mtU Heppner Gazette Times, Thursday, April 19, 1956 V Many Attend Women's Church Association Meeting at lone Monday By Echo Palmctteer The annual meeting of the Mid Columbia Women's Associa tion met at the Community church Monday April 16. There were 51 present. Representatives came from- Enterprise, .Engle Chapel, The Dalles and Condon. The Maranatha club served the luncheon at noon. Those staying overnight were Rev. and Mrs. Wain stayed at the Noel Dobyns home; Dr. and Mrs. Paul Davies of Portland at the E. M. Baker home and Mrs. Gordon and Mrs. Van' Doozer of Portland at the Milton Morgan home. The meeting next year will be at Condon. The following program was given: Prelude by Mrs. E. M. Baker; devotions by Mrs. Clyde Davis of Condon; hymn by con gregation; an address How the Church is Growing to Maturity in Angola, Africa by Rev. Duane V. Wain; a question and ans wer period; a duet by Mrs. L. F. Leathers and Dalena McDonald; address, First Impressions of mid winter meeting by Mrs. F. L. Van Doozer of Portland; Indian cul ture by Mrs. G. T. Coffin of Enter prise; Resume of the work and introductions of the presidents; flashes from camp by Mrs. J. T. Gordon of Portland. In the af ternoon prelude by Mrs. Baker; business meeting; talk by Dr. Paul Davies; Women's gift offer ing;dedication of Engle Chapel; slides by Rev. Wain. A coffee hour was held after the meet ing. Officers Elected The following officers were elected at a Garden Club meet ing at the home of Mrs. Leonard Carlson Tuesday, April 10: Mrs. Monetta Aldrich, president; Mrs.,0. L. Lundell, vice president; Mrs. Phil Newitt, secretary; and Mrs. Edith Nichoson was re-elected as treasurer. At the meeting conducted by Mrs. William Raw lins, presidtnt, it was decidet to hold an iris and other flower show and a children's fashion show in May. The club will sponsor the planting around the memorial on the turfed field. Those on this committee are, Mrs. Monetta Aldrich, Mrs. Omar Rietmann, and Mrs. Phil Emert. The club will also sponsor a sun flower contest. Seeds will be dis tributed among the school child ren to be planted and entered into a contest this fall. The landscaping at the school was re ported on. The Blue Mountain district meeting will be held at Joseph May 4, the state convention at Creek. They took Patti Jean Ontario, June 10 to 12 and the, Healy, who visited at the Palma national convention at Salt Lake City June 3 to 8. Mrs, Aldrich gave a talk on herbs and their culture. She also showed drawings of plans on how to plant the herbs and told how to store them. Wayne Pierce, Ralph Akers and Bruce Rigby cleaned the city park recently. A work day in the park was set for April 19. The roll call was answered by naming a song title in which was the name of a tree, flower or a bird. There was a fine display of daffodils and tulips at the meet ing. There were 14 members and 2 guests present. The guests were Mrs. Henry Baker and Mrs. Ro bert Peterson. Refreshments were served by Mrs. Carlson and Mrs. Carl Bergstrom. Mrs. Echo Pal mateer received the door prize. The Topic club met at the home of Mrs. Herbert Ekstrom Friday afternoon Aril 13. At the business meeting conducted by Mrs. Roland Bergstrom, it was decided to give $10 to the ceme tery project sponsored by the sor ority group. Mrs. William Raw lins, Mrs. Fannie Griffith, and Mrs. Phil Newitt were appointed on the committee to prepare the programs for the coming year: It was decided to hold a picnic in June, the place to be decided up on at the May meeting. The roll call was answered by giving sug gestions for next year's program. Most of the suggestions were on different countries of the world. Questions were brought to be sent to the Quiz Kids program. For the program Mrs. Noel Do byns reviewed the book, The Search for Bridey Murphy by Morey Bernstien. The hostesses were Mrs. E. R. Lundell, Mrs Dobyns and Mrs. Ekstrom. Mrs. Victor Rietmann received the door prize- Mrs. Rena Jenkins spent a few days last week at Hermlston. Mrs. Ada Cannon of Heppner spent a couple of days at the O. L. Lundell home. She also visited other friends and rela tives here. Mr. and Mrs. Paul Pettyjohn and children have moved into their new home on the upper part of Second street. Dates to remember: April 20 H. E. C. of Willows grange meeting at the grange hall at 2 p. m. A no host meeting. Members are asked to bring cookies. April 20 Grade school athle tic banquet for 6th, 7th, 8th grades and parents. 7 p. m. in Cafetorium. April 21 Willow grange meet ing at 8 p. m. After the meeting around 9:15 p. m. Orville Cuts forth will show pictures on the Holy Land, this will be the first time these pictures were shown at grange. The public is invited. April 22 4-H Sunday at the r! :f;: v: lr 'I f-$ ix ? J .r f 75-foot exhibit at April trade fair in Osaka, Japan, will show Jap anese homemakers and commercial bakers advantages of eating wheat foods. Construction of exhibit was supervised by the Oregon Wheat League as part of its program to stimulate consumption of wheat in Asia. Community church followed by a pot luck dinner around noon. Members and friends are wel come. April 25 The Three Links club of Bunchgrass Rebekah lodge will entertain the Past Noble Grands of the district at a lunch eon at 12:30 p. m. at the Masonic hall. April 27 Three Links club at home of Mrs. Charles O'Connor. April 28 Social meeting of the Topic club at the home of Mrs. William Rawlins at 2:15 p. m. April 28 Junior-Senior ban quet and prom at the school. April 24 Maranatha meeting at the Noel Dobyns home at 2:15 p. m.
