Wight man of Tomales, California an nounce the engagement of their daughter Margaret Lynn (Peggy) to Mr. Donald Ciapuscia, son of Mr. and Mrs. George Ciauuscia of Concord, California. Mr. Ciapusci served in the Ko rean war with the United States Coast Guard and is at present a student at Contra Costa County Junior college . He will attend California Polytechnic at San Luis Obispo, in September. Plans have been made for a summer weddine in Concord. The Royal Arch Masons were hosts Friday evening for a pot luck dinner for their wives, at the Masonic temple. Following dinner the degree team from Pendleton put on a past masters degree during the lodge meeting. Wilbur Camp bell, district deputy of Pendleton made his official visitation at this time. Officers wives were hostesses for the card party for the women following the dinner. Mrs. Wal ter Ruggles had high score in bridge and Mrs. Blaine Isom was second. In pinochle, Mrs. Mar garet Logan of Arlington was first and Mrs. Martha Van Sch oiach, second. Mrs. Lowell Grib bie received the door prize. Fifteen Tables in Play at Elks Party Ladies of the Elks met Thurs day of last week for their month ly card party. Potluck dinner was at 6:30. Mrs. Terrell Benge was chairman and other hostesses for cards and refreshments were Mrs. James Hayes, Mrs. John Camp bell, Mrs. Paul Webb, Mrs. Harold Peck, Mrs. Floyd Jones, Mrs. George Snider, Mrs. Bob Hastings and Mrs. Al Lovgren. Over 150 at tended the dinner. Eight tables of pinochle and seven tables of bridge were in play during the evening. High score in pinochle went to Mrs. Floyd Worden, and Mrs. Del Jordan was second. Thursday Nov 15 Soroptimists, noon at O'Donnell's Elks, stag dinner Friday Nov. 16 Sans Souci Re bekah lodge Club To Sponsor Girl For Girls State At the monthly business meet ing of the Soroptimist club Thurs day noon at O'Donnell's, the club voted to sponsor another girl to Girls State this year. The Ameri can Legion auxiliary sponsors a girl each year and two girls will be able to attend this year with the sponsorship by the Soropti mist club. Committee reports were given and plans made for the Christ mas activities. The first protect will be mailing of the Christmas box to the sister club in Tarn- worth, England. The annual havride was re ported to have been a success with around 200 teenagers in attendance. The Dalles Rebekahs Visit Local Lodge Sans Souci Rebekah lodge met Friday night at the I. O. O. F. hall for their regular business meting. Thirty one members and four guests from Azalea Lodge No. 99, The Dalles, paid the Heppner group a surprise visit for the pur pose of presenting them with the traveling gavel. Twenty three local members were present. Refreshments were served fol lowing the meeting by the hos tesses, Mrs. Alvin Casebeer and Mrs. Merle Kirk. Need Letterheads? Phone 6-9228 Legion Auxiliary Has Benefit Party Ladies of the American Legion auxiliary held a card party Fri day night at the home of Mrs. Kemp Dick for the benefit of the Portland Veterans' hospital. Mrs. Gene Ferguson was general chair, man. Six tables were in pfay. Mrs. William Labhart had high score in bridge and Mrs. Ned Sweek was second high. In pin ochle, Mrs. Roy Quackenbush re ceived high score and Mrs. Jack Bailey, second. The door prize went to Mrs. Merlin Wagoner. Past Matrons Have Potluck Dinner The past matrons and past pat rons of Ruth chapter No. 32 OES had a potluck dinner and card party Monday evening October 29 at the Masonic temple. . Local Couple Married At Lewiston Thursday Miss Mickey Nichols, daughter of Mrs. Nettie Thorpe and John Mollahan, son of Mr. and Mrs. P. A. Mollahan, were married Thursday October 29 at Lewis- ton, Idaho. The bride is a junior at Hepp ner high school and the groom is a graduate of that school. The couple will make their home in Heppner. The high school had their party in the evening. Friday was Sadie Hawkins Day sponsored by the Athletic club. This was followed by a dance in the old gym that evening. Superintendent Woodroof gave achievement tests to the eighth grade last week. Mrs. Roxie Moeck, second and third grade teacher was 111 Thurs day of last week and Mrs. Earl McCabe taught in her place. Mr. Woodroof was ill Monday. , Monday Nov. 12 will be a holi day. The eighth grade made $118.20 on their magazine contest. PONY KICKS By Shirlee Upton A prize belt won at the Wrang lers bv Geraldine Swaecart was brought and shown to Mrs. Boul- den's class recently. Students participating in the class meeting at 7b were enter tained this Tuesday by Darlene Turner, who played several popu lar selections on her accordion for the program. Some interesting pictures were created for social studies, per taining to important happen ings. These were later used in a guessing game. News From Snyder Mr. Snyder's and Mr. Willis' eighth grades copped first and second prizes for their hilarious skits on the hayride. It shall also be said that the action for the aforementioned was considered very well done. The resulting cash prize was divided between the two rooms. Grade School Votes Students formed a line at the polls in the hall Wednesday and received their ballots on which they marked Xs for the man of their choice. These votes will be tallyed and related to you in the next week's column. FORMER HEPPNER WOMAN AT KENTUCKY COLLEGE Mrs. Vernon Greenhalgh, daughter of the Rev. and Mrs. Earl L. Soward, Heppner, has en rolled at The College of the Bible, Lexington, Kentucky. She is a graduate of the Northwest Chris tian College and has attended the University of Oregon. Her hus band is a minister of religious education. Mrs. Greenhalgh's work at The College of the Bible, a graduate seminary of the Chris tian churches, will be toward a master of religious education degree.
