gOCIAL (-APPENN6S MATTHEW BALLS CELEBRATE 50th WEDDING ANNIVERSARY AT IONE Mr and Mrs Matthew Ball cele brated their Golden Wedding nniversary Sunday, June 6 at lie Legion hall with open house jm 2 to 4 pm. Rev Charles Wilkes, pastor of he Church of the Nazarene, read tribute to the Balls. Mrs Sarah l fcryant, sister of Mrs Ball, sang bown The Sunset Trail, the J tvords and melody which were omposed by Mrs Ball. Mrs Ethel Servik and Mrs Ruby Ni chols poured; Mrs Evelyn Far lens presided at the punch bowl; Mrs Berl Akers had charge of the guest book and Mrs Bryant and Mrs Hatfield assisted with the many lovely gifts. Others assisting about the rooms were Mrs Lewis Ball, Mrs Aldrich, Mrs Donald Ball, Mrs Burnap, Mrs Edison Morgan and Mrs Walter Wright. Around 160 attended the ception. A potluck dinner served at noon. Anna Myra Grabeel, daughter of the late Ransom Russell and Martha Susan Grabeel, and Mat thew Robert Ball, son of the late Jay and Mary Anne Ball, were married in Portland July 10, 1908 and have spent most of their married life in Morrow county. They have two daughters, Helen of lone and Mrs Cecile Geniec of Escondido, Calif. A son, Lester, passed away in 1936. They have two grandchildren and three great grandchildren and their were four generations present, Mrs Geniec, her daughter Mrs Betty Nichols and her three chil dren. The Balls are active workers in the Baptist church here. All of Mr Balls brothers and sisters were present, they are Mrs Evalyn Farrens, Heppner; Edgar Ball, Forest Grove; Mrs Ellen Chapin, Portland; Glenn Ball, Yakima; Elmer Ball, lone; Roy Ball, Boardman; Archie Ball, Heppner; Mrs Pearl Urlacker, Ta coma; Lewis Ball, lone and Mrs Gladys Long, Eugene. Mrs Ball's sisters present were Mrs Ethel Servik and Mrs Sarah Bryant, Portland and Mrs Vie Ball, Forest Grove. Another sis ter, Mrs Ollie Raines of Victor ville, Calif, was unable to at tend. Other relatives and, friends at tending from a distance were E Servik, Mr and Mrs Thomas Otto and Monta, Portland; Mrs Glenn Ball. Guests were Mesdames Delmer Jordan, Marion Green, Glen Ward, Bernard Marshall, James Mallon, Wayne Prock, James Prock, Don Bennett, Carl Thorpe, Kenn imus, James Norene, Wal lace Wolff, William Labhart, treston Robinson, Paul Koenig ana lom Wilson. Mrs Imus held high score for the evening; Mrs Labhart, sec ond; Mrs James Prock, low; Mrs Bennett, jack high and Mrs Nor ene received the door prize. Ricky Gimbel returned home with his grandparents for a weeks visit. Mr and Mrs Earl Briggs enter tained the 4th with a picnic on the lawn at their home. Present were their grandchildren, Jean and John Campbell of Spokane, Wash, Mr and Mrs Guy Fergu son, Mr and Mrs Leonard Bedord and sons Leonard, Jr, Greg and Billie, Mr and Mrs Algy Taylor and Bobbie and Toni, Mr and Mrs A R Fortner, and Mr and Mrs Claud Worden. Mrs Marie Golden of Junction City is visiting at the home of her son-in-law and daughter, Mr and Mrs Roy Partlow. Early potato harvest is under way here with two farmers dig ging. John Partlow and Harold Kress both started Sunday. Mr and Mrs Gene Allen of Seattle, Wash were weekend vis itors at the home of Allen's par ents, Mr and Mrs Arthur Allen. Mr and Mrs Robert Harwood spent the holiday weekend in McMinnville visiting at the home of Mrs Harwood's uncle and aunt, Mr and Mrs Charlie Jenkins. They also visited In Portland at the home of Mr and Mrs Lowell Spagle, Jr, cousins of Mrs Har wood. MARRIED RECENTLY IN IONE were Grace Louise McCabe and Leland O McKinney. The couple will spend the summer in lone then move to Klamath Falls in the fall where be will attend Oregon Technical Institute. The bride, given in marriage by her father, wore a floor length gown of white brocaded satin with lace, fashioned by the bride's mother and her head piece of lace and satin, with veil, was made by the bride. She carried a white orchid on a Bible. Mrs A L Gate, cousin of the bride, was matron of honor and bridemaids were Georgia and Dixie Stubblefield, cousins of the bride and Linda and Mar jorie Batty, sisters of the groom. They wore pastel ballerina length dresses and carried bou quets of white carnations. Sherrle Gates, cousin of the bride, was flower girl and she was dressed in pink taffeta with chiffon overskirt and carried a nosegay of white carnations. Clinton Batty was best man for his brother and ushers were Jerry and Hank Cupper, broth ers of the bride, Larry Holmes and Lewis Batty, Jr, brother of the groom . Mrs Albert Chan sang, "O Pro mise Me" and the Rev Chan sang "The Lord's Prayer", accompan ied by Mrs Harold Cork. The bride's mother wore an afternoon dress of pink shan tung, the groom's ' mother was dressed in a blue summer suit and they both had corsages of white carnations and pink baby roses. y Around the gymnasium were huge baskets of gladioli, bou quets of sweet peas and candle labra. A reception followed " at the grange hall, which was decor ated with floral bouquets made by Mildred Beardsley. The bride's table was center ed with a four tiered cake, dec orated by the bride's brother, Henry Cupper, Jr. Mrs Wayne Leathers, Kimber ly, aunt of the bride, served the cake and another aunt, Mrs George Stubblefield, poured. Mrs Jack Cavender assisted with the serving. Joanna Beardsley had charge of the guest book and Wayne Leathers, Jr, and Mattie Lou Stubblefield, cousins of the bride had charge of the gifts.
