Heppner Gazette Times, Thursday, January 3, 1957 Benefit Party Held For lone Library By Echo Palmateer A benefit card party for the public library was given at the home of Mrs. Echo Palmateer on Friday afternoon Dec. 28 with Mrs. Omar Rietmann, Mrs. Mary Swanson and Mrs. Arvilla Swan- son as co hostesses. Pinochle and pedro were played. Those receiv ing prizes were: in pinochle, Mrs Verner Troedson, high and Mrs. Herbert Ekstrom low. In pedro, Mrs. Ida Coleman, high and Mrs Ernest Heliker, low. Mr. and Mrs. VV. G. Seehafer of Bickleton, Wash, and Mr. and Mrs. George Holderman and son of Corvallis visited relatives here last week. Mrs. Edna Yarnell of Portland is visiting her daughter and family, Mr. and Mrs. Charles O'Connor. Dates to remember: Jan. & 12th Night ceremony on the Rietmann vacant lot on Main street at 5 p. m. Jan. 8 Garden club meeting at the Ernest Heliker home In the afternoon. Jan. 9 Maranatha club meet ing at the Community church Cleanup of church with sack lunch at noon. Jan. 11 Topic club meeting at the home of Mrs. Mary Swan son at 2:15 p. m. Jan. 15 Donkey basketball game at school gym in the even ing. Masons Install The following officers were in stalled in the Masonic lodge here Dec. 19: WM, Gene Rietmann; SW, Leo Crabtree; JW, Roy Lind strom; treasurer, Paul Pettyjohn; secretary, Lewis Halvorsen: SD, Adon Hamlett; JD, Gary Stephen son; Sb, James Harnett; JS, Ro bert DeSpain; marshal, Walter Dobyns; chaplain, Melvin He lena; tyler, Walter Roberts. Omar Rietmann, father of Gene Rietmann, was the Installing of fleer; Walter Dobyns, the install ing marshal and Charles O'Con nor the installing chaplain. A potluck dinner was served at 6:30 p. m. There were around 60 of the Masons and Eastern Star members and their families present. After the installation Roy Lindstrom showed movies of their recent trip to Hawaii. The rest of the evening was spent playing games. Visitors last week at the E. W. Bristow home were their sons and families, 2Lt. and Mrs. John Bris tow of Lubbock, Texas and Mr. and Mrs. Tommy Bristow and children of Portland. A-C LeRoy Brenner of Bryan, Texas spent his leave with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Bren ner. Gaylord Salter, who teaches at Umapine spent his vacation with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Salter. Mr. and Mrs. Dale Hatfield and children of Lebanon spent Christmas with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Hatfield. Mrs. Ida Coleman and daugh ter, Ann Belle, were Portland visitors last week. They brought Linda Williams home with them. Mr. and Mrs. Gene Engleman and daughter of Spokane and Mr. and Mrs. John Turner of Baker spent Christmas with relatives here. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Lundell of Milwaukie were visitors here last week. Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Ekstrom and son Roland, spent Christmas with their son and family, Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Ekstrom, Jr., in The Dalles. Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Newton and children of Coos Bay, Miss Anna and Miss Virginia Jepsen of Port land, and John Jepsen of Kla math Falls spent Christmas with relatives here. Frank Jepsen went to Portland last week for medical treatment. Mr. and Mrs. Delmer Crawford and daughters and Mr. and Mrs. Franklin Ely spent the holidays with the Fayne Ely family in Forest Grove. Miss Alice Nichoson of Port land spent Christmas with her mother, Mrs. Edith Nichoson. Mr. and Mrs. Dwight Haueen and daughters of Portland spent last week with her mother, Mrs Fannie Griffith, and other rela tives. Rev. and Mrs. Lloyd Knight spent last week In Corvallis. Fred Ely spent Christmas with his son and family, Mr. arid Mrs. David Ely at Ordnance. Two Couples Married Miss Jan