8. Mrs Shippey was a former resident of this community. Mr and Mrs Fredrick Martin and children visited relatives last week in West Linn. Guests last week at the Al fred Nelson Jr home were Mr and Mrs F N Merewether and family and Miss Loretta Rose of Spokane and Mr and Mrs S C Randell of Portland. Kathleen and Mike Merewether are stay ing at the Nelson home and as sisting with the harvest. I Mrs Fannie Griffith returned home Friday of last week from Olympia Wash and Post Falls, 1 Idaho where she visited relatives. Mr and Mrs Chris Jepsen of I Valley, Wash visited his brother and family, Mr and Mrs Walter j Jepsen and other relatives last week. They were accompanied by their daughter and son-in-law, Mr and Mrs Bill Daley of Tulsa, Oklahoma. Mr and Mrs Holmes Gabbert entertained at a family reunion at the home south of lone Sun day. Guests present were Mr and Mrs Fred Mankin, of Heppner, Dwight Gabbert and daughters of Palo Alto, California, Mr arid Mrs Al Bunch and family of Heppner, and Mr and Mrs Ro bert Meyer and family of Port land. Mr and Mrs Garland Swan son celebrated their 25th anni versary June 30 by taking a week's trip to Kelowna, B C Can ada. They took their boat along and did some fishing and boat ing on Lake Okanagan. They also visited relatives there. Mr and Mrs Delmer Crawford entertained at a dinner Sunday, July 13 in honor of Mrs Wate Crawford's birthday. Others pre sent were Mr Wate Crawford, Mr and Mrs Milton Morgan and children, Mr and Mrs Clyde Crawford and sons, of lone, Mr and Mrs Harlan Crawford and daughter, Tara, of Echo, and Mr and Mrs Tad Miller and child ren of Lexington. Mr and Mrs Kenneth Turner are staying at the Garland Swan son home. He is assisting cutting grain on the Swanson ranch with his combine. Mr and Mrs Wallace Matthews and daughters attended the Odd Fellow and Rebekah picnic at Cutsforth camp in the mountains Sunday. They reported a large crowd and a very enjoyable time. Mrs Ida Grabill and Mrs E W Brlstow attended the funeral ser vices of Mrs Caroline Cason at Lone Rock Friday, July 11. Mrs Cason was a sister of Mrs Grab Ill. Lt John Bristow, son of Mr and Mrs E W Bristow and sta tioned at the air base at Malm strom, Great Falls, Montana flew over the Paicfic ocean by way of Pendleton and lone Thursday ev ening. Gene Grabill, who works on the railroad is spending his va cation with relatives in Baker. His mother, Mrs Ida Grabill, is visiting with her daughter and family, Mr and Mrs Everett Keithley in Heppner. Kathy and Robin Rahn of Seattle are visiting their grand parents, Mr and . Mrs Cecil Thome. Their mother, Mrs Arlie Rahn brought them here. Mr and Mrs R F Cummingham of Sappho, Washington visited at the home of their daughter and family, Mr and Mrs Walter Jacobs last week. Mrs Pete Cannon gave a birth day party in honor of her daugh ter. Cathy, Friday afternoon, July 11. She was four years old. After refreshments were served the child! en enjoyed swimming in tlie swimming pool. Guests pre sent were Debbie McLeod, Su san and Billie Jepsen, Marlene and Anita Crawford, John and Lisa McCabe, Carol Hausler, Christine Lindstrom, Greg Ja cobs, Teresa and Tanya Tucker, Barbara and Ricky Boyce, Janet and Ronnie Palmateer and Terry Cannon. Mrs Delmer Crawford gave a party in honor of her daughter, Marlene's 8th birthday Saturday afternoon, July 12. Swimming was enjoyed in the swimming pool after which refreshments were served. Guests present were Maureen McEUigott, Janet Pal mateer, Kathy Keene, Bill Mc Leod, Jimmy McEUigott, Robert Crowell, Janice Snider, Kerry Peterson, Charles Nelson, Renee Leathers, Terry O'Connor, Betty Hausler, all third grade pupils, Deniece and Bernlece Matthews, Terry and Cathy Cannon, Ronnie Palmateer and Anita and Cyn thia Crawford. Mr and Mrs Gaylord Salter are ; the parents of a son, Jeffrey Wil liam, born at Hermiston July 2. I Weight, 6 lbs and 13 oz. Miss Donna La Hue of Her miston Is assisting with the cook ing during harvest at the Dixon Smith ranch. Ted Peterson, a Ford dealer at The Dalles won a week's vacat ion at Las Vegas, Nevada. He was accompanied by Mrs Peter son. He is the son of Henry Peter ion of lone. Mrs Dora Pierrot of Portland is visiting her son-in-law and daughter, Mr and Mrs Franklin Fly. Mr and Mrs Rod Kvistad and son of Beaverton are visiting her parents, Mr and Mrs Oscar Peter son. Mrs Mabel Cotter spent the HEPPNER GAZETTE-TIMES, Thursday, July 17. 1958 first of the week in Portland. She was accompanied by Ralph Martin who went on to West Linn to visit relatives. Mr and Mrs O L Lundell and Mr and Mrs Adon Hamlett and children and Corliss Lundell went to Radium Hot Springs near Haines Sunday where they met Mr and Mrs Harland Lundell and family of Boise, Idaho. Corliss, who has been visiting here for the past week, went back to Boise with her parents. Dennis Swanson, son of Mr and Mrs Garland Swanson flew to Pendleton Saturday from Mc Chord Field in Washington where he completed his AFROTC summer training.
