lone Community Church Elects Officers By Echo Palmateer Fredrick Martin was re-elected moderator at the annual meet ing of the members of the com munity church Sunday Sept. 19. Other officers are Alfred Nelson, assistant moderator; Mrs. E. M. Baker, clerk; Kenneth Smouse, treasurer; Claude Riley, Sunday school superintendent; Mrs. Wal ter Roberts, assistant Sunday school superintendent; E. M. Baker and Fredrick Martin, dea cons; the other deacons are Lloyd Howton and Adon Ham lett; deaconesses, Mrs. Dale Ray and Mrs. Frank Engleman; the others are: Mrs. Noel Dobyns, Mrs. Milton Morgan, Mrs. Fred rick Martin and Mrs. O. L. Lun-' dell; trustees, Noel Dobyns and Claude Riley, the others are Omar Rietmann, Milton Morgan, Alfred Nelson and Mrs. Echo Palmateer; Mrs. Noel Dobyns was re-elected as Sunday school secretary with Judy Howton as her assistant and Mrs. Wallace Matthews was re-elected as Sunday school trea surer. Mrs. Roy Lindstrom, Mrs. Raymond Lundell and Mrs. Ro land Bergstrom are on the board of education and Mrs. E. M. Baker, Mrs. Lloyd Howton and Mrs. Milton Morgan are the music committee; Mrs. Verner Troedson and Milton Morgan are the auditors. A potiuck dinner preceded the meeting at which around 75 were served. Joe Hausler entertained the group with several selections on his zit her. Dates to remember: Sept. 23 Social meeting of the Topic club at the home of Mrs. Milton Morgan at 2:15 p. m. Sept. 26 Flower show spon sored by the Garden club at the Legion hall 2 to 5 p. ,m. Sept. 2S Three Links club of the Rebekahs at the home of Mrs. Mary Swanson in the afternoon. Oct. 2 Food, pie and coffee sale at the Legion hall in the af ternoon sponsored by the Beta Omiga chapter. Oct. 3 Promotion Day at the Community church Sunday school at 10 a. in. Oiling has started on the Rhea Creek road. The work is being done by Babler Brothers. Mr. and Mrs. Algott Lundell and Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Lun dell and daughters attended the wedding of Miss Caroline Sparks, to Alan Reynolds of Corvallis at the Sunnyside Methodist church in Milton Firewater Saturday evening Sept, 18. Mrs. Reynolds Is the daughter of Lee Sparks of Dufur and was a former resident here. Mr. and Mrs. Carl Bergstrom spent the weekend with their son and family, Mr. and Mrs. Norman Bergstrom at Echo. Other guests there were Mr. and Mrs. Tete Janin of Portland. C.uests last week at the Alfred Nelson home were his parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. H. Nelson of Oak Grove and her parents, Mr. and Mrs. S. C. Ransdell of Portland. Mr. and Mrs. A. E. Stefani and Mr and Mrs. A. A. Stefani and children left Sunday for the east. They will attend the world ser ies while there. Stefani gave a dinner Tuesday Sept. 14 in honor of their daughter, Teresa's third birthday. Dinner guests at the Roger Kincaid home Sunday were Mr. and Mrs. Art Hoppell of Lyle and Mr. and Mrs. Robert Bell and Charles Bell of Hermiston. Fredrick Martin attended a hoard of education of the Metho dist churches at Camp McGru der at Barview last week. Mrs. F. M. MeClintock gave a birthday party Sept. 18 at her home in Cecil In honor of Mr. MeClintock. The evening was spent in playing cards. Others present were: Mr. and Mrs. Jack Hynd Jr. and son Dick; Mrs. Her bert Hynd and daughter Carol; Art Alby; Mr. and Mrs. John Kniche; Mrs. Mary Kittner; Mr. and Mrs. Dick Krebs and child ren; Mr. and Mrs. John Patton; Mr. and Mrs. Elvin Miller and son Paul; Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Taylor and Mr. and Mrs. Grover Curtis, Mrs. Claude Riley gave a party Sunday Sept. 12 in honor of Mr. Riley's birthday. Roy Lindstrom, Garland Swan son, Denward Bergevln, and Walter and Noel Dobyns re turned home last week from a fishing trip to Anahim and Nim po lakes in British Columbia. They reported a very successful and enjoyable trip. Miss Beverly McMillan of Salem spent the weekend with her grandmother, Mrs. Mary Swanson and other relatives. She was accompanied by Miss Susan Dick of Salem. Mrs. Sadie Olson of Spokane is visiting at the home of her bro ther, H. O. Ely and other rela tives. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Blanch ette and children are living in the Paul O'Meara apartments. Mr. Blanchette is 1 working in Arlington. The H. E. C. of Willows grange met at the home of Mrs. Marion Palmer Friday of last week with Mrs. Claude Riley, and Mrs. Har old Dobyns as co-hostesses. At the business meeting in the af ternoon, a dinner and bazaar were planned to be held at the grange hall Oct. 23. Mrs. Sam Esteb received the door prize. A potiuck dinner was served at noon and refreshments in the afternoon. At the Willows grange meeting Saturday evening it was decided to have Booster Night Nov. 13; with a potiuck dinner at 6 p. m. followed by a program. Mrs. Harry Yarnell returned home last week from Vancouver, wash., where she visited her son and family, Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Yarnell. Mrs. Ruby Nichols recently took her son Lyle to Salem where he is attending the blind school. She was accompanied by Mrs. Delia Corson and Miss Opal Briggs as far a Portland. Those present having birthdays were Mrs. Wate Crawford, Mrs. Delia Corson and Mrs. Echo Palmateer. The host esses were Mrs. Ida Coleman, Mrs. Harvey Ring, Mrs. Arvilla Swan son and Mrs. Lloyd Morgan. Mrs. Cleo Drake and Mrs. Paul Petty john had charge of the games. A new roof will be put on the I. O. O. F. hall soon. Visitors at the E. W. While in Portland, Mrs. Etta Huston visited Mrs. Addie Binns, who was a former resident of Morrow county. Mrs. Binns is 92 years old and still active. Mr. and Mrs. Ted Palmateer and children returned home last week from Portland and the coast. They also attended the State fair. Mrs. Annie Healy of Butter Creek accompanied them. Recent visitors at the Paul O' Meara home were his sister, Miss Margaret O'Meara of Santa Rosa, Calif, and his brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Mike O' Meara of Madera. Calif. Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Orton of Hermiston are the parents of a son born Sept. 18. Mr. and Mrs. Henry Baker of lone and Mrs. B. B. Orton of Pendleton are the grandparents. Mrs. Rena Clisby of Portland is the great-grandmother. Mr. and Mrs. Bob Taylor of Gresham spent the weekend with Mr. and Mrs. Roy Lieuallen.
