Marantha's met at the home of Mrs. L. L. Howton with Mrs. Clell Rea as co-hostess on Wed nesday. New officers were in stalled, this was a very impres sive candle lighting ceremony. The installing was done by Mrs. Wallace Matthews assisted by Mrs. Noel Dobyns. Officers being installed were Mrs. Omar Riet mann, president; Mrs. Harold Dobyns, vice president; Mrs. Gary Tuilis sec.-treas. The group voted to send a package to CARE and also to send $1.00 each mem ber to the Children Farm Home at Corvallis for Christmas. Mrs. Wate Crawford received the door prize. Mr. and Mrs. Omar Rietmann visited in Corvallis recently with their son Larry, who is a student at Oregon State. Mrs. Ruby Nichols, and Mrs. Rodger Kincald and Debbie went to Pendleton on Thursday. Lyle Kincald came to Pendleton on the plane and then on home with Mrs. Nichols to visit for the week end. Topic Club was held in the basement of the Community church on Friday with Mrs. Mil ton Morgan, Mrs. Charles Carl son, and Mrs. Dixon Smith hos tesses. The topic for the program was on Alaska. The program committee presented Mrs. Tom Wilson who showed slides and gave a talk on her trip to Alaska. Roll call was answered by each member giving a fact pertaining to Alaska. The tea table was decorated with bronze mums and candles. Mrs. Charles O'Connor, president of the club poured. Mr. and Mrs. Larry Fletcher hSfr Jlffcit TOO EARLY TO THINK ABOUT CHRISTMAS? and family of Yakima visited at the Harvey Ring's this weekend. Mr. and Mrs. Noel Dobyns re cently returned from a 2 weeks trip. While they were gone they saw the Grand Canyon. They visited with Mr. and Mrs. Harley Anderson in Phoenix, Arizona. They went on to Mexacali and Twainee, Mexico and then home through California. The Veteran's Day services were held in the Legion hall on Friday. The Boy Scouts carried the flag and led in the salute to the flag. The Star Spangled Ban ner was played by the lone school band. Rev. Shirley gave the invo cation. Several numbers were ! then played by the band. Mr. Phil Newitt, lone school supt. 'was the guest speaker. Paul I Tews, commander of the Legion acted as master of ceremonies for the services. Following the ser vices there was a community pot luck dinner sponsored by the American Legion Auxiliary. The dinner was very well attended. A cleanup of the lone Com munity church yard was held on Friday. Around 20 children rep resenting all classes helped with the cleaning. The Sunday school board meet ing was held on Monday even ing. Ruby Roberts presided dur ing the meeting. The Xmas pro gram committee was appointed. They are Mrs. Roland Bergstrom, Mrs. Roy Llndstrom, and Mrs. Fredrick Martin. Recent guest of Mr. and Mrs. Art Stefani were Mr. and Mrs. Pete Cerri and Mr. and Mrs. Ger ald Cerrl all of Portland. Mr. and Mrs. Joe Hausler and family were dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. L. L. Howton on Sun day. Fredrick Martin attended two meetings of the camp sites com- Monument News By Martha Matteson (Too Late for Last Week) Mr. and Mrs. G. Frank King and daughter of Portland were hunting and visiting with her nephew and family, the Stanley Boyers. Mrs. King was Dorothy Boyer. Don Wicks of Springfield was a guest at the Matteson home for mission of the Oregon Conference of the Methodist church in Port land and Eugene last week. Mrs. Gordon White and son Gary spent the weekend in Forest Grove. Mrs. Oscar Peterson and grand son Kerry Peterson returned to Portland last Wednesday from a month's trip to McPhearson, Kansas. On Sunday they re turned to lone with Mr. and Mrs. Donald Peterson and children. Mrs. Donald Peterson was mat ron of honor for her sister's wed ding on Friday. Kerry and Kris tine were ring bearer and flow er girl. A buffet luncheon was held at the L. A. McCabe home on Mon day for the county, committee in home economics. The alumni members were Mrs. Ernest Heli ker, lone, Mrs. Ralph Thompson, Mrs. Earle Blake, and Mrs. Ray Drake all of Heppner; Mrs. Rus-, sell Miller, Boardman; and Mrs. Paul Slaughter of Irrigon. The six members that were present were Mrs. Walter Ruggles, Lex ington, Mrs.Gene Ferguson, Hepp ner; Mrs. Lloyd Berger, Irrigon; Mrs. William Garner, Boardman; Mrs. Oren Wright, Rhea Creek; Mrs. L. Aiems and children of Eugene were week end guests at the home of her sister and family, the Mike Hut chisons and her father Joe Whit aker. Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Cox and children of Heppner spent the weekend with her folks, the Lee Lemings and the Joe Mellors, Luncheon guests at the King man home Friday were Betty Ward and two children of Long Creek, Jessie and Martha Matte son and the two youngest children of Mrs. Jack Sweek. Mr. and Mrs. Henry Martin drove to Salem on business the middle of the week. Their daugh ters Carolyn stayed at Hintons and Marguerite stayed at Lip perts. Stanley Boyer and Elzy Emery drove to Redmond Tuesday for a truck load of feed and lumber. Visiting at the Bill Gienger ranch for elk hunting were Mrs. Gienger's brothers,. Lavon Lee and Dale Lee, also Al Sheppard, all of Cottage Grove. Mr. and Mrs. Wilbur Flower drove to The Dalles Tuesday to have their car worked on.
