SA3IE HAWKINS DANCE EZLD SATURDAY Most of the large group of Heppner high school students (which assembled In the gymnasi um Saturday night for the annual jtedle Hawkins dance were ap propriately clad in hillbilly garb, frizes for the best costumes went to Eddie Groshens and Elaine tiird. Refreshments of punch and pOokies were served during the vening. Rev. and Mrs. Zier Complimented Friday With Baby Shower Families of the Lutheran church congregation gathered at the church parlors Friday even ing for a cradle shower compli menting Rev. and Mrs. Merlin Zier. There were about 50 members of the congregation present at the meeting which took the place of the regular monthly family night of the Lutheran church. The evening was devoted to games, hightlight of which was the identification of baby pict ures of church members, with Miss Judy Schmidt guessing the largest number correctly. Another source of much merriment was the assignment of Rev. Zier to the task of dressing baby David Schmidt. Refreshments and op ening of gifts followed the games. The committee in charge of the shower was composed of Mr. and Mrs. Harlan McCurdy Jr., Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Holtz of lone, Mr. and' Mrs. Orville Mathen-y and Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Schmidt. o 69th Anniversary Observed by Rebekahs Sans Souci Rebekah lodge held a special potluck dinner Wednes day evening in observance of the 69th anniversary of the lodge, with about 45 Rebekahs, Oddfel lows and their families attending. Corsages were given to pioneer Rebekah members a n d a brief history of the lodge was given. Gammell celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary recently ot an open house held at Veneta, near Eugene. The couple formerly resided in Morrow county. (Eugene Register-Guard Photo) 50th Anniversary Celebrated Recently By Arthur Gammells Mr. and Mrs. Arthur W. Gam mell celebrated their 50th wed ding anniversary recently with a family dinner and open, house at the Central Grange hall at Veneta, Ore., near Eugene. The turkey dinner was served at noon by members of the grange and the Willing Workers club. A short program was enjoyed during the afternoon when Cent ral grange put on a mock wed ding. Karl Gardner sang several numbers accompanied by Mrs. Cliff Poole and Bob Stevens play ed violin selections accompanied by Mrs. Allen Lowe. The wedding cake baked by Mrs. John DeMoss, was on the same glass stand used 50 years ago for their wedding cake and it was decorated in gold and trim med with a sugar rose which had also been on the wedding cake 50 years ago. On the tables were crocheted tablecovers made by Mrs. Harold Stevens. Mrs. Paul Gammell cut the cake, Mrs. Harold Stevens and Mrs. John DeMoss served the ice cream, Mrs. Ray Chandler served the punch and Mrs. Ben Camp bell poured. The occasion also honored Mr. Gammell's mother, Mrs. Emma Gammell of Salem, who was 96 years old in October. Seven friends who had attend ed the wedding 50 years ago were also present. Over 100 friends of the hon ored couple signed the guest book which was in charge of Miss Ida Fay Gammell and Miss Merry Pearson. All of the Gammell's children were present, 20 grandchildren anl seven great-grandchildren. One grandson was unable to at tend. Out of town guests were Mrs. Emma Gammell, Salem; Mr. and Mrs. Paul Gammell, Salem; Mr. and Mrs. James Gammell and Dick, Salem; Mr. and Mrs. Roy Tyler, Albany; Mr. and Mrs. Har old Hill and family, Coos Bay; Mr. and Mrs. Harold Cox and Mr. and Mrs. Fred Harris, Cottage Grove; Mr. and Mrs. Frank Bow ers, Mr. and Mrs. "Lawrence Brown, Mrs. Edna Whitney and Jon, Mrs. Gertie Rankin and Mrs. Myrtle Ham, all of Eugene; Mr. and Mrs. Harold Storey, Junction City and Bill Living, Lavena, California. Tibbies was hostess for the Whats Trumps bridge club last Wednesday afternoon. Those present were Mrs. Earl Blake, Mrs. Wallace Wolff, Mrs. Lowell Gribble, Mrs. P. W. Ma honey, Mrs. Raymond Ferguson, Mrs. James Thomson, Mrs. Gene Ferguson and Mrs. Robert Pen land. Mrs. Gene Ferguson held high score, Mrs. Wolff was second and Mrs. Thomson, low. It was decided to have the Christmas party at the next meet ing, December 4, which will be at the home of Mrs. Tom Wilson. Gift From England Received Here By Soroptimist Club Each Soportimist club member made a list of all the things for which she was thankful, at their meeting Thursday at O' Donnell's, and the list of Miss Leta Humphreys was voted the best written. Mrs. Elaine George read a let ter from a member of the Soropt imist International of Tamworth, England and opened a package sent to the club. It was a table cloth with all the names of the Tamworth members written and embroidered on it. It will be used for parties and special occasions. It was announced that the club was again preparing and help ing serve the food for the Elks annual teenage party on Friday evening, November 29. Mrs. Floyd Adams, project chairman, reported htat another 100 Red Emperor tulip bulbs had been planted in the tulip bed at the city parking making over 300 bulbs planted there by the club. Janice Beamer was introduced as the senior girl visiting the club this week. About 20 members were present and secret pals of the past year were revealed with gifts being exchanged. A short business meeting was held and officers elected with Mrs. Altha Kirk the new presid ent; Mrs. Mary McMiirtry vice president and Mrs. Ruth Berg strom, secretary . Because of so much illness it was decided to postpone the ent ertaining of the district N. G.'s until a more favorable time.
