Tuesdays Mrs. Rodgers Honored With Tea Sunday A tea honoring Mrs. Lucy Rod gers, former county treasurer who is leaving soon to make her home near Portland, was given Sunday afternoon at the home of Miss Leta Humphreys. Hostes ses were Miss Humphreys and Mrs. Fred Parrish, assisted by the Bookworms and Soroptimist club. Guests called between the hours of 2:30 and 5:30 p, m. and those pouring were Mesdames Ted Smith, James Thomson, Ad rian Bechdolt, Vernon Munkers, Norman Nelson, E. E. Gilliam, Dick Wells, Lester Boulden, Carl McDaniel, Rufus Piper and John Bergstrom. During the afternoon a pro gram was enjoyed with Janice Martin and Carolyn McDaniel playing piano duets; readings by tfendra Jones; vocal solos by Marilyn Munkers, Mrs. Ture Pet erson and Mrs. E. J. Dobbie, ac companied by Mrs. J. O. Turner at the piano. Ukelele numbers by Jean Collins, Judy Cochell and Carol Anderson; violin solos by Irene Wilson and Piano solos by Jean Marie Graham and Mary Ruth Green. Tea was served from a table covered with a lace cloth, and centered with an arrangement of pink roses and white carnations. Bridge Club Meets At Marshall Home Mrs. Jack Marshall entertained the Reneger bridge club at her home Wednesday evening April 27. At the close of the evenings play, refreshments were served to Mesdames William Barratt, James Norene, William Labhart, Tom Wilson, Dick Meador, Gene Hall, Philip Blakney, La Verne Van Martor, Jr., Allen Case, Alex Thompson, Robert Gammell and the hostess. Mrs. Labhart held high score; Mrs. Wilson second, and Mrs. Van Marter, low. Annual Tea Held At Christian Church Saturday Evening The annual mothers and daugh ters tea was held at the Christian church Saturday evening with Mrs. Raymond Ferguson and Mrs. J. O. Turner chairmen of the tea and Mrs. Lennie Louden in charge of the program. The tea table had a center piece of yellow daffodils and blue iris and yellow candles were used. Those pouring during the even ing were Mrs. Ealor Huston and Mrs. Clara B. Gertson. Mrs. Pearl Devine and Mrs. Paul Jones pre sided at the punch bowl. The program, announced by Mrs. Marvin Smith, was a read ing by Sandra Jones, Sharon Bry ant a piano solo, vocal solos by Mrs. Ture Peterson and Mrs. Frieda Kajiya of Condon. o Meredith Ann Sorlien Tells Wedding Date Rev. J. Palmer Sorlien announ ces the engagement and ap proaching marriage of his daugh ter, Meredith Ann, to Jerald Craw ly King of Waycross, Georgia. The wedding has been set for Sunday evening, May 15 at 8 o'clock at the Beech Street Metho dist church, corner of Beech and Borthwick streets in Portland. A reception will follow the cere mony at the church and everyone is welcome. Rev. Sorlien, who is now pas tor of the Beech Street Methodist church, was pastor of the Hepp ner Methodist church for seven years, prior to accepting the Port land pastorate about two years ago. A SPECIAL ASSORTMENT American Mother's Day Cards Phil's Pharmacy Phil Blakney, Owner Conference Reports Heard Thursday At Soroptimist Club Reports of the Regional Con ference of Soroptimist clubs held in Seattle April 15-16 were given by Mrs. W. O. George and Mrs. Jos. Hughes,' delegates from the Heppner club, at the noon meet ing at O'Donnell's on Thursday. Mrs. Clara B. Gertson and Mrs. Pearl Devine, who also attended the conference, told of the things of the most interest to them. It is planned 'for the Regional Conference to be held in Coos Bay next spring. Mrs. Frank Hamlin was a guest of the club. The next meeting will be the regular monthly business meet ing and election of officers will be held. lone Sorority Plans Many Activities The Beta Omega chapter of Ep silon Sigma Alpha members met at the home of Mrs. Robert Riet mann Thursday evening April 28, with Mrs. Robert Hoskins as co hostess. They planned the banquet for pledges to be held at O'Donnell's in Heppner on May 10. They also made further plans for the tea and style show to be held May 15 in the afternoon at the school. The sorority is sponsoring the Etta Shepherd dancing recital at the school May 7. Proceeds to go to the crippled children's hospi tal in Eugene. Mrs. Loren Leathers gave a re port on the state convention in Eugene and Mrs.Eldon Padberg gave a report on the inter-unit council meeting in Pendleton. Each member made a . crazy hat, there were many clever ones. Mrs. Thomas Honored With Farewell Party Mrs. Don Thomas was honored Thursday evening April 28 with a farewell party, given by Mrs. Melvin Piper at her home. Mrs. Thomas and daughter Holly will leave May lrj for Japan to join her husband, who is sta tioned there. Pinochle was played during the evening with Joan Thomas hold ing high score and Mrs. Dean Graves, low. Guests were Mrs. Clyde All stott, Mrs. Carl Thorpe, Mrs. Al len Hughes, Mrs. Jim Prock, Mrs. Elwayne Bergstrom, Mrs. Dean Graves, Mrs. Fritz Cutsforth, Mrs. Arthur Warren, Miss Jean Tho mas, Miss Bernlce Huston and Miss Sharon Rill. Need Letterheads? Phone 6-9228 Conference Held At Methodist Church The Fourth Quarterly Confer ence of the Methodist church was held Sunday May 1. A potluck dinner was held after church and reports were given by each agency of the church, for the year. Dr. Edward Terry, Portland district superintendent conduct ed the conference. Election of officers were held with three new trustees being elected, they are J. R. Huffman, Oliver Creswick and Harry Du vail. There are six holdover trustees. Oliver Creswick was elected lay reader and Mrs. Lucy Rodgers, first alternate lay mem ber to the annual conference. Kenneth Carpenter is to be Sun day School superintendent ; Mrs. L. E. Dick, treasurer and Jack Angel, financial secretary. Other officers were elected and commit tees were appointed. Extension Unit Meets At Bergstrom Home The Rhea Creek Extension unit met on April 27 at the home of Mrs. John Bergstrom for the meet ing on sweet breads. Twelve members were present, Vern Batty, Emma White, Win ona McCabe, Muriel Palmer, Eva Wright, Mildred Wright, Frieda Slocum, Mary Wright, Sr. Hannah Anderson, and the hostesses Ruth Bergstrom and Marilyn Berg strom. Lunch was served at noon by Hannah Anderson, Mildred Wright and the hostesses. Election and installation of officers was completed at the meeting by Mildred Wright. Offi- IhwijoaKnow! After the dinner there was group singing and cards were played. Advisors present were Mr. and Mrs. W. James Popham and Mr. and Mrs. James Wilson. Farewell Dinner Held Wednesday Mrs. Lucy Rodgers was present ed with a corsage and an electric clock as farewell gifts at a din ner Wednesday evening at the Wagon Wheel.
