Refreshments were served from a table with a centerpiece of red and white flowers and red cand les. Those pouring were Mrs Floyd Bailey, Mrs Dale Ray, Mrs Walter Roberts and Mrs Fredrick Martin. Those serving punch were Mrs Keith Rea, Mrs Lee Palmer, Mrs Roger Kincaid and Mrs Robert Rietmann. The room was decorated in with tulips giv en by Mrs David Rietmann which were raised on the farm. Others assisting were, Mrs Ella Burgoyne and Mrs Echo Palma teer had charge of the guest book; Mrs Dobyns and Mrs Gor don White the program; Mrs Lloyd Howton, Mrs Ida Coleman, Mrs Omar Rietmann, and Mrs Bryce Keene the refreshments; Mrs Marion Palmer and Mrs Gar ry Tullis, the tables and Mrs Earl McKinney, Mrs Arthur Crawford and Mrs Ed Baker the room arrangement. Mr and Mrs Gordon White and Carl Troedson attended the pro gram at the State prison in Walla Walla Sunday of last week. Mrs Kennetli Smouse enter tained the HEC of Lexington grange at her home, April 24. There were 13 members present. Mrs Fannie Griffith left for Portland Thursday of last week to visit her daughter and family, Mr and Mrs Dwight Haugen. The Haugens are moving to Oswego. Bands Give Concert The lone schools presented their annual spring concert at the cafetorium Thursday even ing, May 1, with Gary Stephen son as director. The program consisted of songs by the High school chor us: Lichtensteiner sung In Ger man; Sugar Time; Oh What a Beautiful Morning; and the Lord's Prayer. The grade school band played Here Comes the Pa rade; Cow Boy Legend; Mexican Folk Dance and the Chalenger. The High school band played Steel King; Sunset Trail over ture; Londonderry Air; Gypsy Guitars; Sail Along Silvery Moon; The Walk; and Washing ton Post. Refreshments were ser ved afterwards by Mrs Paul Pettyjohn, Mrs Lawrence Jones, Mrs Lloyd Rice, Mrs Lloyd Mor gan, and Mrs Berl Akers. Other mothers helped furnish the re- freshments. Mrs Stephenson of Salem and .Mrs Wallace Mat thews poured and Grace McCabe served punch. The band members presented Mr Stephenson with a baton with his name on it in appreciation of the work done for them during his term in tne schools. Rev and Mrs Charles Wilkes are the parents of a daughter Camilyn Kay, born April 28 at the Pioneer Memorial hospital. Weight 7 lb and 4 oz. Mrs Walter Beech of Klrkland, Wash ana Mrs R D Wilkes of Nampa, Ida ho are the grandparents. Mrs James Barnett returned home recently from the Pioneer Memorial hospital where she underwent surgery. Mrs Milton Morgan broke a bone in her foot one day last wppk when she stepped In a hole in her yard. Mrs Walter Corley entertain ed the Bridge club at her home Friday evening of last week. May 16 Election Day with vot ing at the city hall 8 am to 8 pm. The members of the Rebekah lodge will serve dinner at noon at their hall and supper in the evening. May 18 Baccalaureate sermon at the lone Community church at 7:30 pm, May 22 Commencement at the school at 8 pm. The extension unit meeting was held at the home of Mrs Roger Kincaid Thursday after noon of last week with Mrs Jimmy Pettyjohn and Mrs Ed Baker as leaders. Their subject was house plants. An exchange of plants was held. Mrs Keith Rea and Mrs Howard Crowell served refreshments. The follow ing officers were installed for next year by Mrs Norman Nel son: Mrs Jimmy Pettyjohn, chair man; Mrs Elmer Holtz, vice chairman and Mrs Ed Baker sec retary and treasurer. This is the last meeting of the year. Mr and Mrs Wallace Mat, thews Mrs Ernest Heliker, Mrs Mary Swanson, Mrs Omar Riet mann and Mrs Echo Palmateer made a trip to Portland Sunday where they attended the recept ion at the Odd Fellows home. They enjoyed a program and heard talks from the state of ficers.and made a tour of the home. While in Portland they visited Montgomery Ward's Out door Living Center where Fayne Ely is employed and also saw the Penguins at Peninsula park, Arnie Hedman of Athena has been elected to teach band, 9th grade math and 9th grade sci ence in the lone schools for next year. He will take the place of Gary Stephenson who has re signed. Mrs Donald Peterson enter tained at a pinochle party at their home Saturday evening. Those receiving prizes were, Mr and Mrs Delmer Crawford, high, Mrs Bill Rietmann and Louis Carlson, low and Mrs Robert Rietmann the door prize. Those from here who took part in the piano recital presented by Mrs Jesse Turner in Heppner Sunday were, Karen and Cheryle Lundell, Stephen and Susan Lindstrom, Marjorie and Terry O'Connor and Linda Hembigner. '.1 - 4MP to HEPPNER GAZETTE-TIMES, Thursday, May 8, 1958 -9 Students home from EOCE at La Grande were Dick Ekstrom, Dick Sherer, Robert Hubbard, Larry Rietmann and Bill Salter. The Juniors of the American Legion Auxiliary gave a lunch eon in honor of their mothers at the Legion hall Saturday at 12:30 pm assisted by the leader, Mrs Earl McCabe. There were 24 present. Pamela McCabe gave the welcome and grace. Teresa Tucker, Marlene Crawford and Janet Palmateer greeted the mothers. Those serving the lun cheon were Sherry Corley, Fran ces McLeod, Elaine Gaarsland, Linda Hams and Arleta McCabe. Gregory Jacobs, son of Mr and Mrs Walter Jacobs, cut his fing er in the car door Saturday. He was taken to a physician in Heppner and 11 stitches were re quired to close the cuts. Bunchgrass gave $3 to the can cer fund and $5 to Red Cross at a meeting Thursday evening of last week. Mrs Mary Emert left this week for Tennessee to visit her son, Beecher Emert. Mr and Mrs Phil Emert took her mother, Mrs Faith Follet back to her home in Hermiston Saturday. She visited here for a few days last week.
