Heppner Gazette Times, Thursday, July 7, 1 955 Page 3 Sunday Schools Hold Mountain Picnic Over 4th By Echo Palmateer A large crowd attended the Valby Lutheran of Gooseberry and the Hope Lutheran of Hepp ner Sunday schools and church picnic at the Cutsforth camp in the mountains Sunday July 3. A few went up for breakfast. A picnic dinner was served at noon. In the afternoon baseball and horse shoes were enjoyed. ; Guests over the weekend at the Carl Bergstrom home were Mr, and Mrs. Roy Janin of Portland and Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Berg Strom and family of Eugene. The Pete Janins visited at the A. A. Stefani home. Relatives over Fourth at the Fredrick Martin home were Mr, and Mrs. A. T. Martin and daugh ter, Mamie of West Linn, Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Mason and family of Modesto, Calif.; Mr. and Mrs, John D. Martin and family of Maupin; and Mr. and Mrs. Harold Grater and family of Ashwood. Relatives at the A. E. Stefani home over the weekend were Mrs. Stefani, Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Turk and family and Mr. and Mrs. John Stefani all of Canby. Mrs. Bernice Smith of Ellens berg, Wash., spent the weekend with her niece, Mrs. Fannie Grif fith The LeRoy Ellis' were visitors over the weekend at the James Botts home. Pfc and Mrs. Clyde Crawford ind son of Richland, Wash., were visitors here over the 4th. Mr. and Mrs. Milton Morgan and Arthur Crawford left Monday for New York by plane. They will spend a few days in New York and then go to Philadelphia where they will attend the Na tional Elks convention. Mr. and Mrs. Carl Cropp and family and Allen Mason of Scio spent the weekend with Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Ball and other rela tives. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Lundell of Milwaukie were visitors here over the Fourth. I Mrs. Ida Coleman and Mrs. Echo Palmateer made a trip to Kennewick and Pasco, Wash, on Sunday. They stopped at the R. S. Johnson home in Pasco. Gary Morgan, son of Mr. and Mrs. Milton Morgan, received bruises and skin abrasions when he fell from his bicycle one day last week. A large crowd enjoyed the fine dsplay of fireworks on the ath letic field Saturday evening, July 2 which was sponsored by the American Legion post. Several from here attended Rodeos the Fourth and many went to the mountains on pic nics. Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Crum and , family attended the Rinehart re union in Condon Friday June J4. The reunion was held over that weekend and around 125 relatives were present They came from Texas, California, Washington and Oregon. The Rineharts are relatives of Mr. Crum. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Jepsen are the parents of a son born July 2 at the Pioneer Memorial hos pital in Heppner. Weight 8 lbs. and 2 oz. Mr. and Mrs. Walter Jepsen of lone and Mr. and Mrs. C. L. Lieuallen of Pendleton are the grandparents and Mr. and Mrs. Jack Hynd of Pendleton and Mr. and Mrs. Joe Burns of Lu- cerene, Calif., are the great grand parents. Miss Barbara Smith of Hermosa Beach, Calif., is spending her va cation with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Dixon Smith. She is a teacher at Hermosa Beach. Pattv Rvan of The Dalles is visiting at the home of her uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Rice. Lona White and Dianna Pettyjohn were visitors at the Rice home a couple of days last week. Mrs. Blanche Scheelar of Salem is visiting at the home of her daughter and family, Mr. and Mrs. Leo Crabtree. Weekend guests at the E. W. Bristow home were Mrs. John Bristow of Corvallis and Alan Brown of Lakeview. Mrs. Franklin Ely spent the weekend at her home. She is at tending summer school at Port land State. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Swenson and daughters of Walla Walla were visitors at the Ernest Mc- Cabe home last week. Mrs. Hershal Townsend gave a dinner Friday evening July 1 in honor of Mr. Townsend's birth day. Guests were Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Halvorsen and family. Dates to remember: July 12 Garden club tour be ginning at the city park at 2 p. m. and ending at the O. L. Lundell home. July 13 Maranatha club meet ing, at the home of Mrs. Echo Palmateer. July 15 H. E. C. of Willows grange at the grange hall in the afternoon. There will be no grange meetings during July and August. Miss Janet Marquardt of Port land spent the weekend with Mr. and Mrs. La Verne Hams. Grant Rigby, shop instructor in the lone school spent two weeks at Summer school at Oregon State in Corvallis. LOYAL PARKER tist church in Hood River Sunday June 25. The bride is a niece of Mr. Crum. At the reception Mrs. Crum poured the coffee and Bon nie Crum had charge of the gifts. Mrs. Gordon White went to Port land and Forest Grove last week and brought her son Gerry, home. Gerry has, been ill with an ear infection. Jack Crum, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Crum, is attending Pine low, a Nazarene camp near Spo kane this weekend.He was ac companied by his cousin, Chuck Straham of Arlington. Mr. and Mrs. Epley and son of Condon also went to the camp. Mr. and Mrs. Gordon White re ports that their son, Charles of Portland is conducting a sales clinic for the View Master through Central America and the west coast of South America. While in Nicaragua he was the guest of the president there. Walter Dobyns went to Eu gene last week to visit his daugh ter and family, Mr., and Mrs. Tad Hardestry. Mrs. Dobyns has been there for some time. The Har destys have recently moved from Roseburg to Eugene. Mr. and Mrs. Adon Hamlett and children left Friday of last week for Palo Alto, Calif., where they will visit relatives. Mrs. Vela Eubanks left last week for her home in Portland after visiting relatives here. 0. L. Lundell just completed a picnic table for the Pomona grange. The table was placed in the Cutsforth camp on Herren Creek in the mountains. Mrs. Esther Wilson was a pa tient in the hospital in Heppner last week. Harry Yarnell underwent sur gery at The Dalles hospital Fri day of last week. He is reported to be getting along satisfactorily. While Mrs. Yarnell and son Alton has been with him, her grand daughter, Robin Yarnell, was a guest of the Donald Helikers. At the meeting of Locust chap ter of the Eastern Star Tuesday evening June 28 an addenda was given for Lewis Halvorsen, Mrs. Walter Corley and Mrs. Sam Mc Millan. Mr. Halvorsen was as sistant Grand Sentinel, and Mrs. Lexington News By Delpha Jones Pfc. David Buchanan who is Corley was a Grand Page at the Grand Chapter meeting in Port land in June. Mrs. McMillan has moved to Milwaukie. Out of town members at the meeting were Mr. and Mrs. Bert Mason and Mr. and Mrs. Sam McMillan of Milwau kie. Refreshments were served after the meeting by Mrs. E. R. Lundell, Mrs. Geo Drake and Mrs. Lloyd Morgan. I stationed in Utah was a 4th of July guest at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Buchanan. Those who visited at Peterson Rock Gardens on July third were Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Papineau, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Papineau and children, Mr. and Mrs. Archie Nichols and son Earl, and Mrs. Ina Nichols. Guests over the 4th of July holidays at the Frank Robinson home was Mrs. Robinson's bro ther and wife, Mr. and Mrs. Ken neth Morehead of Goldendale, Wash. Mr. and Mrs. Wilbur Steagall and children Barbara and Jim mie were visitors In Kinzua on Monday. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Buchanan of Portland are the proud parent of a baby daughter born in that city on July 4th. She is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Buchanan of this city. Miss Mary Criscera of Portland is visiting at the Bertha Hunt home. Miss Pat Majeske returned to her home Friday evening from a vacation spent in the Hawaian Islands.
