item? r fee ttt Uxmu Heppner, Oregon, Thursday, November 10, 1955 lone Legion Auxiliary Planning Vet's Day Potluck By Francine Crawford The American Legion Auxil iary met at the Legion hall on Tuesday, November 1 with vice president Mildred Eubanks pre siding. Due to the resignation of Mrs. Delmer Crawford as presi dent, Mrs. Eubanks will act as president the remainder of the year. Plans were made for the Annual Armistice Day potluck dinner at noon on November 11. Committees were appointed for this day. The next meeting will be at Loretta Dobyns on the af ternoon of November 15. Refresh ments were served by Mrs. John Eubanks. Mr. and Mrs. Harlan Crawford of Hermiston are the parents of a daughter, Tera Louise born at the Good Shepherd hospital in Hermiston .on November 1. The baby weighed 7 lbs. 4 ozs. Grand parents are Mr. and Mrs. Gotfried Hermann and Mr. and Mrs. W. C. Crawford. The great-grandmother is Henriette Rauch of Ger many. Hallowe'en party was held at the Dale Rays on October 31 in honor of Mrs. Harry Yarnell and Mrs. Dale Ray's birthdays. The room was decorated of Hallowe' en colors of black and orange, orange candles and bouquets of yellow and brown mums. They chatted and played bingo during the evening. Refreshments of pumpkin pie, cider and coffee were served. There were 12 pre sent and 8 of the 12 who had Jhe same birth year of 1884. Those present were Mr. and Mrs. W. C. Crawford, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Yarnell, Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Lun dell, Mary Swanson, Arvilla Swanson, Lena Lundell, Anne Smouse, and the host and hostess Mr. and Mrs. Dale Ray. Mrs. Ernest McCabe was hos tess of a bridge party at her home on Friday evening. Guests pre sent were Mrs. Robert DeSpain, Mrs. Pete Cannon, Mrs. Delmer Crawford, Mrs. Robert Jepsen, Mrs. Gene Hall, Mrs. Ray Boyce, Mrs. Walter Corley, and the hos tess. Mrs. Robert DeSpain held high score and Mrs. Walter Corley was second high and Mrs. Pete Can non low. Mrs. G. Hermann is spending a few days at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Harlan Crawford of Hermis ton. ' Mr. and Mrs. John Ray of Troutdale stopped at the Dale Rays for a few hours the past week. They were returning from a hunting trip in the mountains they reported there was 12 to 14 inches of snow there. Mrs. James Barnett returned home Saturday from the Pioneer Memorial hospital. Delores Rowel 1 of Pendleton spent Sunday visiting her par ents, Mr. and Mrs. Cleo Drake and her son Mike Rowell. Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Peterson returned this weekend from their honeymoon. They traveled to Ida ho and Montana. They are now at home in Heppner. Mr. and Mrs. Henry baker re turned Sunday from a months trip to Europe. Mrs. Carl Bergstrom is in the Pioneer Memorial hospital in Heppner recovering from major surgery. Mr, and Mrs. Raymond Hoff man and son Bruce of Salem visi ted at the Leo Crabtree's over the weekend. Mrs. Leo Crabtree went to Salem last week and Mrs. Hattie Crabtree returned with her and spent the week at the Leo Crab tree's. She is now staying at the Archie Munkers home in Lexing ton. Mr. and Mrs. Carl Grassl of Walla Walla spent Sunday at the Cecil Thome's. Mrs. Grassi is a sister of Mrs. Thome. Mr. and Mrs. Ray Boyce and children spent Sunday in Condon visiting with Mr. and Mrs. Milton Boyce. Mrs. Van Hubbard and Mrs. Harvey Smith were shopping in Pendleton one day last week. Ruby Ann Rietmann and Art Marsh of Pendleton were week end guests at the Victor Riet mann. Mr. and Mrs. Donald Peterson and children went to Portland on Sunday. Mr. Peterson will re turn home today but Mrs. Peter son and children will remain for a weeks visit with her parents. A Hallowe'en party was held at the Paul Pettyjohn home on Hallowe'en eve with Diane Petty john as hostess. The invited guests were members of the 6th and 7th grades. Games were played and dancing enjoyed by all. Mrs. Paul Pettyjohn and Mrs. Lloyd Rice served refresh ments of Hot Dogs and cider. