If you like to live outside in the summertime, you'll welcome new outdoor furniture fashions being featured in Oregon stores. Furnishings for "leisure liv ing" are arriving daily and more will be shown in weeks to come, according to Myrtle Carter home furnishings specialist at Oregon State college. Manufacturers are concentrat ing on duo-purpose furniture that can be used inside the house during colder months and then carried outdoors for summer use, Mrs. Carter says. Many new pieces for rustproof, sun-resistant and waterproof. Emphasis is on lightweight metal sKeieton frames, that fold for easy carry ing. Metal, rattan, cane, plastics and hamhoo are popular mater ials. Wrought iron carts used for plants inside go outdoors as cola drink stands. Chairs and chaise lounges mmp with aluminum frames. Ke movahlp foam rubber liners covered with plastic are left un scathed by dampness and tern nerature changes. Metal colors run rampant. Al uminum comes in natural, gold en, and copper finish. Rust-proof bronze furniture blends beauti fully with new upholstery colors, the specialist points out. Pink metal combined with saran web bing in several color patterns is being marketed. Saran, a seat cover standby for several years, is flame resistant, sag-proof, easily cleaned and defies sun, rain and mildew. Picnic tables, benches and chairs are made from redwood. They're solid, rueeed and heavy and can stay outdoors all year round. The trend is toward correlated groups chairs, solas, taDies that eo well together. bimpie sleek lines are easiest to fit into room schemes, says Mrs. Carter. A memo to the shopper on a hndfet: choose uncluttered look ine nieces in subtile colors. They'll look handsome longer and blend better with temporary furnishing. OSC Devises System For Removing Dents In Irrigation Pipe A safe, simple method of re storing kinked or dented alumi num irrigation pipe has been de vised at Oregon State college. It j could save Oregon's growing number of sprinkler-irrigation thousands of dollars an nually in salvaged pipe and re duced labor costs. The pipe-straightening tech nique, developed by Dale Kirk, acrrimiitnpfll pnsineer, uses water pressure TO mnme r-v- original shape. A low-cost hy-j draulic nana pump anu a ci w special pressure plugs xo seai the trick. Restored pipe has 95 percent of its original strength at the aamagea area, rmmnn hut costlv methods now used to restore pipe include hammering out dents or cutting out damaged sections and re coupling the shartened pope. Malleting out dents leaves the tubing rough. These "rough spots like dents, reduce" water pressure through friction. Kirk's water-pressure method la nn nrlo taV hilt safe if piP breaks under the water treatment, it simple spurts water, ine spe cial sealing plugs take pressure up to 1500 pounds per square inch, 75 percent of the pressure1 aluminum pipe can stand. As a guard against pipe-rup turing, Kirk says dented pipe! ,! v,ivi nn nits, tears, sharp crimps or otherwise weakened areas. Restored pipe is iiKeiy iu bend easier at the point of dam age than new pipe if picked up suddenly at one end while it is full of water, he cautions. The researcher estimates the niu ps would cost about $100 a pair probably too much for the average irrigation farmer. But he thinks it is practical ior someone to offer this service on a custom basis. The OSC agricul. tural engineering department now has plans available for 3- inch pipe plugs. o KEEP OREGON GREEN IONE NEWS Mr. and Mrs. John Fox of Trentwood, Wash, spent Satur day with his brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Thome. 7 let DISTANCE keep family and friends close to you typical low rates from Heppner Boston .' $2.00 Chicago 1.75 Los Angeles 1.20 San Francisco ...... 1.00 Station to station rates, not includins tax. for minutes after 6 p.m. weekdays and all day Sunday Fnoy a family reunion tonight by telephone Pacific Telephone HOSIERY SEVENTH DAY ADVENTIST CHURCH Robert E.
