Pag6 Heppner Gazette Times, Thursday June 2, 1955 Boardman Holds Graduation Rites By Mary Lee Marlow Graduation exercises for the class of 1955 of Boardman high school were held in the gymnas ium Wednesday, May 25, at 8 p. m. Speaker was Clyde Beard, principal of The Dalles high school, whose subject was "Can a Termite Chew." Processional and recessional were played by Mrs. Frank Mar- low. Invocation was by Miss Jean Scott, missionary of Com munity church. Salutatory greet ings was by Carol Hamilton. Miss Zelma Cowan and Miss Jean Scott sang "The Love of God" and "Sweet Will of God." Valedictory address was by Sharon Fussell. Following the speaker's address Ray Anderson, school superinten dent, presented the class advisor, Miss Barbara Love, who in turn presented the class to Willard A. Baker, chairman of the school board, who presented the di plomas to Carol Hamilton, Sharon Graduation exercLses for the eighth grade of Boardman school were held Thursday at 4 p. m. in the gymnasium. Jack C. Flug, county school superintendent, of Heppner, was the speaker. Invo cation was by Miss Zelma Cowan, missionary of Community church. A flute solo, "Autumn Leaves", was played by Edna Hoffman, accompanied by Mrs. John Black burn. Barbara Anderegg played a piano solo, "Starlight Waltz". Henry Zivney, school board direc tor, presented diplomas to six graduates: Nelson Cruthers, Edna Hoffman, Wanda Forthman, Lor elei Hamilton, Barbara Anderegg, and Larry Fussell. Benediction was by Miss Cowan. Following the exercises a ban quet was held in the school cafe teria for members of the seventh and eighth grades and their par ents. Mrs. Effie Miller took top hon ors at the flower show and silver Fussell, Dorothy Taylor, Rose tea given by the Boardman Gar Cassidy, Shirley Wiese and Char-1 den club at the grange hall on lotte Thornhill. Tuesday, May 24, by winning ten ribbons. Many beautiful flowers were shown. Winners were: Plants in bloom, Mrs. Effie Miller, first, second, third; foliage plant, Mrs. Effie Miller, first, second, third. Single Iris, Mrs. Florence Root, first; Mrs. Claude Coats, second and third. Snow balls, Mrs. Elmer Messenger, first; Mrs. Charles Anderegg, second; Mrs. Tim Rippe, third. Tulips, Mrs. Nathan Thorpe, first; Mrs. Elmer Messenger, second. Pansies, Mrs. Arthur Allen, first; Mrs. Zearl Gillespie, second. Col umbine, Mrs. Effie Miller, first; Mrs. Charles Anderegg, second. Lily of the Valley, Mrs. Elmer Messenger, first. Mixed bouquet, Mrs. Hugh Brown, first; Mrs. Ef fie Miller, second; Mrs. Rollin Bishop, third. Flower arrange ment, Mrs. Claud Coats, first; Mrs. Arthur Allen, second; Mrs. Claud Coats, third. In charge of the antique table len, Mrs. Nathan Thorpe and Mrs. Charles Anderegg had charge of flower arrangements. Pouring at the tea table were Mrs. Elmer Messenger, Mrs. Tim Rippee and Mrs. Louise Earwood. Door prizes were won by Mrs. Ronald Black and Mrs. Zearl Gillespie. Bill Coder. Track and basketball, Jerry Peck, Albert Sieber, Jim Thorpe, Martin Shattuck and Bill Aardappel. Basketball, Larry Eades and Ivan Kress. Track, Bud Douthit. Bill Coder was given an award for the most improved as winner of ping pong tourna ment in the seventh and eighth grades. The class presented a skit portraying their prophecy which was read by Miss Barbara Love, their advisor. A novelty reading was given by Bud Douthit, accompanied by the school band. Athletic awards were presented by Marion Morlan, coach, as fol lows: Four letter winners in Athlete of the year. Dick Garner years of age through high school. Theme of the school will be Marching On." Teachers will be Mrs. Lee Harwood, Mrs. Elvin Ely, and Mrs. Bill Crissman in the beginners department; Mrs. Bob Miller, Mrs. Arnin Hug, Mrs. bert Rogers, Bobby Taylor, Bill; Kenneth Earwood, Wanda Hug Getz, Chuck Sargent, Kicnara ; and Marje pottS; in the primary Watts, Larry West, John Wizner and John Partlow. C. L.
