Mrs. Albert Partlow, Irri gon accompanied him on the piano. His program Included negro spirituals, "David and Go liath", "I'm Gwine to Shout", "Joshua Fit the Battle of Jericho". Others were "Love Came A Knocking", "Overshadowed", "It Took a Miracle", "No Tears in the Sky", "If I gained the World", "Oh. What a Day", 'The Lord's Prayer", and "There is a Balm In Gilead".. Mr. Jackson, who has been In New York productions with John Charles Thomas, Dorothy Klrsten, Tyrone Power and others, will be at the Cannon Beach Bible con ference this summer following his concert tour. Mrs. Evangeline McNeill, direc tor at Cannon Beach, showed a movie of the Cannon Beach Bible conference of last summer pre ceding the concert A large crowd attended the concert, including several from out of town, among them Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Frye and Mr. and Mrs. Al LaMotte from Long Creek. Mrs. McNeill was guest speaker at the church Sunday morning, and Mr. Jackson also sang two numbers at the service. Mr. and Mrs. Harold Rash are the parents of a daughter born June 3 at Good Shepherd hospi tal in Hermiston. She weighed nine pounds, and has beend named Diane Kay. Pendleton, Oregon Phone 338 Monday with an enrollment of 60, with more expected later in the week. Bible school at the Lutheran church under the leadership of the Rev. H. C. Schulze, Hermis ton, finished the first week last Friday with an enrollment of 38. Teachers are Mrs. H. C. Schulze, Mrs. Roy Partlow, Mrs. Henry Gantenbein, Mrs. Hugh Brown, and Mrs. John Partlow, who is in charge of the Handicraft class. The school will hold a program Friday night. Mrs. Earl Briggs, master of Greenfield grange, left Sunday for Klamath Falls to attend the session of state grange. Mr. and Mrs. Russell Miller went to La Grande last Friday to attend graduation exercises at E .0. C. E. Their daughter, Grace, was among the graduates, having finished a two year course in Medical-Dental Asso ciate in Science, TSgt. and Mrs. Thurman John son and children Diana and Dale returned home Monday from a months visit with relatives in Portsmouth and Londonderry, N. H., Johnson's mother, Mrs. Mild red Johnson, came home with them for a month's visit. The temperature reached 92 here Monday, making it the warmest so far this season. Mrs. Grace Tyler, Mrs. Joe Yusckat and two sons, and Del bert and Lawrence Tyler, Port land, were Sunday visitors at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Elvln Ely. Mrs. Blanche Barlow, Heppner, visited at the home of her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Claud Coats, Sunday. She was accompanied by her sis ter, Mrs. Alma Gilliam, Portland, who is visiting her. Mrs. Lulu Stevens, Portland, is visiting at the home of her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Zivney. Mr. and Mrs. A. R. Fortner took Mrs. Fortner's father, Fred Lucas, to Wlshram, Wash., Sun day to visit his sister, Mrs. Mary Crawford. From there he will return to his home at North Bend, Wash. Mrs. Maude Moore has return ed home from a month's visit at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Brandon at Ontario. Mrs. Laura Allen has returned home after a two month's trip visiting relatives in Nebraska, Kansas and South Dakota. On her way home she also visited in Wyoming. Recent visitors at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ray Brown were their sons-in-law and daughters, Mr, and Mrs. Eldon Wilson, Baker, and Mr. and Mrs. Fred Wolcott, Kennewlck, Wash. Mr. and Mrs. Glen Cochran, of Wilsonville, were overnight visi tors at the home of Cochran's brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. LeRoy Fussell, last week. Cecil Hamilton, Carol Hamil ton, Delbert Carpenter and Oscar Veelle have all gone to Belling ham, Wash., to work for the summer. Sharon Fussell went to Port land where she will seek employ ment for the summer. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Anderegg and daughter Barbara are at their summer home at Longview, Wash. The Ladies Aid society of the Community church met at the church on Wednesday afternoo June 1, with 11 members present. Hostesses were Mrs. Charles Dil-' Ion and Mrs. Frank Marlow. Plans were discussed for getting new chairs for the church base ment. Mrs. Elvin Ely had charge of the spiritual program. Mr. and Mrs. Willis Pieratt and sons Gary and Jackie, Long, Beach, Calif., visited at the home of Mrs. Pieratt's parents, Mr. and Mrs. I. T. Pearson, last week. They left for home Sunday. Mrs. Mary Forthman, Dallas Forthman and daughter Wanda, went to Clarkston, Wash., over the weekend. Dinner guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Tim Rippee Sunday were Mr. and Mrs. Ike Graham and sons Marvin and Butch, Mrs. Nola Casey and daughter Cathy all of Selah, Wash. Recent visitors at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Max Vannoy were Vannoy's brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. George Vannoy and Mrs. Ralph Blosser, Janes ville, Calif., Mrs. William Carey, and Mr. and Mrs. John Collins, Portland; Mr. and Mrs. Don Rog ers and daughters Peggy and Patty, Tacoma, Wash.; Mr. and Mrs. Tom Pace, Bonneville; and Mr .and Mrs, Jenkins, Lincoln, Nebr. Mrs. A. R. Fortner entertained at dinner in honor of her father, Fred Lucas, of North Bend, Wash., last week. Present were Mr. and Mrs. Charles Anderegg and daughter Barbara, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Zivney and son Roger, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Brown and Mr. and Mrs. Earl Briggs. Mrs. Lowell Shattuck who has been employed at Goldendale, Wash., for several months, has returned to her home here. Janie