Hermann and Mrs. Har old Dobyns are heads of the child welfare committee and Mrs. John Eubanks and Mrs. Cleo Drake had charge of the program. At tending from a distance were Mrs. Hugh Murchison Auxiliary president of district 6 and Mrs. Vernon Kennedy and daughter Georgia Lee, all of Pendleton. Baptismal services were held for Earl McKinney and sons Mai colm and Leland at the Com munity church Sunday morning. Mrs. McKinney also became a member of the church by letter Mr. and Mrs. Roy Lindstrom pre sented the church with a baptis mal fount. Mrs. Lewis Halvorsen enter tained the Social club of the Eastern Star at her home Wed nesday. A luncheon wa sserved and cards were played after the business meeting. Those on the losing side of an attendance con test assisted her. Those present were Mrs. E. M. Baker, Mrs. Carl Bergstrom, Mrs. James Lindsay, Mrs. Mary Swanson, Mrs. 0. L. Lundell, Mrs. Dixon Smith, Mrs. Sam Esteb, Mrs. Charles O'Con nor, Mrs. Herbert Ekstrom, Mrs. Adon Hamlett, Mrs. Walter Dob yns, Mrs. Kenneth Smouse, Mrs. Ella Burgoyne, Mrs. James Bar nett, Mrs Omar Rietmann, Mrs. E. R. Lundell and Mrs. Cleo Drake. Those receiving prizes in pin ochle were Mrs. Baker high, and Mrs. Hamlett 2nd high. In pedro Mrs. Lundell high and Mrs. Swanson 2nd high. Guests at" the Lewis Halvorsen home last week were Mr. and Mrs. Ray Hoffman and three children of Salem. They also vis ited at the Arhcie Munkers home and the Leo Crabtree home. Mrs. Hoffman is a niece of Mrs Hal vorsen, Mrs. Munkers and Mr. Crabtree. A large crowd attended the breakfaast at St. Williams Catho lic church Sunday following the church services. It was sponsored by the Altar society of the church. Mrs. Lewis Halvorsen gave a party Monday afternoon, April 1 in honor of her son Frank's sixth birthday. Children present were Carl Smouse, John Paul Proud foot, Jimmle Swanson, Jimmie and Nancy Leathers, Ronnie Pal mateer, Stevie Ring, Charles Wilkes, Jr., Mark Tullis, Bonnie Akers, Sharlene Hamlett, Joyce and Jackie Howton, Tressa and Teena Stefani, Michael Wilkes Judy Esteb, Teresa Tucker, Con nie Emert, Kieth Nelson, Tommy, Joe, Ann and Melissa McElligott, Melvin, John and Dick Fletcher. At the business meeting of the American Legion Auxiliary at the hall Tuesday.April 2, Mrs. John Eubanks, rehabilatation chairman, stressed that old nylon hose is badly needed at Camp White for the veterans to make into rugs. These must be in by May 1. Anyone having hose may get in touch with Mrs. Eubanks or leave them at the home of Mrs. Echo Palmateer. She hopes to get a good supply for these veterans to work on. At the Bunchgrass Rebekah lodge meeting Thursday evening April 4, Mrs. Wate Crawford and Mrs. Cleo Drake were elected as delegates to the Rebekah Assem ly to be held in Bend beginning May 21. The alternates elected were Mrs. Harvey Ring and Mrs. Sam Esteb. Mrs. Paul Pettyjohn was appointed power of atterney to prepare the incorporation pa pers for the lodge. The lodge vo ted to give $5 to the cancer fund. .After the meeting cards were played and refreshments were served. The hostesses were Mrs. Wallace Matthews Mrs. E. R. Lundell and Mrs. Echo Palm ateer. At the city council meeting Tuesday evening April 2 the members decided to repair the reservoir and hire someone to take care of the city park. The extension unit met at the home of Mrs. Louis Carlson Thursday, April 4 with Mrs. Ar thur Warren as co-hostess. At the business meeting in the morning plans were made for the Home Festival to be held in Heppner May 1. The lone unit will furnish salads for the meal. Plans were made for their exhibit and dem onstrations to be given at the fes tival. In the afternoon, Miss Bev erly Bradshaw, home demonstra tion agent, showed how to make sofa cushions. The next meeting was planned for May 9. Fourteen were present and Mrs. Arthur Keene received the door prize, j A potluck dinner was served at noon. Everyone wel come. Baptismal services for children will be held during the morning worship. April 20 Willows grange meeting at 8 p. m. April 21 Sunrise services in the city park at 6 a. m. followed by a breakfast at the Community church. Easter program and wor ship will also be held In the morning at the church. Every one welcome. Frank Jepsen, son of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Jepsen returned home from Pioneer Memorial hospital where he was a patient for about a, week. Gene Crowell, son of Mr. and Mrs. Howard Crowell, recently underwent a tonsillectomy in the Pioneer Memorial hospital. Kathy Keene, daughter af Mr. and Mrs. Bryce Keene, underwent a tonsillectomy in St. Aithony's hospital in Pendleton Friday of last week. Good cook books will plot your tour and furnish the tickets for all but our unusual LAMB SHOULDER CHOPSi PIZZA STYLE Yield 1 1 chop per serving Choose -inch thick lamb shoulder chops, arm or blade bone, allowing 1 chop for each serving. Using a heavy frying pan or electric skillet, brown each chop carefully on both sides in a small amount of butter or drippings over moderate heat. Sprinkle each with salt coarse-gTind black pepper, garlic salt. Spread 1 tablespoon tomato paste over each chop, then sprinkle with H teaspoon of oregano. (Marjoram or thyme may be used.) Top each chop with a slice of Mozzarella cheese, without which Pizza is not Pizza. Spread the cheese with an additional teaspoon of tomato paste. Sprinkle liberally with chopped parsley, and, if you like, add strips of flat-packed anchovies. Cover the skillet tightly and simmer very slowly until chops are fork-tender, about 45 minutes. If moisture is needed, a bit of tomato juice, stock or water may be added. If desired, a thin slice of cheese may top each chop five minutes before servirur. Serve piping hot. cently. Mr. and Mrs. Lake Beckner re cently visited Mrs. Mary Beckner in Portland who is ill at the home of her niece, Mrs, Minnie Preusse. Mrs. A. E. Stefani underwent surgery at Pioneer Memorial hos. pital last week. Mrs. Emma Dally, high school instructor, is still a patient at Pioneer Memorial hospital. Miss Janice Garrett of Portland and Mrs. C. E. Brenner retur ned home last week from a trip to Bryan, Texas where they at tended the graduation exercises of Mrs. Brenner's son. LeRov. who is now a 2nd lieutenant in the Air Force and who also re ceived his wings. They also at tended the banquet and grad uation dance and saw the jet air show put on by the Minute Men of Colorado. They experienced some of the storms there. Miss Garrett and Mrs. Brenner accom panied Lt.
