Or itle Cutsforth of Lexington pur chased the gilt donated by the South Heppner Livestock Club and he in turn, turned it back for resale to Phil Emert. The annual pig scramble pro ceeded the sale with scramblers Dan Rrosnan of Heppner, Jimmy Martin, Kenneth Nelson and Billy Doherty of Lexington; and Ken neth Smouse of lone catching pigs donated by Ralph, John and Ivan Akers of lone, Robert Camp bell of Echo, Kit George, Connie Anderson and Paul Webb of Hepp. ner. These pigs or one if its lit ter will be exhibited at the 1955 fair. Buyers at the sale were: Mor row County Grain Growers, Orv illo Cutsforth, Nelson Brothers, LeRoy Martin, Ben Gottschalk, Vv'm. J. Doherty, D. O. Boardman News By Flossie Coats (Too Late For Last Week) BOARDMAN Mr. Edd Kuhn and son Wayne Kuhn former me chan'e for the Midland Construc tion Company has opened their own shon in the Art Allen build ing on the old highway under the name "Boardman Garage". Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Kuhn are mov ir their trailer house on the lot on main street just north of the Postoffice, while Mr. and Mrs. r'd Kuhn will soon move to the Ray Brown lots, from the Flock Trailer Court where they have been the past several monfhs. Mr. and Mrs. Larry Carpenter and son, Eugene spent the week here at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Delbert Carpenter. The Boardman Ladies Aid met Wednesday afternoon at the church for the regular Aid meet ing. Special business was the purchase of a new electric stove and water heater for the kitchen, purchase being from the Board man Supply. Committee serving was Mrs. Jess Allen and Mrs. Paul Matt, Mrs. Matt assisted for her mother Mrs. Robert Miller who was unable to attend. Sgt. and Mrs. Kenneth Newlin and Mrs. Thurman Johnson and daughter left Thursday for De- troit, Mich., where the Newlins will visit their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Arkee Newlin and Mr. and Mrs. G. C. Roberts, while Mrs. Johnson and daughter will motor on to Londonderry, N. H. for a thirty day visit with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ned Reynolds. Miss Knight was winner of a scholar ship from high school. Miss Maxine Sicard, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Sicard, was winner in the county at the Heppner demonstration in bread baking. Miss Sicard left Mon day with her mother, Mrs. Si card, for Salem where she will enter the State Contest at the State Fair. Mr. and Mrs. Harold Cudd and daughter Brenda, Portland were weekend gupsts at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Mav Vannoy. Mr. and Mrs. Nathan Thorpe and daughters motored to Oth,! ello, 'Wash., Thursday and were callers at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Mulligan while there. Sunday dinner guests at the home of Mrs. Blanche Jones, was her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Bob Zerba and children, Pendleton. Mr. and Mrs. Dale Russell and sons, The Dalles, were house guests this weekend at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Seth Russell. This is the first child for the Fairs. Grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Herman Zemke, Newberg, and Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Fair, Lodi - lone Schools Chester L. Ward, Superintendent Monday Sept. 13 the school held its first pep assembly to make arrangements and plans for the coming year. The cheer leaders are Judy Howton, Jean Ann Swanson and Sue Coleman. Those girls are experienced cheer leaders and will do a fine job for ! dent body of the high school but tnrougnout the grade school and to all who will be concerned. The students are asking the entire community to cooperate in this sportsmanship as they did so splendidly last year. Plans are almost complete for the freshman initiation and party The school has a regular policy on this and it will be carried out as usual. The bonfire committee is about ready with their big annual bon fire to be held sometime before the game with Heppner Sept. 24. A large crowd went with the team to Stanfield Sept. 13 to the Jamboree there, We are very happy that such a large group hacked the cheer leaders at the Jamboree. Our boys did a very fine job under the circumstances. They lost the opening game with Echo 8 to 0 and played the 5th quarter with McEwen with a score 0 to 0. The games gave them much needed scrimmage work. I Mr. and Mrs. Edd McClellen and family was here from Port-1 land this past weekend at the ) home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Edd Kunze and doing some fin ishing on the new home of the JKunzes. 4-H Club News BUSY STITCHERS The members of the Busy Stitchers clothing club made a good showing at the county and state fair this year. All of the members completed their work and exhibited and modeled in the style revue at the eounty fair. The blue ribbon awards in the sewing' construction at the county fair were given to Judy Thomp son, Sharon Rill, Meredith Thom son, Sally Palmer, Patsy Wright and Janet Wright. These ex hibits all went to the state fair where Sharon Rill, Sally Palmer, Judy Thompson, Patsy Wright and Janet Wright all got red rib bons and Meredith Thomson a white ribbon. The county style revue was held on Thursday night with the committee of Mildred Wright, Marie Martin and Donna Berg strom' having charge. The grand champion of the style revue was Snlly Palmer, and she was also champion of the fifth division. Meredith Thomson received the champion of the fourth division. These two girls modeled at state fair and Sally brought back a blue ribbon which was $10. The other blue awards at the county fair went to Judy Thomp son, Patsy and Janet Wright. The club plans to continue next year with most of the same members. , The Busy Stitchers and Peachy Preservers club went together and presented a farewell gift of $5.00 to Maud Casswell, home demonstration agent of Aug. 26 at the Rhea Grange hall.
