United States cattle imports in
1957 total 725,000 head. They
were divided about evenly be
tween Mexico and Canada. The
United States imported about
313,000 head of cattle from Mex
ico during the year. This was
221 more than imports in 1956.
Heavy demand for stocker and
feeder cattle throughout the
Southwest encouraged the north

To Start in March
A comprehensive program for

Auditors already are available
for such purposes at the com

and at the Portland branch of

be announced locally by the com

j Taxpayers presently seeking
assistance at the commission of
fices in Salem and Portland are
finding little or no delay, he said
'As the deadline nears, the wait'
ing lines will grow, necessitat
ing delays in may cases, it was
pointed out.
Taxpayers who do not need as
sistance will also find it advan
tageous to file early, Horn em
phasized. By taking sufficient
I time in preparation, the taxpay
er can avoid mistakes and omiss
ions which might result in a pen
alty or interest charge. Tax Com
mission auditors said that late
filers make far more mistakes.
In addition, the "early bird"
taxpayer who is entitled to a re
fund on tax withheld from his
wages in 1957 will get the refund
sooner. Refund returns are hand
; led by the tax commission in the
order they are received, conce
'quently the sooner a taxpayer
files, the sooner he will get a
refund. The first refund check
j this year was issued February 14,
'and processing of other returns
Is on schedule, Horn said.

Cookies are always popular, but sometimes they do not carry
their full share of protective nutrients. The molasses cookieo shown
here have a sweet taffy flavor loved by children, and they also
have plus food values from the unBulphured molasses, dried fruit,
cereal and milk ingredients.
The crinkly topped cookies, called the Big Four, take their name
from the four basic food groups suggested by the U.S. Department
of Agriculture a needed daily. These four food groups include
fruit and vegetables; meat, poultry, fish and eggs; milk; bread and
cereals. After getting foods from these basic groups daily, one
supplements the diet with sweets and fats.
