ADVENTIST CHURCH SCENE OF CROSS-HUSTON WEDDING A Sunday afternoon wedding at the Seventh-Day Adventist church united Berneice Mae Huston, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Orlin Huston, Heppner to Mr. Donald Ray Cross, Arlington, son of Mr. and Mrs.- Roy Cross, Aloha, Ore gon. .Mr. J. N. Brown, pastor of the Seventh -Day Adventist church at Hermiston, performed the cere mony. The bride, given in marriage by her father was dressed in a bal lerina length gown of white satin with net overlay and fitted lace bodice with lace bolero. Her fin gertip veil of net was held in place with a headdress of orange blossoms and lace matching the bodice. She carried a white or chid with ivy on a white prayer book. The matron of honor, Mrs. Lyle Cox, sister of the bride, wore a light green ballerina length dress with fitted lace bodice and bo lero with a green satin skirt with net overlay. She carried a shower bouquet of pink gladioli. Candle lighters were Mrs. Cy Flack, Kla math Falls and Mrs. Dick Feller, Hermiston. Mrs. Flack's gown was a pink ballerina length dress with net overskirt embroidered in white flowers and pink net stole. Mrs. Feller was similarly attired in green. They both wore wrist corsages of white roses encircled with pink bouvardia. The bride's mother wore a navy blue silk dress with red polka dots and white trim and carried matching accessories. The mother of the groom was also dressed in navy blue and white with match ing accessories. The best man was Laverne Cross of Aloha, brother of the groom and ushers were Lionel Huston, brother of the bride, Heppner and Harold Hadley, of Arlington. The church was effectively de corated with baskets of white gladioli and hydrangas and white satin pew bows. Mrs. Bob Bliss sang "At Dawn ing," accompanied by Mrs. J. O. Turner at the organ and Mr. Robert Becker sang 'The Wed ding Prayer". Following the wedding, a recep tion was held at the home of Dr. and Mrs. Clifford Wagner where the newly married pair received their guests in front of a fireplace decorated with white bells, satin streamers and bows. Mrs. James Prock poured the punch and Mrs. Oma Cox cut the three-tiered cake. Mrs. Joan Mil ler was guest book hostess and Mrs. Cy Flack and Mrs. Dick Fel ler were in charge of the gifts. Out of town guests were Mr. and Mrs. Roy Cross, Laverne Cross, Mr. and Mrs. Donald Lin nell, Mrs. Anna Romine, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Romine, Mr. and Mrs. Judge Bullock, Mr. and Mrs. H. S. Hadley, Mrs. Les Conboy, Mr. and Mrs. Tom Doherty, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Merritt, Mr. and Mrs. J. N. Brown, Mr. and Mrs. Noble Hamp ton, Toby Clark and Janey Schaf feld. The bride, a graduate of Hepp ner high school, attended Eastern Oregon College of Education, La Grande and took Nurses training at St Elizabeth's Hospital in Yakima. The groom is a gradu ate of Arlington high school. Following a wedding trip, the couple will be at home in Arling ton. Saturday For Wedding Mr. and Mrs. Herman Green, Mr. and Mrs. Cornet Green and families and Mrs. Alex Green will leave Saturday for Gresham to attend the wedding of Miss Do lores Green, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wallace Green of. Gresham to Frank Charles Bartholomew Jr. son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Barth olomew, of Gresham. The bride-to be is the granddaughter of Mrs. Alex Green. Margaret, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Herman Green and Mary Elizabeth McCaleb, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Omer McCaleb of Portland, cousins of the bride are to be flower girls and Mary Ruth Green will be a bridesmaid. The wedding will take place Sunday afternoon at the Gres ham Methodist church. Methodist Women Plann Dinner at Fair A joint re-organization neet