Heppner Gazette Times, Thursday, November 17, 1955 Page! lone School Holds Open House During Education Week By Fracine Crawford This being education week, open house was held at lone school from 7:30 till 8:30 Wed nesday, October 9. Many people of the district enjoyed the various exhibits displayed in the class rooms. Some demonstrations were given in the physics and science departments. The regular business meeting of the P-TA was called at 8:30 with the president Ray Heimbig ner presiding. Superintendent Phil Newitt gave a review of the warning sentout by the county health office about hepatitis. He also gave a talk on report cards as the first nine weeks reports had just been sent out. A ques tion and discussion period fol lowed. During committee reports Berl Akers of the finance committee announced there would be no carnival till after Christmas. After Mr. Hausler reported on Cub Scouts it was decided that the question concerning the back ing of the. cub scout group would come up at the next P-TA meet ing. Refreshments were served by Mrs. Roy Lindstrom, Mr. Walter Jacobs, Mrs. Charles O'Connor, Mrs. Arthur Stefani, Mrs. Phil Newitt, Mrs. Ernest McCabe, and Mrs. John Proudfoot. Quite a few from here attend ed the Pendleton high and Wash ingion nign football game in Pendleton on Armistice Day. Mr. and Mrs. Dwight Haugen and Kathaleen of Portland spent the weekend visiting her mother, Mrs. Fannie Griffith and Mr. and Mrs. Roy Lindstrom and family Mr. and Mrs. John Voorhees and daughters of Portland spent the weekend at the Wate Craw ford home. Dinner guests of Mr and Mrs. Delmer Crawford on Friday even ing were Mr .and Mrs. John voor hees and daughters, Mrs. Milton Morgan and Marilyn and Gary, Mr. and Mrs. Wate Crawford, Mr. and Mrs. Tad Miller and child ren, and Rolle and Arthur Crawford. Mr. and Mrs. Tom Bristow and family moved to Portland on Sun day. Bristow is employed at the Pacific Saw and Knife co. there. Mr. and Mrs. Ray Barnett spent the weekend in Seattle with Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Auney. j Mr. E. E. Meyers of Salem and ! Leo crabtree spent the weekend in the mountains elk hunting. Mrs. Carl Bergstrom returned to her home this week from the Poineer Memorial hospital. The American Leeibn and the American Legion Auxiliary en joyed a party Saturday evening ai me nan. cards were played ana two movies were shown. Mr. and Mrs. Gene Hall were host and hostess of a potluck supper on Saturdav evenine honoring Mr. and Mrs. Tom Bris tow. Those attending were Mr. and Mrs. Ernest McCabe. Mr. and Mrs. Jim Sumners, Mr. and Mrs. Jim Mallon, Mr. and Mrs. Delmer Crawford, Mr. and Mrs. Jim Pettyjohn, Robert Jepsen, Mr. and Mrs. Tom Bristow and Mr. and Mrs. Louis Carlson. Dates to Remember. Nov. 19 Willows Grange. Nov. 21 Shower for Mrs. Larrv Jones at the Community church basement 2:00. Everyone Wel come. Nov. 30 Three Links Club at the Rebekah hall. December 10 Three Links club food sale and bazaar. The Garden club met at Mrs. Omar Rietmann on Tuesday with Mrs. Monetta Aldrich as co hostess. The members brought six Thanksgiving table arrange ments for display. Mrs. Edith Nicholson demonstrated and con ducted a workshop on making corsages. It was decided for a Xmas project to light a Christ mas tree in the city park. A re port of the park cleanup showed that six members participated. They were Mrs. Cecil Thome, Mrs. Phil Newitt, Mrs. Edith Nichol son, Mrs. Walter Dobyns, Mrs. Oscar Lundell, and Mrs. Fred rick Martin. Mrs. Phil Newitt is a new member or the uaraen club. The clubs thanks go to Mr. Victor Rietmann and Mr. Oscar Lundell for storing the park tables and benches. , Mr. and Mrs. John Sanders and son Greg were weekend guests of Mr. and Mrs. John Eubanks. Mr. and Mrs Dale Matthews and son of Fairbanks, Alaska visited with Mr and Mrs. Wallace Matthews this past week. Grace McCabe, Kay Sherer and Lloyd -Howton and Judy went to Pendleton on Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. George Kruger of Athena were guests of Mr. and Mrs. David McLeod Saturday evening.