Califf, Hood River, and Shirley Earwood left last week for Tucson, Arizona to visit at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Bill Califf. Mr. and Mrs. E. Hiatt, Milton- Freewater, visited recently at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Rands. Other visitors for several days lone News t Mr. and Mrs. Dale Ray an nounced that their daughter, (Miss Gladys Brashers and John ' Armington were recently married in Los Angeles. They are mak- i ing their home there. The Daily vacation Bible school ended Friday June 10 with a picnic in the city park and a program at the Community church Friday evening. The pro gram consisted of a class demon stration by the beginners with Mrs. Wilfred McKay as their teacher; songs by the primary class with Mrs. Charles O'Connor as their teacher; songs and a skit by the juniors with Mrs. Ray Barnett as teacher. Jean Martin gave a report on the school. There was an average attendance of 35. Certificates were given out, and a display of handiwork was shown. Others assisting in the school were Jean Martin, Bonnie Crum, Sharon Cutsforth, Dorothy Dobyns, Rev. Wilfred McKay and Rev. Alfred Shirley. Mr. and Mrs. Rodney Crawford, Jr., and daughters of Portland are visiting her mother Mrs. Ida Cole man this week. Services were held at the Valby Lutheran church Sunday with the Rev. Ed Svendsen of Corvallis of ficiating. First communion was' held for Gerald and Marilyn Berg- i strom. Rev. Svendsen and sons1 were guests of Mr. andMrs. Oscar 1 Peterson while here. Lloyd Howton underwent an ; operation on his shoulder at the! St. Vincent's hospital in Portland j tnaay, june iu. He injurea nis shoulder in a recent car accident. Mrs. Howton is with him. Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Keene took her mother and sister, Mrs. Eliza beth Campbell and Mrs. Effie Crow back to their home in Brit ish Columbia Saturday, Mr. and Mrs. Loy McFerrin and Mr. and Mrs. Bryce Keene and family were recent visitors in Spokane where they visited the daughter and sister and family, Row ipii Know! E. last Friday, receiving a Bache- lor of Science degree in Elemen-1 tary Education. Mr. and Mrs. Ted Reed. Mr .and Mrs. Leonard Carlson left by plane Sunday for Minnea polis and St Paul, Minn., as delegates from the Valby Luth eran church to the 90th annual Augustana synod convention of the Augastana Lutheran church which is held in the capitol city of Minnesota June 13 to 19. Their son and family, Mr. and Mrs. Clif ford Carlson of Portland are taking care of the farm while they are away. Mr. and Mrs. Dale Ray spent the weekend with relatives In Husum and Lyle, Wash. Mrs. Winnie Zinter and grand daughter, Lois Messenger and Mr. and Mrs. William Zinter were recent visitors in Spokane, Bur bank and Pasco. Work has begun this week on the chancel in the Community church. The work is being done by Paul Westerman of i Milton Freewater. Ernest Drake entered the Junior Olympic games in Portland Sat urday in the shotput. He and Gerry White then went on to Corvallis as delegates to Beaver State. Guests at the Roy Lieuallen home Sunday were her parents, Mr. and Mrs. R. E. Alstott and her sister and brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. John Bray of Hermiston. Guests last week at the Lieual len home were Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Vancel and family of North Powder. He is a cousin of Roy Lieuallen and a principal of the North Powder school. The Lieuallens were Gresham visitors last week. Anna Jepsen is attending Girls' State in Salem this week. Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Holtz and daughter and Mrs. Clarence Holtz attended the wedding of Miss Dorothy Faye and Dick Schlonga in Vancouver, Wash., Friday, June 10. They also took in the Rose Show in Portland. Mr. and Mrs. Berl Akers and Mrs. Wallace were visitors in The Dalles Saturday where Mr. Akers went for medical treatment. The following were appointed on the Public Library board at a meeting Monday. Mrs. Charles O'Connor, president; Mrs. Victor Rietmann, secretary- treasurer; Mrs. Roland Bergstrom, vice president; Mrs. Verner Troedson, Mrs. Fannie Griffith. The Ambassador quartet from the Nazarene College in Nampa, Idaho, sang at the Nazarene Church Wednesday evening of last week. Another member of the party spoke at the meeting. Merritt McKay is at home from a college in Seattle with his par ents, Rev. and Mrs. Wilfred Mc Kay. Mr. and Mrs. Ed Buschke re turned home from Klamath Falls, where they went as delegates to the state Grange Convention. They also visited their daugh ter and family, Mr. and Mrs. Ally Ppck at Lebanon. Thev brought their granddaughters Patricia and Shirley home with them. Mr. and Mrs. Ernest McCabe and son John, attended a high school reunion at Nampa, Ida., over the weekend. Mrs. Annie Healy of Butter Creek visited at the home of her daughter and family, Mr. and Mrs. Ted Palmateer the first of the week. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Reed of Spray visited Monday with Mrs. R. A. Thompson and Mrs. Lennie Louden. Mr. and Mrs. Gene Orwick left Sunday for a weeks visit in Sac ramento, California with his brother and wife, Sgt. and Mrs. Kenneth Orwick. Mrs. Lennie Louden and Mrs. R. A. Thompson have returned from Potlatch, Idaho where they took Sharon and Bobby Bryant for a visit. Diane Schaffitz, daughter of Dr and Mrs. E. K. Schaffitz, visit ed in Cecil at the home of Mr. and Mrs. F. McClintock, the first of this week. Harry Dinges, county assessor, went to Grants Pass last week end to attend the wedding of his granddaughter, Ruth Ann cklin. Mrs. Dinges went to Grants Pass about a week ago.
