the Legislature to justify the

The 20 per cent refund was the
result of the stalemate in the
Senate of 15 Democrats and 15
Republicans. The Democrats did
not want to refund as much as
the 20 per cent. The 15 Repub
licans wanted to give back more
and set their mark for a 30 per
cent refund. The 15 Democrats,
led by Governor Holmes held for
10 per cent. The 20 per cent re
fund was a compromise.
OREGON JOB SERVICE
Graduates of 160 Oregon high
schools last year used the job
testing, ' counseling and place
ment facilities of the State Em
ployment Service. That amounts
to two-thirds of the high schools.
The total is 10 per cent greater
than in 1956.
