Mr. and Mrs. Leo Crabtree returned home from Salem Fri day of last week. Mrs. Crabtree was a patient in a hospital in Salem where she underwent surgery. Mrs. John Voorhees and daugh ters of Portland are visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Wate Crawford and other relatives. Mrs. Ray Turner and sons of Pendleton visited her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Cleo Drake last week. Mrs. Ernest McCabe entertain ed the bridge club Friday even ing June 21. Those receiving prizes were Mrs. Walter Jacobs, high; Mrs. Robert DeSpain, sec ond high; and Mrs. Ray Boyce, low. Guests were Mrs. La Verne Van Marter and Mrs. James Mallon of Heppner. Mr. and Mrs. E. W. Bristow spent the weekend in Portland. They brought their grandson, Keven Bristow, home with them to visit here for a while. Main St Heppner Mason's annual potluck dinner and strawberry feed at their hall Sunday. The Masons attended the j Community church in a body Sunday morning. Mr. and Mrs. Carl Bergstrom reports that their son, Norman Bergstrom, has resigned from the Echo high school where he has been coach for the past 8 years and has accepted a position as principal of Brookings high school for the coming year. He is a lieutenant in the naval re serve and a member of the elect ronics division. Mr. and Mrs. Bergstrom and daughters, Donna and Diane, plan to move to Brookings about August 15. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Bailey and sons Michael and Bill, and Dav id Bailey of Hemit. Calif., visited their parents, Rev. and Mrs. Floyd S. Bailey last week. David Bailey just graduated from Riv erside junior college in Cali fornia. Gary Brenner of Portland spent a few days last week with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Bren Iner. He was accompanied by I Mel Fox and Gary Coats of Port land. 1 Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Holtz and daughter, Carol, were Portland visitors last week. They took her sister, Miss Anna Jepsen, back to the Emanuel hospital where she is a nurse. John Swanson who has been ill in the Pioneer Memorial hos pital, returned home last week. Patti Jean Holt of Butter Creek spent a few days last week with her uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Ted Palmateer. Crums Given Shower A shower was given in honor of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Crum and family at the Legion hall Thurs day evening June 20. They re cently lost their home and all the household goods in a fire. They received many useful and lovely gifts. The hostesses were Irs. Elbe Akers, Mrs. Berl Akers, Mrs. hart McCabe, Mrs. Lloyd Morgan, Mrs. Alfred Nelson, Mrs. Clell Rea, Mrs. E. M. Baker, Mrs. Charles Wilkes, Mrs. John Hat field, Mrs. David Rietmann, and Mrs. Lloyd Howton. Louise Botts assisted about the room. Seventeen members of Bunch grass Rebekah lodge visited Mist letoe Rebekah lodge in Hardman Tuesday afternoon June 18 and took the traveling Bible to them. They presented it to the Hard man noble grand, Mrs. Tom Fra ters, with a very impressive cere mony. Those taking part in the presentation ceremony were Mrs. Wallace Matthews, Mrs. Ernest Heliker, Mrs. Clell Rea, Mrs. David Rietman, Mrs. Paul Petty John, Mrs. E. R. Lundell, Mrs. David Rietmann, Mrs. Mary Swanson, Mrs. Cleo Drake the pianist. Refreshments were ser ved after the meeting. Linda Hoover of Pendleton has been visiting her uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. E. M. Baker. Albert Lindstrom who was re cently injured in a tractor acci dent, returned last week from the St. Anthony hospital In Pendleton. Miss Dorothy Dobyns left by train Monday evening for Fron tier, Wyo where she will visit the McAllister family. Mr. and Mrs. Walter Dobyns returned home from Portland last week. Mr. and Mis. Arthur Crawford returned home Monday from a fishing trip through Central Ore gon. Mr. and Mrs. Lee Marcum of Portland were recent visitors at the home of their daughter and family, Mr. and Mrs. Roland Bergstrom. Mrs. Wallace Matthews andj daughters are visiting relatives I in Roseburg. Mrs. Gordon White spent last week in Portland. Mr. and Mrs. Rodney Crawford Jr. and daughters spent the week end with her mother, Mrs. Ida Coleman. Their daughter, Patti, visited there last week. Gaylord Salter was a patient in Pioneer Memorial hospital last week. A lawn party was held Fath ers Day June 16 at the Arthur Dalzell home and also in hon or of Mrs. Wallace Gaarsland's birthday. Those present were, Mr. and Mrs. Dalzell, Mrs. Gaars land, Mrs. Clyde Crawford and sons, Mrs. Edith McClintock and Bill McClintock. Harold Holtz and Rollo Craw ford attended the wedding of Miss Rikka Transgrud of Herm iston and Paul Tews of HeDDner in Kindred, North Dakota Sat urday, June 22. Mr. and Mrs. Don White and sons Melvin and Kenneth, and Mr. and Mrs. Dick White and son Ricky, all Vancouver, Wash., spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Carlson and Mr. and "Mrs. Jesse Warfield. The Mr. Whites are nephews of Mr. Carlson and Mrs. Warfield. Teachers New teachers hired for the coming year in the lone school are, Mr. Lujan who will teach Spanish, typcing 1 and 2 and bookkeeping; and Mrs. Allie Al bertson of La Grande who will teach the 2rd grade.
