Heppner Gazette Times, Thursday, December 9, 1954 Page 3 Texas Couple Marry Here At Christian Church on Friday The Christian church was the scenti of a wedding last Friday evening when Miss Marcel Jones, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dillard Jones of Bay Town, Texas was married to A3 Gordon L. Johnson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Kent Johnson of Austin, Texas. The Rev. Earl L. Soward per formed the ceremony and attend ants were Mr. and Mrs, Robert Walker, Heppner. The bride wore a pink faille suit with pink hat and white ac cessories. She carried a jewelled Bible and a white orchid. She also wore an antique necklace which had been worn by the groom's mother at her wedding. Mrs. Walker wore a gray suit with pink accessories. Mrs. Fred Hoskins, Jr. sang "Oh Promise Me" and "Saviour Uke A Shephard Lead Us", ac companied by Mrs. J. O. Turner. The church was beautifully decorated ' with white candles, heather, orchid chrysanthamums and ferns. At the reception in the church Mrs. Roy Neiil and Irs. Theta Stratton poured and' Mrs. John son served the cake. The young couple will live at Moses Lake, Washington where the groom is stationed at Larson Air Force base. Mr. and Mrs. Johnson, parents of the groom, brought the bride here from Texas. Also accom panying them was Evan Soward, grandson of Rev. and Mrs. So ward and son of Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Soward of Austin, Texas. Birthday Party Honors Two on Friday Mrs. Blaine Chapel, Mrs. La velle Hams and Miss Ida Lee Chapel were hostesses at the home of Mrs. Harold Wright for a birthday party honoring Mrs. Wright and Mrs. Dolly Fraters on Friday December 3. - "The afternoon was spent in playing games and opening the many gifts. Refreshments were served by the hostesses to Mesdames Edgar Albert, Ella Farrens, Lucille Par ish, Elmer Palmer, Al Lovgren, Vic Lovgren, Harold Stevens, Ken neth Batty, Claude White, Les Robinson, Mary Wright, Sr., Roy Wright, Mary Wright and Dolly Fraters. NORAH'S IS HEADQUARTERS FOR Children's Gifts J 'I And Many More Gift Items NORAH'S 70 Attend Teachers Christmas Banquet About 70 Morrow county teach ers and members of the Rural and local school boards attended the Christmas banquet it the high school Monday evening, which was served by the P-TA. Vivian White was chairman for a discussion on salary schedules. Cecil Rosey, executive secretary of the State O. E. A. gave a talk on retirement and social security as it affects teachers. Mrs. Mildred Hoberg was in charge of entertainment which included two skits. Participating in the first skit were Mrs. Lucy Rodgers, Cecil Rosey and Jack Flug. In the second skit were James Popham, Miss Joyce Smith of Irrigon, Melvin Bates of Lex ington and Chester Ward of lone. There was an exchange of gifts with Mrs. Marie Clary act ing as Santa Claus. Miss Marguerite Glavy had charge of the decorations. It was announced that the drive will continue for 1007., membership in O. E. A. in Mor row county. Elks Ladies Party Held Thursday Eve Thirteen tables of cards were in play at the Elks ladies night on Thursday December 2. Prizes in bridge were won by Mrs. Raymond Ferguson, high; Mrs. Gene Ferguson, second and Mrs. Floyd Jones the traveling prize. In pinochle Mrs. Sadie Sigsbee was high, Mrs. Walter Becket, second and Mrs. Fidelis Unrein the traveling prize. Mrs. James Driscoll won the special prize. Hostesses for the evening were Mesdames Bert Kane, Henry Hap. pold, James Lovgren, Dean Gil man and Ike Cole. Gayle Albert To Marry December 18 'Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Albert are announcing the approaching mar- riage of their daughter Gayle Rae to Richard Lawrence Fuller, son of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Fuller of Turner, Oregon, Saturday even ing December 18 at 8:00 o'clock at the Christian church in Hepp ner. A reception will follow the cere mony. All friends are cordially invited. Gonty home Soroptimist Club Makes Plans For Christmas Party The Soroptimist club held their regular monthly business' meet ing Thursday noon at O'Donnell's. Committee reports were given and bulletins distributed. It was reported that the Christmas box to the sister club in Tamworth, England had been sent and it was decided to send a box of cookies and candy to Boys Town on the Columbia. It was voted to run a Soropti mist member to fill the vacancy on the Cemetery Maintenance District board. Also voted to have no meeting on December 23. The Christmas party was set for Monday December 2o at the home of Mrs. E. E. Gonty. At this time the club packs bokes of home-made candy and cookies for the Veteran's hospital in Wal la Walla and boxes containing a Christmas dinner for some of the elderly men in Heppner. o Election Held By OES Saturday Evening Ruth chapter No. 32, Order of the Eastern Star held election of officers at their meeting last Saturday evening. Mrs. C. C. Carmichael of Lex ington was elected worthy mat ron and Paul Jones worthy pat ron. Other officers elected were as sociate matron, Mrs. Roy Quack enbush; associate patron, Howard Keithley; secretary, Mrs. Tom Wells; treasurer, Mrs. Edna Tur ner; conductress, Mrs. Dick Wil kinson; associate conductress, Mrs. L. D., Tibbies. Mr. and Mrs. Harold Becket, outgoing matron and patron, gave each of their officers a gift. Mr. and Mrs. Becket also received gifts from their officers. An addenda was presented called "Hang Up The Badges". Refreshments were served by Mrs. Paul Jones, Mrs. Fred Sand ers and Mrs. Dean Hunt of Lex ington. Installation of officers will be held Saturday Dec. 1. Mrs. Mahoney Hostess Whats Trumps Club j Mrs. P. W. Mahoney entertain ed the Whats Trumps bridge club with a salad luncheon on Wed nesday afternoon at her Hager St. home. "Dearlv Beloved" and "Because of You" were sung and the tra ditional box of chocolates was passed. A June wedding is planned. Couples Club Started By Episcopal Church Mr. and Mrs. L. E. Prothers and Mr. and Mrs. Ladd Sherman of: Hermiston were in Heppner Men- j day night to help organize a Cou- j pies Club in the Episcopal church. ' The Couples Clubs, which have been organized in other churches in the area such as Hermiston and Pendleton are designed for the married couples of the church. Activities planned for the Hep pner group are potluck dinners, hay rides, progressive card par ties and work for the church such as painting and repairing of church property to be done at times other than meeting night. , A successful meeting was re-( ported and it is hoped the idea1 will grow in popularity. j Refreshments were served by the hostesses Mrs. Jack Loyd, Mrs. j Robert Gammell, Mrs. George, Rugg and Mrs. Jack Marshall. Members of the Oddfellows lodge were invited to attend the Christmas party December 17 at nine o'clock. Refreshments were served after the meeting by Mrs. Robert Dobbs and Mrs. Adele Bailey.
