School Planners Meet at Boardman

one-half years, has resigned and
will leave here this week. She
will go from here to Seattle,
Wash t0 visit her mother, Mrs
Mattie Scott, before taking up
further church work.
Mr and Mrs Merrill Shaw,
Village missionaries from Hunt
ington, Ind. have arrived to fill
the pulpit at the church. They
formerly had charge of a church
in Marion, Ind.
The Rev William Snyder, pas
tor of the Umatilla Presbyter
ian church, was guest speaker
at Community church Sunday
night, and conducted commun
ion services.
Charlie Nickerson was called
to Boise, Idaho last week by the
death of his son, Willard Nick
erson, who died there Apr 14
from a heart attack. His surviv
ors besides his father include
two sisters, Mrs Esther Knight
of Portland, Mrs Robert Hilder
of San Bernardino, Calif, and a
brother, Charlie Nickerson, Jr of
Missouri. Funeral services were
held Apr 19 in Boise.
Mr and Mrs Zeal Gillespie
went to Fort Lewis Wash Sun
day to visit their son, Pfc Don
ald Gillespie, at the Madigan
General hospital there, to be
gone until Tuesday.
Mr and Mrs Joe Crouch and
children went to The Dalles Sun
day to visit Crouch's mother, Mrs
Clara Crouch.

Lex Grade School
Awards Given
- On Saturday night the grade
school held its annual party at
which time students were given
their athletic awards. This was
in the form of a dance, held at
the gym. Later refreshments
were enjoyed in the cafeteria
Some of the parents in charge

ita Martin and Eileen Padberg.

Palmer were given awards for
their fine job at this time also.
The speech festival ribbons were
given this night as they had not
been presented earlier and the

kle, Martha Doherty, Leora Mae
VanWinkle, Tony Doherty, Dan
Wardwell and Kirk Mathews.
The ladies prepared hamburgers
with all the trimmings which
the children greatly enjoyed.

itors on Monday.

itors this week.
Mr and Mrs George Irvin are
spending some time in Portland
where Mrs Irvin is receiving
medical attention.

Mrs Earl Briggs had on dis
play a white orchid plant in
bloom, which was won as a door
prize by the late Mrs Ed Kunze
at the Blue Mountain district
convention held in Umatilla in
1956.
Guests at the meeting were

Wash, house guest at the Rands
home, and Mrs Ray Brown.
The next meeting will be at
the home of Mrs Arthur Allen
May 19, with Mrs Tim Rippee
as co-hostess.
