Buckburger Feed
The Wranglers enjoyed a pot

METHOEIST AWARD Mrs. Grace Drake, Heppner Methodist church
lay member to the annual conference, is shown receiving the
church's award for improvement from Miss Jean Lovejoy of the
Sears-Roebuck Foundation, sponsors of the award. The second
place award brought with it a check for $150 and was presented
at the recent Town and Country church conference held in Cor-
vallis.

Blend 1 cup soft shortening, Wi cups sugar, 2 eggs. Sift
together and stir in 2V4 cups enriched Oregon flour, 2 tsp.
cream of tartar, 1 tsp'. soda and Vi tsp. salt. Mix h 1 cup
ground filberts or walnuts, chill dough. Roll Into "walnut-ilie"
balls. Roll in mixture of tbip. sugar and 2 tsp. cinnamon. Place
2 Inches opart on greased baking sheet. Bake at 400 8-19
minutes or until lightly browned but still soft.

Meets At Craber Home
Lena Extension Unit met on
Thursday of last week at the
home of Mrs. Dallas Craber. The
topic for the afternoon was "Sea
foods". Mrs. Craber was project leader,
assisted by Mrs. Jerry Brosnan.
Mrs. Robert Brindle served a sea
food dinner at noon.
Others present were Mrs. V. E.
Hughes, Mrs. Randall Martin,
Mrs. C. B. Andrews of Beaverton
and Mrs. George Currin.

parish hall Thursday evening.
Five tables of bridge and four
tables of pinochle were in play.
In pinochle, Mrs. Lincoln Nash
won first prize and Bill Collins,
low. Mrs. Gene Ferguson was
high in bridge and Mrs, Bruce
Lindsay, low. Mrs. Glenn Mc
Lachlan received the door prize.
Refreshments were served fol
lowing the party.

Heppner, now of Ellensburg,
Washington.

Has Social Meeting
Beta Omego chapter of Epsilon
Sigma Alpha met at the lone
Legion hall on October 17. This
was the October social meeting.
Tiie theme of the party was, Back
To School.
Tests were given in arithme
tic, geography and spelling and
relay games were played.
Refreshments of cookies, coffee
and hot chocolate were served.
Rainbow Girls Give
Annual Dinner
Heppner Assembly of Rainbow
Girls held their annual dinner
Monday night for Masons and
their daughters and initiated
Mary Shannon.
The girls were in charge of the
dinner, assisted by members of
the advisory board. Each Rain
bow girl introduced herself and
her Masonic father. The Rever
end Lester Boulden gave the in
vocation. About forty were present.

The world map in Mrs. Boul
den's room is being colored as
each section is studied. Africa has
been colored in by Kenneth Dag
gett and Billy Mahon.

The National Merit scholar
ship testing program will be held
at the school Wednesday Oct. 23.
Many of the seniors are interested
in this program.

Eastern Oregon Shrub
Quiz Leaflet Issued
An easy guide to identifying 30
Eastern Oregon shrubs is now
available in a single-sheet circu
lar published by the Oregon State
college extension service.
Titled,' "Eastern Oregon Shrub
Quiz", the circular lists and has
pictures of the foliage of 30 dif
ferent shrubs found east of the
Cascades. Persons taking the
quiz are asked to name the shrubs
from the pictures. An accom
panying circular gives answers to
the quiz.
The teaching aid was devel
oped for use by 4-H clubs, as a
quiz sheet for study groups, and
as a handy reference guide for
visitors and others on outings.
Copies are available from county
extension offices or the OSC bul
letin clerk.
