Turkey production Is now already lnte crated. With this new type- of farming evident In Morrow coun . ... vantages and disadvantges of the new system. Don Robinson of the Kirk and Robinson Hereford Ranch has been quite busy in preparing an imals and participating in here ford shows and sales recently, the Blue Tag sale at Pendleton, the Columbia Empire sale at Yakima and this week at the Oregon Polled sale at Redmond Last week at the Columbia Em pire sale he received $1250. for a bull consigned with the aver age for the sale being $831 for bulls and $537 for heifers. Two heifers were sold by Don, one for $575; another for $500. This week he will consign one bull and two heifers at the Redmond show and sale which will be held March 14. Bamett Hereford Ranch at Boardman will con sign seven bulls and one female to this sale. Several weeks ago we announ ced In this column that appli cations were being received from persons who might be interest ed in participating in one of the j series of sheep shearing schools being held throughout the state. I Word came this week that the demand was so great for these schools that an additional one is being planned for early April : to be held at Hermiston. Those who attended these sheep shear ing schools in the past have gained much from them. If you are interested in attending the Hermiston sheep shearing school contact this office at once. Only 16 persons can be accomodated at one school and the quota will be filled on a first come-first serve basis. Considerable interest is being shown in Morrow county as well as other counties throughout the state in hog production. The in terest is brought about through) the rapidly increasing surplusses of feed grains and the fact that 70 of the pork consumed In Oregon is shipped in from the midwest. Unlike other livestock prices the Portland hog market is above other major hog mark ets in the United States. While a number of Morrow county farm ers are still in the talking stage, one operation got underway last week with the purchase of 42 1 bred gilts. These gilts were pur- chased by Wilkinson and Rugg who intend to build up their breeding herd as fast as possl-! ble and still maintain top breed-! ing stock. The gilts purchased from Federated Livestock com-j pany were selected from litters' of ten or more and with a high j rate of gain. Those who have been attempting to get in the hog business found that breed ing stock is almost impossible to obtain. Calfhood vaccination for Bruc ellosis increased considerably in 1957 in Morrow county. This rec ommended practice has increased slowly here until this past year. In 1956, 665 were vaccinated com pared to 2724 during 1957. Live stock growers are vaccinating all , of their heifers rather than just those being kept for replace-1 iiicius xuiuuig mat uujtico aic ANGUS Bull Sale MARCH 26 60 Top Bulls Baker, Oregon For Catalog Write Bull Sale Committee, Box 903, Baker.
