' Games were played and re freshments served after the opening of the gifts. 50th Anniversary Reception to Honor Ashland Couple Lexington News By Delpha Jones Mr. and Mrs. Jack McMillan and children were weekend visi tors at the Frances McMillan home. Tony Carlin from Gary, Indiana and-arrived Monday for a visit with Luncheon Honors Mrs. S. Thompson Mrs. E .K. Schaffitz and Mrs. Robert Penland entertained with bridge luncheon Monday after noon at the Penland home in honor of Mrs. Stephen Thompson who is leaving soon to make her home in Pendleton. Those present were Mesdames Raymond Ferguson, Tom Wilson, Emile Groshen, Claude Graham, John Pfeiffer, William Barratt, James Thomson, W. O. George, L. D. Tibbies, Harold Cohn, Or ville Smith, and Stephen Thomp son. Mrs. Tibbies held high score, Mrs. George was low and Mrs. Cohn received the traveling prize. Mrs. Thompson was presented a guest gift. Mr. and Mrs. R. B. Wilcox of Ashland, Oregon will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary here at a party given in theirj Mrs. Malcolm O'Brien, Mr. honor by their daughter and son- Mrs. Bradley Fancher, Mr. in-law, Mr. and Mrs. John Graves. A family dinner and reception will be held at the Graves Rock Creek ranch and friends are in vited to attend. Gammells Hold Pre-Dance Potluck Mr. and Mrs. Robert Gammell entertained Saturday night with a potluck dinner at their home in Clark canyon preceding the Kick Off dance. Table decorations featured yellow candles surrounded by yellow and orange daisies and guests were served refreshments on the porch preceeding the dinner. Those attending were Mr. and Mrs. Claude Graham, Mr. and Mrs. James Farley, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Loyd, Mr. and Mrs. John Pfeiffer, Mr. and Mrs. Jeff Carter, Dr. and Mrs. Ed. Schaffitz, Mr. Mr. and Mrs. Ray Ferguson, Mr Pinochle Club Meets Friday Mrs. Roy Orwick entertained her pinochle club Friday at her home. Guests were Mesdames Frank Hamlin, Walter Becket, Fred Mankin, Ed LaTrace, Bob Lowe, Max Harris, and Earl Evans. Dessert was served before the members played cards. Mrs. Max Harris winning high, Mrs. Fred Mankin, second and Mrs. Walter Becket, consolation. o i Song Fest Enjoyed By Soroptimists A song fest was enjoyed by the Soroptimist club at their noon meeting Thursday at O'Don nell's. Mrs. C. C. Carmichael ac companied the group on the piano. Old and new Soroptimist songs were sung and Happy Birthday was sung in honor of the May, June and July birthdays. A birth day cake was served also in honor Alberts Announce Forthcoming Marriage Mr and Mrs. Edgar G. Albert of Hardman announce the approach ing marriage of their' daughter, Patricia Florence to James Ver non Prock, son of Mrs. Maurice Elder and Vernon E. Prock of Heppner. Mrs. Allyn will be remembered as Alone Shannon of this city. Mr. and Mrs. O. W. Cutsforth motored to Ephrata last weekend where they went after their small daughter, Barbara Lisa, who has been there with Mrs. Ciitsforth's sister. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Mar guardt are in Portland where Mr. Marquardt underwent major sur gery at the Providence hospital there. He is reported to be get ting along as well as can be ex peeled. Miss Dona Bamett and Mrs. Trina Parker spent several days here attending to business mat ters from their summer home at Camp Sherman. Carol Messenger, Stephen Klin ger and Margaret Kendall are spending this week at Cove at the Christian church summer school. There were quite a number of Lexington and Heppner people went to the Jess Turner ranch on Sunday and helped fight a range and wheat fire which lasted for several hours. Mr. and Mrs. George Irvin were Pendleton visitors on Monday. The Nita Grey family have moved into the Bob Davidson apt.s. Mrs. Ray Papineau and daugh ters are visiting with the Van Winkle Jr. family from their home in Ephrata. Guests at the E. E. Lucille Kendall of Heppner Is visiting this week with Charlene Jones. Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Wetzel en tertained several members of the young people's class at a party Saturday at their home. After a most enjoyable evening of play ing games, refreshments were served to the following: Phylis Nolan, Janet Kendall, Marilyn Munkers, James Herbison of rrineville, Jerry Messenger and Margaret Hughes of Heppner. The C. E. held a party and a hike at the church on Monday evening. Games were played and the group enjoyed a hike up the cemetery hill, after which a sack lunch brought by the children was enjoyed with dessert and drink being furnished by Mr. and Mrs. Douglas Price. There were about 13 present. Mr. and Mrs. Homer Hughes motored to Portland Sunday where they visited her father, Charles Marquardt who is a pa tient in the hospital there. The movie, "The Call of the Navajo" will be shown at the Lexington Christian church Sun day. This is a reportedly fine film, and all are invited to attend. Mr. and Mrs. T. E. Messenger Sr., and son Jerry, and Mr. and Mrs. Franklin Messenger and girls, and Mr. and Mrs. Carl Mar quardt and Mr. and Mrs. Bill Mar quardt were Boardman visitors over Sunday. Out of town friends who were here Tuesday to attend the fune ral services for Mr. Breshears in cluded Mr. and Mrs. Carl Whil lock and daughter Sandra of Brookings; Mrs. John Henzite, of Junction City; Mrs. Vera Walker and Vernon Walker, Pasco; Mr. and Mrs.M. Burchell, Sheridan; Mr. and Mrs. Malcolm Richelder fer and family, The Dalles; Mr. and Mrs. Everett Crump and fam ily of Corvallis. Mr. and Mrs. A. M. Edwards visited in Ephrata, Wash, over the weekend accompanying their son Johnny, who went alter his wife. Monument News Mr. and Mrs. Earl Barnard spent last weekend at Ukiah with Mr. Barnard's nephew and wife, Mr. and Mrs. Homer Halstead. On their way home they visited with Elvie Jackson and Mr. and Mrs. i Tunis Round. j Mrs. Forrest Nolan (nee Francis Johnson) and baby are visiting her parents. Mr. and Mrs. George Mantis and son Dicky drove to Pendleton Tuesday and came home with a new Nash ranch wagon. 'A grass fire started on the Fred Page ranch on Tuesday. It was soon extinguished wit Flint much damage. The 22-100 of a mile of high way, built by state funds but the work was done by the J. C. Comp ton Construction Co., was finished on Wednesday and Mr. O'Kelley, the blade man, left immediately for Mt. Vernon. This niece of construction is a great improve ment for Monument. Mrs. Hattie Musgrave of Mt. Vernon and her nephew from Salt Lake City, were dinner guests of her daughter and son-in-Jaw, Mr. and Mis. Rho Bleakman.
