Tuesdays SOROPTIMIST FOR SENIOR CLUB'S ANNUAL TEA GIRLS HELD SUNDAY Senior girls of the Heppner and Lexington high schools and their mothers were guests at the home of Miss Leta Humphreys Sunday afternoon from 2:30 to 4:00 o'clock for the annual tea given by the Soroptimits club. Girls and their mothers pre sent were Patsy Wright and Mrs. Walter wright, Sally Palmer and Mrs. Elmer Palmer, Clarice Hastings and Mrs. Carey Hast ings, Sharon Rill and Mrs. L. H. Rill, Jean Marie Graham and Mrs. Claude Graham, Frances Duran and Mrs. Willjam Duran, Joan Wright and Mrs. Joe Wright, Bar bara Prock and Mrs. Maurice Elder, Helen Sanders and Mrs. Vera Porter, Janet Kendall and Mrs. Earle Kendall of Ukiah, Mary Ruth Green and Mrs. Cor- nett Green, Beverly Nolan and Mrs. Millard Nolan of Lexington. Those not able to attend were Darlene Baker, Pat Davis Graves, and Lillian Elde. The program consisted of a talk by Miss Marguarite Glavey, two vocal solos by Mrs. E. J. Dob bie and two violin solos by Mrs. Tom Wilson accompanied by Mrs. Howard Reed and a Hawaiian dance by Cathy Smith. Mrs. Lucille Owens accompan ied Mrs. Dobbie and played in cidental music during the afternoon. Other guests were Mrs. James Popham, Mrs. L. L. Robbins, Miss Donna Sebern and Mrs. Orville Smith. Mrs. W. C. Collins presided at the tea table, Mrs. E. E. Gonty at the punch bowl and those assist ing were Mrs. Joe Hughes, Mrs. Harold Sanders, Sr., and Mrs. Grace Nickerson. Mrs. Smith took pictures of the girls and their mothers. Soroptimists Observe Mother's Day With ... Children as Guests Mother's Day was observed by the Soroptimist club Thursday at their noon meeting at O'Donnell's, with each member bringing child ren as guests. W. Mahoney and Mr. and Mrs. Lowell Gribble were hosts last Friday evening to the Eighth grade students at a dinner party at the Mahoney home. Those present were Duane Al derman, Carol Anderson, Don Andrews, Kim Avent, Celia Boul den, Sharon Case, Joyce Casebeer, Ned Clark, Gayle Cox, Stephen Flug, Norma. Jean Geyer, Ren Harris, Bob Huffman, Kay Keith ley, Janice Martin, Carolyn Mc Daniels, Joan Moe, Leanne Pad berg, Ruth Peterson, Betty Petty john, Larry Prock, David Reed, Dickie Robinson, Marie Robinson, Richard Ruhl, Kay Sayers, Nancy Slocum, Judy Trobridge, Jim Wal ker, Douglas Gribbla, and Bobby Mahoney. Triple Link Club Meets Monday Eve The Triple Link club met at the home of Mrs. Pearl Devine Mon day evening with nine members present. Mrs. Lester Boulden spoke to the daughters, Mrs. Tom Wells lead the singing and the curtain pul lers for the tableaux were Mary Evelyn Tucker and Celia Boul den. 8 Christian Fellowship Has All Day Meeting The Women's Christian Fellow, ship of the Christian church held an all day business and mission ary meeting at the church Wed nesday. Mrs. Clive Huston was chair man for the missionary program on Pakistan and India. Mrs. Paul Jones was in charge of the meet ing and refreshments. On Thursday, thirteen mem bers of the church went to Her miston to hear Goldie Ruth Wells, former missionary to Africa, speak at a luncheon meet ing held in the church there. Bookworms Meet At Hughes Home The Bookworms met last Tues day at the home of Mrs. W. E. Hughes. Mrs. J. O. Turner re viewed "Gift from the Sea" by Anne Morrow Lindberg. Others present were Miss Leta Humphreys, Miss Lulu Hager, Mrs. Ted Smith, Mrs. Floyd Jones and Mrs. Cornett Green. Refreshtnents were served. Installation And Style Review Held At P-TA Meeting Installation of officers was held at the P-TA meeting Wednesday evening at the Heppner school. Those installed were Lowell Grib ble, president; Mrs. Robert Fer rell, vice president; Mrs. Harold Erwin, secretary and Mrs. Lena Kelly, treasurer. Reports from the state jubilee P-TA convention were given by Mrs. Ferrell and Mrs. Roice Fulleton. Mrs. L. E. Dick gave a report of the educa tion conference at Pendleton and a review of the year's activities was given by Mrs. Oliver Cres wick. A style review by members of the high school home economics class under the direction of Mrs. Homer Hager, instructor was given during the program hour. Shirley Kononen and Alice Peterson were narrators and back ground music was played by Jan ice Martin and Phyllis Quacken bush. Other numbers on the program were vocal solos by Marilyn Mun kers accompanied by Nancy Anderson; a piano duet by Caro lyn McDaniel andMarilyn Petty john and a trombone trio by El- meda Duran, Dick Ruhl and Sha ron Case, accompanied by Janice Martin. Mrs. Don Bellcnbrock was in charge of the program. Mrs. Paul Brown and Mrs. Fer rell were in charge of refresh ments which were served at the close of the meeting. 