Moo, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Moe of Portland, and Thomas White, son of Mr. and Mrs. Gordon White of lone were married in Stevenson, Wash. Dec. 21. They will live in Port land. Miss Carolyn Crabtree, daugh ter of Mr. and Mrs. Leo Crabtree and Alvin McCabe, son of Mr. and Mrs. L. A. McCabe, were married at The Dalles Dec. 26. They will make their home in La Grande where Mr. McCabe Is a student at E. O. C. E. Mr. and Mrs. Lee Palmer are the parents of a daughter, Bar bara Ann, born Dec. 27 at the Pioneer Memorial hospital. The weight, 7 lbs. and 4 ozs. Mr. and Mrs. Lincoln Nash of Heppner and Mr. and Mrs. Marion Palmer of lone are the grandparents. Mr, and Mrs. Lawrence Palmer of Lexington and Mr. and Mrs. Noah Pettyjohn are the great-grandpar. ents. Holiday guests at the Earl Mc Kinney home were Mrs. Allie Ruggles of Grass Valley, Mr. and Mrs. Orval Ruggles and family, Mr. and Mrs. Willard Barnett and son and Mr. and Mrs. Fred Cole of Wasco. Mr. and Mrs. Harry Peterson and children of Dayvllle, spent the weekend with his mother, Mrs. Eslie Peterson. Miss Mabel McCabe of Enter prise visited relatives here over the holidays. Donald Corson of Richland, wash., visited this grandmother, Mrs. Delia Corson last week. Thelma Sanders .of Heppner visited ner sister, Mrs. Rex Me- lena last week. Miss Darlene Madden and Rich ard Donald both of Portland were married Dec. 7 in Portland. The bride was a former resident here, and is the daughter of Mrs. Elbe Akers. Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Mallery ana sons (jerry and Jimmy, Seat tie, Wash., were visitors at the home of Mrs. Mallery's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Claud Coats, last Thursday and Friday, leaving for Seattle Saturday morning. On their return there they are mov ing to Anchorage, Alaska to live for the next two and a half years, where Mallery will work in his position as auditor for the gov ernment. Mr. and Mrs. Ed Dennv. of Seattle, Wash., visited at the home of Mrs. Dennv's mother. Mrs. Blanche Jones, last Friday. Mr. and Mrs. William Garner and children Dick and Anita spent the Christmas holidays at the home of Garner's mother, Mrs. Blanche Garner in Bend. Mrs. Laura Allen was hostess for a family dinner at her home Christmas day. Present were Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Allen, Mr. and Mrs. Willard Baker and daugh ters Connie, and Carolyn, and Mr. and Mrs. Clayton Allen and child ren Cammie and Bobbie of Sun nyside, Wash. Clifford Thorpe and son Jerry and Lawrence Potter of Lakeport, Calif., were Sunday visitors at the home of Thorpe's brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Na than Thorpe. Mrs. Freda Thayer spent the holidays at her home in Lyons. She was accompanied back here by her niece, Miss Sherry Jones of West Linn, who is visiting here this week. Mr. and Mrs. Buster Padberg are the parents of a son born one day last week in Pioneer Memor ial hospital. Word was received in Lexing ton this week of the birth of a son Joseph Marvin to Mr. and Mrs. Joe S. Feathers. Mr. Feath ers was the principal of the local high school several years ago. Denny McMillan accompanied by Alice, Judy and Richard Wih Ion motored to Ephrata on Sat urday taking the Wihlon girls to their home there after a visit with their father Armin Wihlon and family. Dick, John and Gene Wallace will return home with him after a visit there with their father, Herman Wallace and family. Rev. Norman Northrup returned home Saturday from Washington where he spent the holidays. Mrs. Northrup and daughter Peggy r.e malned there to help with the care of Norman's mother who is critically ill. Mr. and Mrs. O. W. Cutsforth entertained their children at a dinner at the ranch on Christmas day. Those present were Mr. and Mrs. Pat Cutsforth, Mr. and Mrs. O. W.
