(GT Photo) SOROPTIMIST CLUB INSTALLS NEW OFFICERS AND INITIATES THREE Jean Marie Graham Holds Grand Office In Rainbow Girls The 29th Grand Session of Or der of Rainbow for Girls in Ore gon at McMinnville June 22 through June 24, was attended by about 1500 girls. RepresDnt ing Ruth Assembly of Heppner were Joan Wright, worthy advisor; Virginia Andresen, worthy asso ciate advisor; Barbara Warren hope and Jean Marie Graham grand representative to the State of 'Georgia. They were accom panied by. Mrs. Claude Graham of "the advisory board and Mrs. ;Mary Van Stevens. On Monday afternoon, the new grand officers of the Grand As sembly of Oregon revealed Jean Marie Graham of Ruth Assembly No. 50 as Grand Service for 1955 56. Following the Assembly, the Heppner girls went to Seaside and spent a day with the Clar ence Warrens who were vacation ing there. Dr. Margaret Morris, La Grande was installing officer for the an , nual installation banquet of the ' Soroptimist club, held Saturday evening at the parish hall of the Episcopal church. Officers installed were presi dent, Mrs. E. E. Gonty; vice presi dent, Mrs. Robert Penland; re cording secretary, Mrs. Harold Sanders; corresponding secretary, Mrs. Philip Blakney; treasurer, Mrs. Grace Nickerson; directors, Miss Leta Humphreys and Mrs. Loyal Parker and regional repre sentative, Mrs. W. 0. George. After the installation ceremony Mrs. Grace Nickerson presented Mrs. W. C. Collins, out going president, with a past president's pin and Mrs. Collins in turn pre sented Mrs. Gonty the president's Pin- Jack Edmondson, representing the American Legion, led the group in the salute to the flag. Mayor Mary Van Stevens wel comed the guests and Mrs. Vin cent Thomas, president of the La Grande club, gave the response. During the business meet ing plans were made for the an nual picnic to be held Sunday July 31 at Cutsforth's on Herren creek. All members and their families are invited to attend. Following the meeting televi sion was viewed and the door prize was received by Mrs. Harold Castor. Refreshments were served by Mrs. Huston. Mrs. Emma Jones and Mrs. Roy Neill. o Mrs. Sowell Hostess For Dessert-Bridge Mrs. William Sowell entertain ed with a dessert bridge party on Tuesday evening. Those playing were Mrs. Fred Sanders, Mrs. Harry O'Donnell, Jr., Mrs. Paul Koenig, Mrs. Jack Angel, Mrs. Eddie Gunderson, Mrs. Lester Wyman, and Mrs. Pat O'Brien. Mrs. Koenig won first prize and Mrs. O'Brien was second. Mrs. Riley spoke briefly on the life and education of Mrs. Kajiya and then introduced the singer. Mrs. Collins presided at the ini tiation ceremonies for three new members of the Heppner club, Mrs. James Hager, Mrs. Roice Fulleton and Mrs. Frank Hamlin. Mrs. George received the award for the member with the most original means of earning her share of the scholarship fund. Mrs. Collins and Mrs. Parker re ceived awards for attendance, each had missed only one meet ing during the year. Mrs. Gonty gave a brief talk accepting her position as the new president and she adjourned the meeting. Out of town guests .were Miss Nelle Grimmett, Dr. Martha Ad die, Mr. and Mrs. Sam Bailie, Mrs. Vincent Thomas, Dr. Mar garet Morris, Miss Stella Bloch, Mrs. Frank Wylde, Miss Ann Johnson all of La Grande and Mr. and Mrs. Silas Bailie of Con nell, Washington. Jones; Kit and David George; Kit and Connie Anderson; Dennis, Di ane, and Linda Warren; Pianna and Becky Jo Fulleton; Mrs. Mar celle Jones, Mrs. Milton Derrick, Mrs. Richard McElligott and Mrs. William Heath. The guests received birthday favors and enjoyed a peanut hunt, and other games. Birthday cake and ice cream were served. Elks Picnic Held At Forest Park Sunday Over 200 Elks and their famil ies attended the annual Elks pic nic at Cutsforth Forest park on Herren Creek Sunday. Baseball and horseshoe games were en joyed following a potluck dinner. The entertainment committee in charge of the event included Glen Ward, chairman, Pat O' Brien, Rollo Crawford, Jack Ed mundson, Paul Tews, Lowell Gribble and Everett Keithley. Janice Beamer Quackenbush. and Phyllis in marriage. She wore a tradl tional white wedding dress of net and lace, and a veil of fingertip length, held in place with a tiara of orange blossoms. The bride carried a white Bible, topped with a white orchid. Matron of honor was Mrs. Helen Fulps, sister of the bride, who wore pale blue taffeta with net overskirt and carried a bou quet of rose colored Ester Reed daisies. Bridesmaids were Mrs. Arthur Gates, sister of the bride, and Mrs. Ralph V. Sebern, Jr., sister-in-law, wearing rose taffeta with net overskirt, and carrying blue Ester Reed daisies. Arthur L. Gates, brother-in-law of the bride, served as best man for Mr. Talus. Ushers were Robert Fulps and Duane Fulps Jr., nep hews of the bride. For her daughter's wedding Mrs. Sebern wore a dress of orchid crepe with white accessories and an orchid corsage. Mrs. Talus wore aqua nylon with an orchid corsage. A reception in the church din ing room followed the ceremony. The couple left immediately for a wedding trip to Sun Valley, Ida ho. The bride wore a light beige dress with brown accessories and her wedding orchid for traveling. Mrs. Talus taught in the Hepp ner schools last year. o L Mrs. Charles Hepner of Port land was a weekend guest at the home of her brother, and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Bed ford. Mrs. Beatrice Bedford, mo ther of Mr. Bedford and Mrs. Hep ner returned to Portland with her. Soward. Children Guests of The Degree of Honor The Degree of Honor met Tues day evening June 14 at the Le gion hall. Children of the members were guests. Following the business meeting, Shirley Nash played two piano solos. Games were played and re freshments were served by Mrs. Martha King and Mrs. Evelyn Warren. Happy 4th of July!