0-1 Junior-Senior Prom And Banquet Held Saturday Evening The annual Junior-Senior ban quet held Saturday evening at the parish hall of the Episcopal church was given by the mothers of the junior class and served by the sophomore girls. About 100 were present. The program included two solos by Marilyn Munkers accompan ied by Nancy Anderson. Philip Blakney was the main speaker and Charles Bailey emceed the program and introduced the sen iors. Stephen Green, president of the junior class, presided at the prom which was held later in the even ing at the high school gym. De corations followed the theme of "Neptune's Court" and under water decorations and murals were by Mrs.' Ernest Winchester. King and Queen of the court, chosen by the junior class, were Larry Mollahan and Sharon Rill. They were crowned by Shirley Peck, entertainment committee chairman. Degree of Honor Has Annual Inspection The Degree of Honor held its annual inspection Tuesday, May 10 at 8 p. m. at the Legion hall. Mrs. Clara B. Gertson, National Committee woman and State Di rector was inspecting officer. Roberta Hannon was recognized as a Junior Graduate and was ini tiated into the adult lodge. Also initiated were Mrs. Blanche Boul den, Mrs. Hazel Bauman and Miss Louise Adair. At the close of the meeting the drill staff put on their work. refreshments were served by Mrs. Alice Soward, Mrs. Mabel Chaffee and Mrs. Olive Hughes. lone Sorority Has Tea and Style Show Thf Rct.i Dmpra rhantr nf I Epsilon Sigma Alpha gave a tea and style show in the school cafe torium Sunday afternoon May 15. Those modeling dresses and other apparel were Mrs. William Snow, and daughters Jodv and Jerry, Mrs. Loren Leathers and daughters Marilee and Renee, I Mrs. Tad Miller, Mrs. Robert Hos-j kins, Mrs. Donald Heliker and! daughter Sharon Cutsforth, Mrs. I Pat Doherly, Mrs. Walter Carleyj and daughter Sherry, Mrs, Arthur! Warren, Mrs. Louis Carlson, Mrs.j Dclmar Crawford and daughters Marlene and Anita, Mrs. Gene Cutsforth and daughter Dianne, Carolyn Crabtree, Kay Sherer, Mardine Baker, Mrs. Harold Do byns, Janet Palmateer, Maureen McElligott, Lee Padberg, and Mrs. Jimmy ret ty John. These dresses were shown through the courtesy of Norah's Shop and Mary Van's Dress Shop and other shops in Heppner and the extension unit dress shops. Some of those shown were an tique dresses. Other numbers on the program were vocal numbers by Dennis Swanson and Larry Rietmann ac companied by Gene Rietmann; song, Kitten In a Basket by Cher yle Lundoll accompanied by Gene Rietmann and a reading When John Put Up the Stove, by Mrs. Omar Rietmann. Refreshments were served from tables decorated with spring flowers. Mrs. Eldon Padberg had charge of the program. Mrs. Leathers was presented an orchid by the members in appreciation of the work done as president of the chapter for the past two years. Officers Installed At Sorority Banquet Members of Beta Omega chap ter of Epsilon Sigma Alpha of lone were entertained at a ban quet in the Wagon Wheel lounge at O'Donnell's in Heppner one evening last week. Pins were presented to Mrs. Robert Hoskins, Mrs. Patrick Do herty and Mrs. Gordon White. The following officers were in stalled: Mrs. Donald Heliker, president; Mrs. Patrick Doherty, vice president; Mrs. William Snow, corresponding secretary; Mrs. Robert Rietmann, recording secretary and Mrs. Tad Miller, treasurer. o- Farewell Party Held For The Walkers Mr. and Mrs. Robert Walker were guests of honor at a farewell party held at the Christian church Monday evening. Two skits were given and gifts were presented to the Walkers in appreciation of their wonderful service in the work of the church. Mr. and Mrs. Walker plan to leave soon to make their home in the Willamette valley. Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Fergu son, Dr. and Mrs. E. K. Schaffitz, and Mr. and Mrs. Robert Penland were in Seattle over the weekend cot dainty to attend the Ice Follies. 1 Shirley Nash, reporter THE GAY LITTLE COOKERS The Gay Little Cookers met at the home of their leader, Mrs. M. C. Huggett on May 12. We dis cussed on having a mother's tea on May 21. There were five members pre sent. Those present were Connie Anderson, Wilma BothwelL Bon nie Hannan, Rose Marie Nash, and Shirley Nash.
