The Ladles Aid society of the Community church met on Wed nesday afternoon of last week at the home of Mrs. Louise Ear wood, with Mrs. Tim Rippee as co-hostess. Mrs. Bob Miller and Ms. Lowell Shattuck had charge of the missionary program. There were 14 ladies present. Officers for the next year were elected at the meeting of the P-TA on Thursday night of last week at the school. Mrs. Lowell Shattuck was elected president; Mrs. Everett Daniels, vice-presi dent; Mrs. Eldon Shannon, secre tary; Mrs. Clifford Jones, treas urer. Mrs. Blanche - Jones and son Phil and daughter Etta and Ei leen Ely went to Athena Saturday to visit at the home of Mrs, Jones' son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Bob Zerba. Mr. and Mrs. Sid Ferguson left last week for Butte, Mont., where Ferguson will be employed. Mr. and Mrs. Vern Moe and family, Castle Rock, Wash., were recent visitors at the home of Mrs. Moe's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Guy Ferguson. While there they took the Fergusons on a trip to Lewis ton, Idaho. The county extension unit met Tuesday of last week at 10 a. m. at the home of Mrs. Ralph Skoubo, with 18 present. Subject of the meeting was "Meat in meals", with Mrs. Hugh Brown as leader. Miss Beverly Bradshaw, county extension agent, Heppner, was present. Serving were Mrs. Rollin Bishop, Mrs. William Gar ner and Mrs. Ray Gronquist. Following officers were elected for next year: Mrs. Gene Hiigel, chairman; Mrs. Bob Stewart, vice-chairman; Mrs. Arnold Hoff man, secretary-teasurer. Mrs. Dewey West was elected to the county committee. Next meeting, which will be the last one this year, will be on Monday, May 14, at the home of Mrs. Nate Macomber. Subject will be "Clothes Remodeling." Miss Bradshaw will be the lead er. A bulletin will be sent out on this later. The annual Homemakers' Fes tival will be at Heppner on May 1 at the fair pavilion, starting at 10:30 a. m. Anyone wishing luncheon tickets should purchase them by April 23. Mrs. William Garner, Mrs. Arthur Allen and Mrs. Bob Stew art went to Pine City on Wednes day of last week for the final program planning day of the ex tension unit. Miss Zelma Cowan is in Emanuel hospital in Portland where she had surgery on her foot last week. Temperatures have been cooler here this week after the warm days of last Friday and Saturday when the thermometer reached 85 above, the warmest so far this spring. Maximum was 72 above Monday and minimum Monday and Tuesday was 40 above. Greenfield grange met Satur day night at the hall, starting with potluck supper at 6:30. Hosts were Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Tannehill and Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Skoubo. For the lecture hour Louis Parton of the soil con servation office in Hermiston showed slide pictures taken on the soil conservation ' tours in Boardman and Irrigon the past two years. He alio showed some pictures of the North Morrow county fair. Mr.and Mrs. Walter Turner and three children of Philomath were weekend visitors at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Black. On Saturday evening Mrs. Black wa9 hostess at dinner in honor of the Turners.
