jjptMr (iatte mmm Heppner, Oregon, Thursday, June 9, 1955 Grade and High School Decaihlon Held at Picnic By Echo Palmateer In the grade school decathlon contest held at the annual school picnic May 26 there were 7 events lor the girls and 7 events for boys of each grade starting with the 4th grade. A total of 70 events were held and a trophy for the boy and girl with the highest number of points from his or her 7 events. They competed against children of their own grade. Com petition was keen and some sur prising upsets were scored in in dividual events. Sandra Eu banks proved to be a real all around athlete as she won first place in all of her events. Cherly Morrison and Katherine Rea were very keen competition and al most edged Sadra in some of the events. The Seven events were chosen to bring out all around athletic ability. Wayne Hams won the boys trophy in a fine display of abil ity. Jerry Bristow and Gaylord are home from La Grande where they were students at E. O. C. E. Lyle Kincaid is spending his vacation with his mother, Mrs. Ruby Nichols. He has been at tending the Blind school in Salem. Pfc. and Mrs. Clyde Crawford and son of Richland, Wash., spent the weekend here. Lloyd Rice and John Jordan were in charge of the high school decathlon. Mrs. Earl McCabe and Mrs. Harold bherer had charge of the pre school and the 1, 2 and 3 grades. Mrs. William Eagle and sons of Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, are visiting at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Thorne. Mr. and Mrs. David Rietmann and family, Mrs. Etta Bristow and Donald Bristow spent Sun day in Walla Walla where they visited Mrs. Bristow's sister, Mrs. Walter Swensen, who is a patient in a hospital there following an operation on her leg. Harold Riet mann remained in Walla Walla for a longer visit with friends. Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Thorne re turned last wek from Oakesdale, Wash., and Idaho where they visited relatives. Several from here are attend ing the fat stock show in The Dalles this week. Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Tucker and sons of Salem visited his brother and family, Mr. and Mrs. Eldon Tucker Saturday. Norman Botts'of Hermiston is visiting at the John Botts home.
