W. bhsiow ex plained to them that fires could be prevented by burning rubbish and that a large per cent of fires were started by careless use of matches and cigarettes. The boys were taken for a ride on the fire truck. Melvin Martin also accompanied the group. The group is still in need of another Den mother. Mrs. Harry Yarnell returned home from Vancouver, Wash., on Friday of last week. Rev. Wilfred McKay and son Neil, Mrs. Ralph Crum and daugh ter, Bonnie, and Peggy Allen at tended the annual Motorcade of the Nazarene Church to the Col lege at Namna, Idaho last week. At this meeting food was brought for the faculty of the college, en tertainment was provided and a football game was enjoyed. The girls stayed in the college norm and learned some ot me inings about the college. Mrs. James Lindsay entertain ed the Eastern Star social club at her home Wednesday, Oct. 6 with Mrs. Herbert Ekstrom as co-hostess. Cards were played and those winning prizes were, high, Mrs. Fred Mankin, 2nd high, Mrs. Wm. Smethhurst and Mrs. Ed I Trace the door prize. The extension unit met at the home of Mrs. L. A. McCabe on Thursday Oct. 7 with 24 members present. Mrs. E. M. Baker and Mrs. Harold Slurer demonstrated making bread. They made whole wheat, and white bread, cinnamon and dinner rolls. A pot luck dinner was served at noon. At the business meeting conducted by Mrs. Bryce Keene, president, the following commit tees were appointed: Mrs. E. M. Baker, 4-H; Mrs. Omar Rietmann, A. C. W. W.; Mrs. L. A. McCabe, hospitality; Mrs. Oscar Peterson, luncheon and Mrs. Echo Talma teer, publicity. . A handkerchief is being autographed which will be presented to Mrs. Maud Cass well, former demonstration agent. The unit is getting a cotton dress shop under way and any one in terested should get in touch with Mrs. L. A. McCabe. Alton Yarnell, Rollo Crawford and Tom Huston returned home Thursday of last week from De troit, Chicago and Nlagra fans. Yarnell purchased a new car be fore returning home. They saw the Stefanls in Chicago. Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Rice and son, Bobby, spent the weekend with relatives in The Dalles. Jerry Bristow, student at E. O. C. E. at La Grande, spent the weekend with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. E. W. Bristow. He was accompanied by Allen Brown of Lakeview. Mr. and Mrs. Dutch Strahm and family of Arlington spent Sun day at the Ralph Crum home. Mrs. Harold Dobyns is visiting relatives at San Francisco.
