Page 4 Book Reviewed By Mrs. Peterson At Tuesday Meeting The Bookworms met Tuesday ol last week at the home of Mrs. James Thomson to hear Mrs. Lucy Peterson review the book, "Valley of the Vines," by Joy Packer. Others present were Mrs. Ted Smith, Mrs. J. O. Turner, Mrs. W. E. Hughes, Mrs. Floyd Jones, Mrs. Fred Parrish, Miss Leta Humph reys, Mrs. Jack Flug and Mrs. Harry Dinges. o Bridal Shower Honors Virginia Schwarzin Women of the Christian Wo men's Guild were hostesses Wed nesday night of last week at a bridal shower for bride-elect Vir ginia Schwarzin. About thirty guests attended. Games were played and prizes won by Mrs. Ed Albert, Mrs. Joe Hughes, Mrs. Joe Stewart. Miss Leta Humphreys read two poems and presented the gifts. Mrs. Ralph Marlatt, service chairman, was In charge of re freshments. Altar Society Names Officers The Altar society of St. Patrick's church met Tuesday, Jan. 8 and elected new officers. They are Mrs. Wallace Wolff, president; Mrs. Paul Koenig, vice-president; Mrs. William Kenny, secretary and Mrs. Wilbur Worden, treas urer. The group made plans for their annual card party which will be held Jan. 28. Hostesses for the evening were Mrs. James Healy and Mrs. William Gentry. Mrs. Tibbies held high score; Mrs. Anderson, second; Mrs. Wil son third; and Mrs. Raymond Fer. guson, low. At a short business meeting held later in the afternoon Mrs. Tom Wilson was elected president-secretary to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of Mrs. Elaine George and Mrs. Lowell Gribble was voted a new member of the club. Jack Angel Speaks ToSoroptimistClub Jack Angel, manager of Pioneer Memorial hospital, spoke to the Soroptimist club Thursday noon at O'Donnelrs on some of the needs of the hospital. ' One of the main needs is the understanding of the community of some of the rules of the hos pital and the reasons for these rules. He also spoke of the opera. tion of the hospital and told the number on the staff and those on the hospital board. Franclne Francis was the sen ior girl from Heppner high school to visit the club this week. o Dinner Party Enjoyed At The Wagon Wheel Mr. and Mrs. Edmund Bristow and Gene Grabill of lone enter tained with dinner at the Wagon Wheel Sunday evening following the Keithley-Schwarzin wedding. Guests were Mr. and Mrs. Ever ett Keithley, Sharon, Janet and Tricia; Mr. and Mrs. Steve Wiles, Mrs. Ida Grabill and Donald Bris tow. DEGREE OF HONOR MEETS The Degree of Honor met at the Legion hall Tuesday evening of last week and nominated of ficers to be installed February 12. Mrs. Carl King was the-hostess for refreshments. Heppner Gazette Times, Thursday, January chamber will hold its regular meeting in the cafeteria and entertainment will be sponsored by the student council. The enter tainment committee is headed by co-chairmen Shirley Kononen and Vic Groshen. The Condon high band will fea. ture an exchange assembly on January 30, at 1:00 in the gym, A National Assembly featuring Pruth McFarlin, a singer, accom panied by Sarah Hedrick is sche duled for January 19. Discussion was held on feeding the basketball teams after the games. Each class will serve for one of the remaining games and two clubs will each serve once as there are only six home games. The seniors served last Friday night, the juniors serving this Friday, then the sophomores and freshmen. January 13-18 features the March of Dimes campaign. Each class is sponsoring a candidate for a King and Queen. Voting for the campaign is one vote for a dime. A dance sponsored by the student council, will be held after the Lexington game this Friday. This "Polio Rock and Roll" will honor the Polio King and Queen, with all proceeds going to the March of Dimes. Admis sion is 25 cents for couples and 15c for singles. Activities In class meetings held last Wednesday the seniors nominat ed Gary Jones and Laurel All stott for their King and Queen candidates for the March of Dimes campaign. Juniors chose Ed Groshen and Judie Spaulding; sophomores, Ned Clark and Ner ma Geyer; and freshmen Tom Driscoll and Carol Anderson. Pep club members received their emblems the first of the week. The buttons are made of blue and gold felt, and will be displayed this Friday for the first time. The student council is sponsor ing World Clothing Week from January 21-25. People wishing to donate clean, wearable clothing should call the high school.
