Robert Drake New By Echo Fo-lmateer Robert Drake was elected com mander of the lone American Leg ion post at a meeting Wednes day evening, June 12. Other of. ficers elected were vice command ed, Gene Rietmann; adjutant, Bill Rietmann; chaplain, Corliss Mc Leod and Ernest McCabe, histor ian and Eldon Tucker, sergeant at arms. McLeod is the outgoing commander. Plans were made for the fireworks June 29 which will be followed by a dance at Legion nan. Johnny K s orchestra, featur ing Bert Wells of Pasco, will play. Wells will give a half hour per- iormance for the children. Mrs. John Proudfoot was elected president of the Women's Topic club at a meeting at the home of Mrs. Mary Swanson Friday afternoon, June 14. Other officers elected were Mrs. Dixon Smith, vice president and Mrs. Norman Nelson, secretary-treasurer. Mem bers brought books and money for the public library. Mrs. Proudfoot and Mrs. Verner Troedson gave reports on Africa taken from the book Inside Africa by John Gun ther. Programs for the coming year were given out. The club will not have any more meetings until September. The hostesses wre Mrs. Swanson, Mrs. Victor Rietmann, Mrs. Troedson and Mrs, Proudfoot. The July meeting will be at the Phil Emert home. Daily Vacation Bible school end ed Friday after running for two weeks at the Community church. A program was held Friday eve ning at the church with songs, readings and demonstrations. Julie Rietmann was pianist. Ex hibits of the work the children did during the school were shown in the basement. Seventy children were enrolled and the largest at tendance at one time was 59. Teachers and helpers were Rev. and Mrs. Floyd S. Bailey, Mrs. L. F. Leathers, Mrs. Pete Cannon, Mrs. Delmer Crawford, Mrs. Ken neth Smouse, Miss Julie Riet mann, Mrs. Elmer Ewart, Mrs. Markham Baker, Mrs. Ernest Mc Cabe, Mrs. Joe Hausler, Lona White, Linda Halvorsen, Dianna Pettyjohn, Dalene McDonald, Kathleen and Kathrine Wade, Marilyn Morgan and Mardine Ba ker. Mrs. Milton Morgan and Mrs. Earl McCabe prepared and served refreshments each day of the school. A picnic was held in the city park at noon Friday.
