Funeral services were held at Hood River May 24 for Solomon Isaac Stratton, 87, a teacher and farmer In the Lyle, Wn., area since 1910. Mr. Stratton was born in Clin ton county, Missouri, Nov. 20, 18C9 and came to Oregon when he was 13 years old. He worked on the railroad at Heppner in the 1890s, and after graduating from Monmouth College in 1897 came back to Heppner where he taught school and served as Morrow county school superintendent in 1903 and 1904. He is survived by his widow who now resides at North Bonne ville sanitarium, and two sons both living in Washington. Tibbies returned Joe Batty was here from La Grande for the weekend at the Henrv Conner home. Mr. and Mrs. Abe Gates andi13 from Porfland where they children were weekend guests at.had been for a week attending her folks, the Wayne Leathers. Mrs. Barbara McDonald and son of Long Creek visited her folks, the Dick Williams, Sunday. Stanley Musgrave who was in the John Day hospital for surgery returned home Friday. Mr. and Mrs. Paul Kimmel and children spent Sunday in Dayville where he preached his last ser mon before moving to Troutdale where he will be paste of the Presbyterian church. There are quite a few moving j here from Mitchell to work in the logging as the logs are being hauled to Prineville. Mrs. Archie Cox and children left Saturday for a visit with her folks back east. A farewell party was given Fri day evening for Rev. Paul Kim mel and family. Doris Capon was in John Day hospital for three days. She is now home and will be confined for 10 days. Stanley Musgrave is in the John Day hospital for surgery he hopes to get home about Wed nesday. Mrs. Stella McCarty and Mrs. Roy Davis drove to Heppner Tuesday to get polio shots for (heir children. L. J. Matteson of Alturas, Cal. was in Heppner and Mounment u.st weekend. the grand chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star, as delegates. o INITIATED INTO HONORARY Miss Jean Marie Graham, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Claude Graham, was recently initiated into Sabers a women's service honorary at Eastern Oregon col lege at La Grande. o NAMES OMITTED FROM STORY It was ommitted last week in the Blevins Gonty wedding story that Miss Marguarite Glavey was at the organ and played the wed ding music and accompanied Bill Kenny as he sang "Ava Ma ria" and Mrs. Don Hatfield who sang, "Mother At Your Feet I'm Kneeling." o BOY SCOUTS CAMP Boy Scout Troop No. 86 went to Little Mahoney lake Friday and camped overnight. R. Fortner, who took him home Monday. The Fortners spent last week in Heppner. NAME INCORRECT Last week's story concerning the veteran's memorial plaque which was dedicated at the pio neer picnic carried one wrong name of those listed. The correct name should be Nalbro B. Cox, son of the late Elbert L. Cox. o Rev. and Mrs. Lester Boulden and Mrs. Douglas Drake left Mon day for the Oregon annual con ference of the Methodist church at Corvallis. They will return to Heppner on Saturday. Miss Gail Bugarsky and Glen Long of Pendleton were weekend guests of Mr. and Mrs. Herb Case. Miss Patsy Wright Is working in the Gilliam county agents of fice in Condon for the summer. Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Nash and daughter of Neche, North Da kota, were guests at the home of his brother, Mr. and Mrs. Lincoln Nash on Friday and Saturday. Local News In Brief Mr. and Mrs. O. W. Damon of La Grande were weekend guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Claude Graham. Miss Barbara Barkhorn of Stockton, Calif., is visiting at the home of Mrs. Kay Kononen. Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Springer of Hood River visited at the home of the Arnold Springers and the Lincoln Nash home last week. Lyle Jensen has arrived homo for the summer from Forest Grove where he attends Pacific Uni versity. He was accompanied by Miss Pat Baseel of St. Helens, who visited here for the weekend. Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Springer and two children were in Hood River Sunday. Their daughter will spend the summer there with her grandparents. Mr. and Mrs. L. J. Pape of Port land were in Heppner early this week looking over their farming interests in this area. Mr. and Mrs. Ted Smith were in Portland over the weekend to at tend the graduation of their daughter-in-law, Mrs. Phil Smith, from the University of Oregon School of Nursing. Mrs. Ealor Huston had as her guests on Monday her neice'and family, Mr. and Mrs. George No. ble and son Jim of Portland and overnight guests on Tuesday were her sister and brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Andre J. Wolff also of Portland. Homer Hager is a patient in St Anthony's hospital at Pendleton. Dr. A. D. McMurdo left last Wednesday for Charlottesville, Virginia where he will attend his class reunion at the University of Virginia. His two brothers, Dr. F. S. McMurdo and Dr. Hew McMur do both fo San Francisco will also be there. He expects to return home this weekend. Mrs. Harry Storey of Chilliwack, B. C. has returned to her home after a months visit at the home of her sister and brother-in-law, Dr. and Mrs. A. D. McMurdo. Her daughter and husband, Mr. and Mrs. John Hammond of Seattle were here for the weekend and she returned home with them. Mr. and Mrs. Wilbur Worden and Mr. and Mrs. Carl Thorpe spent Memorial Day vacation at Lake Pend Oreille on a fishing trip. Mr. and Mrs. Laurence Becket and family visited In Portland for several days last week, returning on Friday. Mr. and Mrs. Een Andersn vis ited friends in Portland during the last week. Mr. and Mrs. Floyd ..Worden spent several days in Portland last week, where Mrs. Worden at tended grand chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star. Mrs. Cornett Green, Mary Ruth and Steven were in Portland on Monday. Marion Green has gone to Port land for a week to attend the Equitable Life Assurance Society school.
