Election will be held at the business meeting in May. Saturday, June 14 has been set for the date of the annual installation banquet with Miss Bernardine Batters of Vancouv er, Washington as the installing officer. Mrs E E Gonty told of some of the highlights of her trip to Great Falls, Montana to attend the regional conference earlier 1 this month. Bridge Club Meets At Gribble Home ' Mr and Mrs Lowell Gribble were hosts to their Duplicate bridge club Sunday evening. Playing, in addition to Mr and Mrs Gribble, were Mr and Mrs Tom Wilson, Mr and Mrs Gordon Pratt, Mr and Mrs Richard Mea dor, Mr and Mrs Clinton Mc Quarrie, Mr and Mrs Wallace Wolff, Mr and Mrs L E Dick Jr, Mrs La Verne Van Marter Jr, and Mrs Allen Case. The couple holding high score was Mrs Wolff and Mrs Mc Quarrie, second high Mrs Grib ble and Mr Pratt. An addenda was given her by members of the lodge and they presented her with a gift. Other numbers on the program, with Mrs Cleo Drake in charge, were a piano solo, Dizzy Fing ers by Karen Lundell; songs, Getting to Know You and Caro lina in the Morning by Jean Martin, Dalene McDonald, Lona White, Dianne Pettyjohn and Linda Halvorsen; instrumental music, Jim Dandy by Ellis Ball, John Swanson and Jack Crum, directed by Gary Stephenson and accompanied by Karen Lundell; a welcome by Deneice and Ber neice Matthews, twin daughters of Mr and Mrs Matthews. Mrs Matthews gave a talk thanking the members for all that they had done for her. Mrs Ernest Heliker, noble grand of the lone lodge, also gave a talk and several visitors were pres ent from Hardman and Lexing ton. Refreshments were served from a table with a centerpiece of pink and white spring flow ers and pink candles. Mrs E R Lundell, Mrs Mary Swanson, Mrs Heliker and Mrs Adon Hamlett poured and Mrs David Rietmann served the punch. Mrs Sam Esteb had charge of the guest book and Mrs Berl Akers and Mrs Echo Palmateer had charge of the gift table, which had a centerpiece of Lily of the Valley. The rooms were decorated in spring flow ers. Mrs Omar Rietmann was gen eral chairman for the reception; the program committee was Mrs Drake, Mrs Gordon White and Mrs Paul Pettyjohn; refresh ment committee, Mrs Harvey Ring, Mrs Wate Crawford, Mrs Cecil Thome and Mrs Lloyd Mor gan; hospitality, Mrs Ernest Hel iker, Mrs Adon Hamlett and Mrs Matthews; name cards, Mrs Ar villa Swanson and the addenda Mrs David Rietmann and Mrs Omar Rietmann. Mrs Turner Hostess For Bridge Club The Thursday Dup 1 1 c a t e bridge club met last week at the home of Mrs Frank W Turn er. Playing were Mrs Loyal Park er, Mrs Harlan McCurdy Sr, Mrs Clarence Rosewall, Mrs Ted Smith, Mrs Jos J Nys, Mrs Archie D McMurdo, Mrs Fred Parrish and the hostess. High team was composed of Mrs Parker, Mrs McMurdo, Mrs McMurdy and Mrs Turner. April Birthdays Observed At Parties Mr and Mrs Alex Thompson entertained recently in honor of the birthdays of their son, Brian and their daughter Lindy. For Brian's seventh birthday there was a weiner and marsh mellow roast on Skinner Creek. Following t h e refreshments, there was an Easter Egg hunt and a hike. Com H -Mr Christian Church Has Father-Son Banquet Fifty-four fathers and sons en joyed the annual father and son banuet at the Christian church Monday evening. The men of the congregation brought their sons or other sons as guests. ' The principal speaker of the evening was Rev Paul Moore, pastor of the Christian church of Athena and Father of the year for Umatilla county. Mr Moore is the father of seven sons and a grandfather, for the first time, this year. His subject was camp life and camp work for the young people, and he in cluded a humorous reading in his talk. Rev Charles Knox, pastor of the Heppner Christian church led the meeting and Joe Stew art was master of ceremonies for the banquet. The Women's Guild of the Christian church served the food. Party Given For Michael Smith On Eighth Birthday Mr and Mrs Glenn W Smith complimented their son Michael on his eighth birthday Sunday, April 2o, with a party n his honor at thelr home Games were played, refresh ments were served and the fol lowing boys were Michael's guests at the theater, Larry Richmond, John Van Winkle, Gary Dowen, Bobby Dobbs, Kit Anderson and Frankie Unrein. Stewart Gribble Has 15th Birthday Party Stewart Gribble celebrated' his 15th birthday Tuesday even ing with a dancing party at the home of his parents, Mr and Mrs Lowell Gribble. Guests were Nancy Moyer, Doris Morris, Fern Albert, Mar lene Griffin, Mary Slocum, Ron nie Gray, Neal Penland, Dan Brosnan, Larry Tibbies, Rodney Flug and the host. Mr and Mrs Stanley Boyer. Mr and Mrs Bub Holmes and Mr and Mrs Bob Leslie spent two days at The Dalles on business. Boyd Hinton drove his uncle Henry Durst to Heppner Tuesday for a medical checkup. Maynard Hamilton, Mrs Rho Bleakman and Mr and Mrs Lee Slocum drove to Hctnmer Tues- I day on business. Mrs Edith Mus- grave went as far as Hardman with them where she visited her father and sister, the Stev ens. Verne McCarty came in Thurs day from Heppner and reported his wife was getting along pretty well after surgery. He took her two sons Harold and Virgil Rey nolds to see her. Harold Lippert drove to Kin zua Thursday where he got a load of lumber for Rubin Patzer. Everett Howell of Spray was here Wednesday checking over his ranch on Wall Creek. Mr and Mrs H R Cummings of Wallula, Wn were here visiting her brother Verne McCarty and his wife at the hospital in Hepp ner. Mr and Mrs Gus Peterson and sons and her mother Louise Scott drove to Pendleton Friday on business. Mrs Edith Musgrave came down Friday morning and took Mr and Mrs Lee Slocum to the ranch for the day. Mr and Mrs Jim Croker and son, and Henry Martin drove to Pendleton Sunday to get sup plies for Jim's repair shop. Mr and Mrs H W Scott, Mr and Mrs Tony Hutchinson, Mr and Mrs Mike Hutchinson and Mr and Mrs Bob Neel were in Spray Sunday afternoon. Graduation day here will be May 21. There will be four sen iors and 11 from the 8th grade. Iffie Stewart of John Day and George Stirritt returned home from Portland where he went to an eye doctor.
