Burns Take Life Of Monument Boy By Martha Matteson Charles Roach, 20, son of Mr, and Mrs. Charles Roach Sr. of Monument and Klmberly, pas sed away Saturday morning after suffering severe burns on most of his body Tuesday afternoon when the fuel tank of a tractor explod ed. The accident occurred at the old Sloeum ranch on Deer Creek. The boy was repairing a trac tor in the hay field at the time. He was given first aid at Monu ment and then taken to the John Day general hospital. Later he was transferred by plane to the Providence hospital in Portland. "Brownie" Roach, as he was known, had been active in 4-H club work in Grant county most of his life and he attended East ern Oregon College last year as a freshman. Services were held in Monu ment Tuesday afternoon. Larry Holmes, son of Clarence Holmes, was visiting over the 4th. Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Geinger and daughter were in from the air base at Moses Lake. Mr. and Mrs. Gus Peterson and sons drove to Heppner July 3 and on their return brought his two cousins Martha and Alice Peter son to spend the week. Lawrence Matteson of Heppner spent the 4th with his uncle, Elmer Matteson. The Carston Brandhagens and Cob Kellys spent the 4th at the Joe Mellor home. Lewis and her sister and family the Rav Davis's, and her brother, Earl Lewis. Mrs. Clara Flower soent the holidays in Portland on business. She also visited her father A. D. Courter at Molalla and her mother who is in the Silverton hospital. Earl Lewis drove to Prine- ville July 4 to bring back his wife and son.
