Stafford Hansell of Athena, State representative from Uma tilla County, was the guest speaker at the P-TA meeting: Wednesday evening April 9. He explained the Oregon-California land problem and the basic school law distribution. He was accompanied by Mrs Hansell. Other numbers on the program, conducted by Mrs Phil Emert, were reading from three pupils who were contestants at the speech festival recently at Irr igon, Trova Rigby gave a read ing on the Wisdom of Solomon; Judy Sherer gave a reading, Many Moons; and Evelyn Jep sen one on Bringing Up the Child Spiritually. A pantomime was given by Darlene McDon ald, Linda Halvorsen and Dianna Pettyjohn. At the business meet ing conducted by Mrs Wallace Matthews, president, the flag salute was given, the benedict ion was eiven bv Rev Flovd I Bailey; for the room count the 7tn erade mothers and the 7th and 8th Erade fathers received the prize. Delegates will go from here to the Womens fel lowship group meeting at Mil ton Freewa ter April 21. The Mother-Daughter tea will be held at the Community church May 3 from 2:30 to 4:3n nm. Mrs Bailey eave a reading on planting. There were 20 mem bers present. Mrs Roy Lindstrom received the door prize. The Garden club met at the Tuesday afternoon, April 8 with Mrs Fredrick Martin as co-host. ess. At the business meeting led by Mrs William Rawlins, presi dent, it was decided to hold a plant, food and pie and coffee sale May 10 at the Rebekah hall at 1 pm. The Blue Mountain dis trict convention will be held Ap ril 22 at Columbia grange hall near Hermiston. Any member wishing to go may contact Mrs Rawlins. Mrs Garland Swanson, president of the Hospital Auxil iary of the Pioneer Memorial hospital eave a talk of the work of the Auxiliary at the hospital. She stated that the patients in the down stairs department en- joyed books, and maeazines and visitors, there is need for men ding and patching of garments and sheets and manv other things. Mrs Etta Huston gave a talk on the Garden club pre menant Foundation in St Louis. Mrs Rawlins received the door prize. Mrs Elbe Akers gave Tin nia seeds to the members. The Topic club meeting was held at the home of Mrs Floyd Bailey Friday afternoon. April 11 with Mrs Charles O'Connor as co-hostess. Mrs O'Connor re viewed the book. The White Witch by Goudge. At the busi ness meeting conducted by Mrs Dixon Smith, a report was giv en on the dinner served recently by the club. Cards of thanks were sent to Phil Blakney, Mrs Harvev Ring, the Hieh school Girls League members, Mrs Mil ton Morgan and Mrs Raymond Lundell in assisting with the dinner. Mr and Mrs Milton Morgan made a trip to Portland one day last week. Larry Rietmann, stu dent at EOCE spent the week end with his parents, Mr and Mrs Omar Rietmann. He played in the orchestra at the Lexing ton Junior-Snior prom Saturday evening. Joe Gaarsland returned home from Battle Lake, Minn Sunday whnrn he attended the funeral or his sister, Mrs Agnes Kim- wald. He made the trip by bus. Miss Rubv Ann Rietmann and Dean Rohde of Pendleton were weekend guests at the Victor Rietmann home. A stork shower was given in honor of Mrs Duane Baker of Palo Alto, Calif at the home of Mrs Lewis Halvorsen Monday af ternoon, April 7. As Mrs Baker was not present, Mrs E M Baker and Miss Mardine Baker hftd charge of the gifts and sent them to her. Mrs Joe Hausler gave a party Monday morning at her home in honor of her daughter, Car ol's 4th birthday. Other children present were Anita and Cvnthia Crawford, Cathy and Terry Can non, Pat and Beckv ShorkW Janette and Meg Lujan, Debbie and David McLeod, Lisa Mc Cabe, Christine Lindstrom, Ste phen McLeod and Alan, Jimmie and Patti Hudson. Games were played and refreshments were served. Ernest Heliker spent a couple of days last week with friends in Monument.
