the penicillin-salt mixture
there was a great reduction in
the number of cases of bloat ob
served. On most farms no bloat
was observed on the third day
aftter starting the mixture, with
only a few scattered cases being
observed during the remainder
of the bloat season. No cattle
were lost from bloat after start
ing the peenieillin-salt mixture.
Average penicillan-salt con
sumption was about .7 ounce per
animal per day. However, con
sumption varied from farm to

penicillin-salt mixture was con

seven selected steers known to

Ladine Clover and were checked
six times each day, throughout
the day for bloat, there was an
average of 20 cases of bloat per

consumption of the mixture. Cat

is available. It was concluded
that the penicillin-salt mixture
was of definite value in reducing
the incidence of bloat in cattle
grazing legume pastures. There
is only one catch to the program
and that is the price of the peni-
cilllan-salt mixture is exception
ally high priced. It would prob
ably not be economical as a pre
ventive unless considerable trou
ble with bloat had been occur
ing. However, if you have a
bunch of $200 t0 $.300 cattle in
good irrigatted pasture and they
start bloating this penicillan-

answer you need.