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Miller spent the weekend in Portland. Mr. and Mrs. Van Hubbard were in Pendleton Wednesday and Thursday on business. Mrs. Francis Connor and son visited her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Van Hubbard recently. The H. E. C. club cleared ap proximately $70 at the food sale on Friday. The money will go toward painting the grange hall. The hall is being painted by Les Brannon of Heppner. Mr. and Mrs. Marion Palmer and Lee and Mary Ann Jensen1 were in Pendleton on Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. Garland Swan son report that their son Denny is playing the cornet in the R. O. T. C. band at the University of Portland. The Hallowe'en party at the cafetorium was reported to be a howling success. The high school and the eighth grade room rep resentatives were the hostesses The homemaking class under the direction of Mrs. Elmer Schmidt did the decorating of the cafetor ium. Everyone was dressed in costume. Those winning prizes were Keith Rea, Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Drake, and Linda Helm- bigner. Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Vosberg of Hood River were weekend guests of Mr. and Mrs. Lavern Hams. Mr. and Mrs. Lavern Hams and family were Sunday guests of Mr. and Mrs. James Hams at Hardman. Janet Howton spent a few days last week visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. L. L. Howton. Mr. and Mrs. Henry Ruud of Marwayne Alberta, Canada and Mr. and Mrs. Clqude Devine of North Bonneville, Washington visited with Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Heliker on Monday. Mrs. Ruud is the daughter of Claude Devine. Dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Lundell on Sunday were Mr. and Mrs. Algott Lundell and Mrs. Arvilla Swanson. A bridal shower was given for Mrs. Ernest Drake at the Com munity church basement. She received many lovely and useful gifts. Refreshments were served by the hostess which were the Senior class members mothers. Mr .and Mrs. Harry O'Donnell, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Healy and daughters and Mrs. Annie Healy were dinner guests on Sunday of Mr. and Mrs. Ted Palmateer. Patti Jean Holt remained for a weeks visit at the Palmateer home. Dr. Betty Niellson was guest speaker at the union missionary meeting at the Valby Lutheran church on Sunday. Among those attending from lone were Mrs. Walter Dobyns, Mrs. Ernest Lun dell, Mrs. Mary Swanson, Mrs. Dale Ray, Mrs. Arvila Swanson, Mr. and Mrs. Fredrick Martin and family, Mrs, Markham Baker and Mardine, Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Heliker, Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Lun dell, and Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Smouse. A large congregation gathered on Sunday for the dedication of the new organ at the Community church. Everyone enjoyed the playing of Mrs. Harris. The solos played not only displayed the ability of the organist, the wide selection brought out the versatil ity of the organ. The church was well filled, and everyone was most appreciative. After the ser vice there was an enjoyable coffee hour with Mrs. Lloyd How ton and Mrs. Raymond Lundell as co-hostesses. Dates to remember: Nov. 11 Annual Grain Grow ers meeting and dinner at 12:00. Dec. 10 Three Links club food sale and bazaar. Mrs. Frank Engleman and son Joel motored to Portland Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. P. W. Mahoney were dinner guests at the Ver ner Troedson home Friday even ing. New books in the library are Davy Crockett by Stewart Hoi brook; The Last Temptation by Joseph Viertel; The Far Journey by Erdman; Starship Through Space by Lee Coney; The Fifteen Weeks, by Joseph M. Jones. Guests of Mr. and Mrs. Earl McKinney one evening last week were Mr. and Mrs. Harold Dob byns, Mr. and Mrs. Oral Wright and daughter, Gary Tullls, Larry Groves, Leann and Marvin Pad berg and Mr. and Mrs. Marlon Palmer. A discussion was had on putting TV to their houses on Rhea Creek. The home extension held their meeting at the Masonic hall on Thursday. There were seventeen present. Mrs. Roland Bergstrom and Mrs. Loren Leathers were the leaders on the project of care of the hair. Mrs. Louis Carlson explained how the program for the next year will be planned and that there would be a sug gestion box at each meeting for anyone wishing to make sugges tions.
