HOPE LUTHERAN CHURCH Alfalfa Street Worship services 11:00 am. lone P TA Hears Talk on School Plan; Officers Installed By ECHO PALMATEER Robert Abrams, Morrow coun ty district attorney from Hepp ner was the guest speaker at the P-TA meeting at the school cafetorium Wednesday evening, May 14. He gave a talk on school reorganization and the County Unit system and explained them. He was introduced to the group by Bryce Keene chairman of the local school board. Officers and chairman were installed at a very impressive ceremony with Mrs Omar Rietmann, past presi dent, as the installing officer. Mrs Earl McCabe was the Mar shal. A candle ceremony was al so given with Mrs Franklin Ely and Ray Heimbigner, both past presidents of the P-TA assisting. The table was decorated with blue and gold iris and the letters P-TA. Officers installed were, Mrs Wallace Matthews, presi dent; Mrs Norman Nelson, vice president and Mrs Phil Emert, secretary and treasurer. They and the chairman of committees were presented with corsages made by members of the Garden club. Mrs Charles Hudson and Gary Stephenson were presented with a corsage and a bouto nniere by Mrs Norman Nelson in appreciation of the work they had done during the year. Other numbers on the program with Mrs Phil Emert in charge were reports by Kay Sherer on her trip to Girls' State last year and Berl Akers on Beaver Boys State. They were delegates to these sponsored by the American Legion Auxiliary and the Leg ion. Mrs Kenneth Smouse gave two violin solos accompanied by Mrs Lloyd Howton. At the business meeting con ducted by Mrs Matthews, presi dent, the flag salute was given, she gave a reading the com mandments to parents; and thanked the members of the Garden club for making the cor sages. Mrs Franklin Ely thank ed the members of the P-TA for the sorority dinner they gave recently. A health report was read from Mrs Velma Glass, county nurse. Those on the health committee here are Mrs Delbert Emert, Mrs David Baker and Mrs Donald McElligott. Plans were made for the school picnic and potluck dinner to be served at noon, Friday, May 23. Mrs Matthews named the fol lowing committee chairman for next year: Mrs Hershal Town send, program; Mrs Roy Lind strom, social; Mrs Garland Swanson, hospitality; Mrs Echo Palmateer, publicity; Mrs Earl McCabe, membership; Fredrick Martin, legislative; Mrs Lewis Halvorsen, finance; Mrs Donald McElligott, health and Mrs Ves ter Hams, music. Room mothers are Mrs Delmer Crawford, 1st grade; Mrs Jimmie Pettyjohn, 2nd grade; Mrs Ted Palmateer, 3rd grade; Mrs David Baker, 4th grade; Mrs L F Leathers, 6th grade; Mrs Herbert Ekstrom, 7th grade; Mrs Gordon White, 10th grade; Mrs Raymond Lundell, 11th grade; and Mrs Lawrence Jones, 12th grade. Refreshments were served from tables decorated with spring flowers. The hostesses were Mrs Dallas Shockley, Mrs Charles Hudson, Mrs Joe Haus ler, Mrs Gilbert Lujan and Mrs Don Brostrom. Boardman Notes The Tillieum club met last week at the home of Mrs Don Downey. A committee was ap pointed to revise the constitut ion and by-laws as follows: Mrs Ralph Skoubo, Mrs Ronald Black and Mrs Ronald Haas. The club will have a member ship tea May 27 at 8 pm at the home of Mrs Ray Gronquist, with Mrs Zoe Billings as co-hostess. A report on the quilt was giv en by Mrs Downey. Reports were given by Mrs Ralph Skoubo and Mrs Dewey West on their trip to the 43rd state convention in Salem recently. The club was presented an award at the convention for out standing participation in public affairs the past year. Mrs Joe Tatone was elected 3rd vice-president Mr and Mrs Carl Gaede of Gresham were weekend visitors at the home of Mrs Gaede's brother-in-law and sister, Mr and Mrs Bob Miller. Mr and Mrs Glen Carpenter went to La Grande Sunday to visit at the home of Mrs. Car penter's sister, Mrs Esther Em mons. Her mother and sister, Mrs Rosa LaChance and Miss Eva LaChance of Tacoma, Wash, who visited at the Carpenter home last week, uccompanied them Sunday school 9:45 am. Cocktails were served at the home of Mr and Mrs Berl Akers; salad at the home of Mr and Mrs L A McCabe and the main meal at the home of Mr and Mrs Walter Corley with Mrs W G Seehafer, Mrs John Botts and Mrs Ida Coleman serving; the dessert was served at the home of Mr and Mrs Har old Sherer and the party and other refreshments at the home of Mr and Mrs E M Baker. Members of the high school students were entertained at a tea at the school by members of the Girl's League. They were presented with corsages. The The program consisted of, the welcome by Mardine Baker, a reading by Sharon Crabtree and the response by Mrs Leo Crab tree; two record pantomimes by Barbara Baker, Linda Heimbig ner. Mrs Wallace Matthews, Mrs Cleo Drake and Mrs Cecil Thorne left Monday morning for Cor vallis where they will attend the Rebekah Assembly of Oregon. Mrs Drake and Mrs Thorne are delegates from Bunchgrass lodge. At the primary election here last week 220 voted out of 384 registered voters. The members of the Three Links club of the Rebekah lodge held a very successful dinner at their hall on election day. Dale White returned home from the Veteran's hospital in Portland last week where he was a patient for about two months. Mr and Mrs Steven Loy and children of La Grande were re cent visitors at the home of her parents Mr and Mrs Lewis Ball. Mr and Mrs Melvin Brady and children of Arlington spent Sun clay at the Ball home. Mr and Mrs Garland Swanson made a trip to Pendleton Mon day. Mr and Mrs W A Campbell of Camas, Wn were through lone Sunday. Mrs Campbell formerly lived at Morgan and was the daughter of the late Bill Thomas of Morgan. Included in building improve ments during the last week Is a new roof on St William's Cath olic church and one on the Wal ter Roberts home. Mr and Mrs Charles O'Connor and Mrs James Lindsay attend ed the Eastern Central Oregon Association of the Eastern Star in Pendleton Sunday.
