Heppner Gazette Times, Thursday, August 1, J957 Page 3 Wheat Truck and Train Tangle Near Morgan By Echo Palmateer Henry Buschke and his two sons had a narrow escape Wed nesday evening of last week at Morgan. They were returning to the Ed Buschke home from the Morgan elevator with a grain truck. As they were crossing the railroad track the train was ap proaching. Mr. Buschke put the truck in reverse but the front part of the truck was struck by the train. He received a broken finger but otherwise he nor the boys were not hurt. The Three Links club of Bunch grass Rebekah lodge met at the home of Mrs. Charles O'Connor Friday afternoon July 26. After the business meeting conducted by Mrs. Wate Crawford, presid ent, refreshments were served. Mrs. Anna Lindstrom and Mrs. Paul Pettyjohn received the door prizes. Tommy Philbrick of Condon visited at the home of his uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Boyce last week. The Herman Blettells have moved to the Harley Anderson .ranch. Be Careful . . . & Be Insured! Mrs. Pete Cannon received high prize; Mrs Ray Boyce second high and Mrs. Walter Jacobs, low. Mr. and Mrs. Rodney Crawford of Helix are the parents of a son, Thomas Michael, born in Pendle ton July 19. Weight 5 lbs. and 7 oz. Mr. and Mrs. Vernice Craw ford of Helix and Mr. and Mrs. Tom Chapman of Pilot Rock are the grandparents. Mr. and Mrs. Wate Crawford of lone, Frank Chapman of Pendleton and Mrs. Minnie Groomo of Maiden, Wash, are the great-grandparents. Mrs C. E. Brenner, Mrs. Harold Snider and Mrs. Pat Doherty made a trip to Pendleton Tues day of last week. Mr. and Mrs. E. T. Land of Port Orchard, Wash, were recent visit ors at the William Bergstrom home. Mrs. Land and Mrs. Berg strom are sisters. Miss Ester Eck berg of Portland is visiting the Bergstroms now. Visitors last week at the Earl McCabe home were Mr. and Mrs. Emmett Berry and family of Fresno, Calif, and Franklin Berry of Arcadia, Calif. Mr. and Mrs. Louis Wortendyke of British Columbia, Canada are visiting at the James Lindsay home. They are cousins of Mrs. Lindsay. Mrs. Roland Bergstrom gave a coffee party at her home Thurs day of last week in honor of Mrs. Beulah .Lundell. The guests were friends and neighbors of Mrs. Lundell in the Gooseberry com munity. Those coming from a distance were Mrs. Ray Drake and Mrs. Lee Scrivener of Hepp ner, Mrs. Robert Hope and child ren of Eugene and Mrs. Cecelia McElligott of Portland. John K. Honey and David Wil liams of Portland were weekend guests at the A. E. Stefani home Recent guests at the Stefani home were Mr. and Mrs. John Stefani and Mr. and Mrs. Dick Reynolds of Canby. Gene Heliker of Lexington has been visiting at the Ernest Hel iker and the Donald Heliker homes Members of the Arnica club and their families and friends enjoyed a swimming party at the swim ming pool Sunday evening. This was followed by a welner roast and picnic dinner at the city park. Petteys, Mrs. Walter Roberts, Joel Engle man, Johan Troedson, Carl Troed son, Mr. and Mrs. Clcll Rea and children and Fred Ely Mr. Elyj received the first prize given at the picnic. Mrs. Bert Mason of Portland received the second prize, : Mrs. Franklin Ely who is at-j tending school in Portland, spent the weekend at her home. Loren Hale of Tangent was a visitor here last week. His daugh ter and her husband, Mr. and Mrs. Cole Leavengood of Sheld on, Nev. were, aso, here for a short time. Lt. LeRoy Brenner, who has been spending his leave with his parents Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Bren ner, left Tuesday for his Air Force base in Raleigh. North Carolina. Mr. and Mrs. John Eubanks and daughter, Sandra, spent Sun day in Portland. They brought Susan Hummel of Beaverton home with them to visit for a while. Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Kemlinger of Boathell, Wash, spent Wed nesday and Thursday of last week at the L. A. McCabe home. Mrs. Remlinger was the former Irene Anders and taught in the lone high school in 1929-1930. Mrs. Eldon Tucker and son, David Eldon, returned home from Pioneer Memorial hospital Sun day. Mary Evelyn Tucker of Heppner has been staying at fhe Tucker home for the past week. She returned home Sunday. Mrs. Corliss McLeod is visiting relatives in Ridgefield, Wash. Harvest in the Morgan com munity and north of lone is near ing completion but it is in full swing south of lone. Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Horton left for their home in Dallas Friday of last week after spending a few weeks with their daughter and family, Mr. and Mrs. Fredrick Martin. The Hortons will visit their son, Lester Horton at Rose burg, who has just returned from Valley Forge, Pa., where he was a leader of the Boy Scout Jamb oree. His son, Jon, and his neph ew, John Todd were delegates to the Jamboree." Mrs. William Rawlins and Mrs. Etta Huston entertained the pro gram committee of the garden club at a luncheon at their home Wednesday of last week. Others present on the conimitttee were Mrs. Omar Rietmann and Mrs. O. L. Lundell. The executive committee will meet at the Rawl ins home Tuesday of this week. It consists of Mrs. Edith Nicho son, Mrs. Walter Dobyns, Mrs. Phil Emert, Mrs. Fredrick Martin and Mrs Rawlins. Kenneth Lundell of Oakland, Calif, is visiting his parents, Mr. and Mrs. O. L. Lundell. Mr. and Mrs. Donald Ramsey of Portland spent the weekend with relatives here. They took their mother, Mrs. Elmo McMillan of Salem, back with them. Mrs. McMillan has been visiting her mother, Mrs. Mary Swanson for some time. Mrs. Adon Hamlett returned home from Portland last week. She was a patient in the Good Samaritan hospital there. Phil Emert Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. Thil Emert Sr., returned home from the Pioneer Memorial hospital Saturday where he was a patient following major surg ery. Rudy Bergstron, son of Mr. and Mrs. William Bergstrom was a patient in the Pioneer Memorial hospital last week with tonsilltis. He returned home Saturday. Week guests at the Lloyd How ton home were Mr. and Mrs. Don Brostrom and son, Tracy, of Mon mouth, Mr. and Mrs. Merl Bum garner and son, Jimmie of Spo kane, Mr. and Mrs Gail Howton and family of Springfield. Sun day guests at the Howton home were Mr. and Mrs. Harry Tenne son and family of Seattle, Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Maier and fam ily, Mr. and Mrs. John Shimek, all of Lind, Wash., Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Schrader and family of Roseburg. Clint Agee of Roseburg is spending the week there.