in? of the Oueen Esther Circle and the Young Women's Circle of the Women's Christian Service Society of the Methodist church was held at the Whitmer w ngnt hnnw Wednesday evening of last week. It was decided to serve dinner at the fair grounds on Saturday during the rodeo. Mrs. Charles Gomillion is general chairman. The Alpha Circle, W. S. C. S. met at the home of Mrs. K. R. Carpen ter for the first meeting of the season. Suzanna Wesley Circle met at the home of Mrs, Alfred Troedson, Wednesday afternoon. Miss Opal Briggs gave the program on read ing of the Bible and prayer. , . o- Wedding Date Set Patricia Peck By Mr. and Mrs. Harold Peck an nounce the wedding date of their daughter Patricia to Leland Hardy, son of Mr. and Mrs. Herb Hardy of La Grande, Ore., on Friday, September 2, at 7 p. m. at the Heppner Christian church. Birthday Dinner Held At Mountain Home A birthday dinner was held Sunday August 21 in the moun tains at the Oren McDaniel ranch, in honor of Debbie and Reta Mc Daniel. Games were played and re feshments ware served. N. D. Baileys Attend Family Reunion Mr. and Mrs. N. D. Bailey and Mrs. Bailey's sister, Mrs. Lyda Goens of Heppner returned Mon day from Silverton where seven sisters and one brother held their sixth family reunion August 14th at the City Park in Silverton. Over sixty members of the re spective families attended the affair. Other sisters and husbands Dresent were Mrs. Lottie Shults of Newberg, Mr. and Mrs. George Hodges, Rockaway, Mr. and Mrs. Guy Husbands, Portland, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Halvorson, Kelso, Mrs. Maggie Reynolds,- Newberg and a brother and wife, Mr. and Mrs. Will Sherlock, Richmond, Califor nia. Mrs. Bailey's parents and the older children came to Silverton in 1906 from Wisconsin. Renigers Bridge Club Meets At Hall Home The Renigers Club played bridge Wednesday evening of last week at the home of Mrs. Gene Hall on Rhea Crook. Other members present were Mrs. Jack Marshall, Mrs. La Verne Van Marter, Mrs. Evonne Gam mell, Mrs. Alex Thompson, Mrs. Allen Case, Mrs. James Norene, Mrs. William Labhart, Mrs. Brad ley Fancher, Mrs. Tom Wilson and Mrs. Larry Dowen. Mrs. Marshall had high score, Mrs. Van Marter second and Mrs. Gammell was low. Refreshments were served at the end of the evening. Marilyn Pettyjohn Given Farewell Party Marilvn Pettyjohn was compli mented with a farewell party following a meeting or the class Ambassadors croup of the As sembly of God church, Tuesday night at the church. Mrs. Willis Geyer an'd Fern Graves were in charge of the party at which there were about 25 guests present. They present ed the guest of honor with a gift from the group. Miss Pettyjohn leaves the end of August for Mollala, Oregon where she will enter her junior year in high school and make her home with Rev. and Mrs. Nels Fast. Darlene Connor Now Mrs. Ernest Drake Miss Darlene Connor, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Connor of Heppner and Ernest Drake, son of Mr. and Mrs. Cleo Drake of lone, were married at Boise, Idaho last week. They plan to make their home in lone. Boardman Girl Sets Wedding Date Mr. and, Mrs. Elvin Ely an nounce the engagement of their daughter, Ora, to Newell Vaught, of Richland, Wash. The wedding will be an event of Sept. 3 at the Boardman Community church. Friends are invited. There will be a reception at the Ely home fol lowing the ceremony. McMurdo. A reception was held for them Wednesday evening at the parish hall, All Saints Episcopal church of which Rev. Blunt is a former rector. Refreshments were served by Mrs. Clarence Rosewall, Mrs. Floyd Adams and Mrs. Richard Wells. HEC of Rhea Creek Meets Thursday The Home Economics Club of the Rhea Creek Grange met last Thursday afternoon at the home of Mrs. John Bergstrom to discuss foods and booths for the fair.
