THE IDEAL SCHOOL BOARD MEMBER Has a heart of gold, a mind of . steel and a nervous system of elastic. Can negotiate between the horse and buggy and space ship schools of education without splitting the child's personality. NATIONAL ASSEMBLY On September 28th at 3:00 a puppet show, "Miniature in Re view" was presented to the stu dents of lone, by Mr. and Mrs. Eagle, who have been in the show business for 37 years. They have had their own show for 16 years, and have toured all over the U. S. At one time they toured for 65 weeks without a break. They have been in Hollywood all summer where they have been working at the CBS studio making their own recordings which they will use on their show this season. Mr. Eagle makes all the pup pets of wood and also does the painting, while Mrs. Eagle makes the puppets wardrobes. For their tours they use 15 dif ferent puppets. A few of them are: -Ballet dancer, pianist and op era soloist, beboper's, clown on a flying trapeze, Frank Sinatra, clown doing a song and dance act, acrobatic. Both grade and high school students enjoyed the forty-five minute show, which was very colorful and entertaining. Our next National Assembly will be December 8 at 11:00 and we hope more parents will come and see it, because each one is very interesting and are of edu cational value, also the young children will enjoy it. AMERICAN PROBLEMS Our American Problems class heard from Heppner high school that a question was brought up in Social Ec. to "find the day of the week that George Wash ington was inaugurated. Mrs. Har old Sherer was co-hostess. Those helping with the gifts were Mrs, Harold Sherer and Mrs. Milton Morgan. Those present were Mrs. Victor Rietmann, Mrs. David Rietmann, Mrs. Edmund Bristow, Mrs. Earl McCabe, Mrs Paul Pettyjohn, Mrs. Cecil Thome, Mrs. Delbert Emert, Mrs. Donald Heli ker, Mrs. Elmer Palmer, Mrs. Wallace Matthews, Mrs. Ray mond Lundell, Mrs. Milton Mor gan, Mrs. Charles Carlson, Mrs. Harold Dobyns, Mrs. Dale Ray, mington and the hostess Mrs. Mary Ann Jensen, Mrs. John Ar Harold Sherer and Mrs. Marlon Palmer. Mrs. Carl Feldman and her daughter Mrs. Neil Sherman of bunnyvnie, California, were guests of Mr. and Mrs. Louis Hal vorsen recently. An old acquaintance of many years, Dr. C. H. Law who is mayor of Amity, with his son Lyle Bar more of Portland, visited Mrs. Grace Ware last week. DEER SEASON ON Some of our boys of I.H.S. were very fortunate in getting their buck the first of deer season. They are: Leland McKinney, a 2 point; Clyde Ritchie, a 2 point: Jim Pryse, a 3 point. We hope everybody has as good luck as these boys. We are all sorry to see "John ny" Bryson leave us, for he has been employed here for 11 years. Johnny first started by driving bus and previously he has been janitor of our new school build ing. He also helped plant the first lawn and later had charge of the grounds. "Johnny" wants to say "thanks kids, for being so good to me." Dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Milton Morgan Tuesday evening were Mr. and Mrs. John Arming ton, Mr. and Mrs. Dale Ray, Mr. and Mrs. Marion Palmer and Lee and Mary Ann Jensen. Mr. and Mrs. Donald Ball and family have moved into the Claude Riley house on Third street. Mrs. Delmar Crawford gave a birthday party Oct. 1 in honor of her daughter Anita's thid birth day. Those present were Ricky Barnett, Johnnie McCabe, Teresa Stefani, Terry O'Connor, Terry and Cathy Cannon, Bonnie Kay Akers, Bonnie Jean Morgan, Jan ice Snider, Kevin and Katrina Bristow, Kathy Holtz, Deborah Klncaid, Sherry Baker, David and Johnnie Hall, Mark and Michelle Miller, Linda Pettyjohn, Marlene Crawfod and Marilyn Morga.n A going away party was given for Marlene Griffen who Is mov ing to Heppner, on Friday eve ning at the Garland Swanson home. Most all of the seventh grade students were present. A scarf was presented to Marlene from the class with all their names autographed on it. Games were played and refreshments served afterwards. Milton Morgan, Delmar Craw ford, Edmund Bristow and Lloyd Morgan attended the football game in Portland Saturday night. Mr. and Mrs. Merle Baker and family spent Sundav in Portland. While they were there they vis ited Mr. Bakers grandmother and Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Carlson and family. Guest of Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Ekstrom this week-end were Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Ekstrom Jr. and family of The Dalles, and Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Ekstrom and daughters of Warrenton. Mr. and Mrs. Holmes Gabbart and granddaughter Cindy Mey ers were guests of Mr. and Mrs. Wallace Matthews this weekend. Noel Dobyns, Roy Lindstrom. Walt Dobyns, Garland Swanson, Elmo McMillian, Denny Swan son and Norman Swanson were all hunting in the mountains this weekend. Denny and Norman Swanson returned to town Sun day. Mrs. Gotfrled Hermann was in Portland this weekend visiting a friend Mrs. Herman Majewske, who is here from Germany visit ing her sister in Portland.
