New First Grade Teacher Named For

Mrs. Elva Shannon of La
Grande has been elected to teach
the first grade in the lone schools
for the coming year. She has had
experience in Idaho and qualifi
cations for teaching in Oregon.
She will live in the Paul O'Meara
apartment recently vacated by
the Chester L. Wards.
The afternoon swimming class
es have been discontinued but the
morning classes are still being
conducted and the regular swim
ming is still in the afternoon.
Construction started on the
wading pool Monday and will be
finished in ten days.
Dr. and Mrs. Chester L. Ward
were recent Portland visitors and
attended to some school business.
They were also in Pendleton on
school business.
Wren Crawford and son and
daughter and family, Mr. and
Mrs. George Miller and children
of .Portland visited at the Wate
Crawford and the Delrr.er Craw
ford homes last week. Wate Craw
ford and Wren Crawford are bro
thers. The book, Indigo Bend by Gra
ham, has been added to the pub
lic library.

has a months vacation. He will

attending. Mr. Martin spent last
weekend there and then the fam
ily went to Astoria to visit her
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Hor
ton and to West Linn to visit rela
tives.
Kenneth Lundell of Oakland,
Calif., is visiting his parents, Mr.
and Mrs. Oscar Lundell. He came
up with Lyle (Pinky) Allyn who
spent a week visiting in Oakland.

picking berries on the ranch in
Sandy.

Doherty.
The Maranaths Club met at the
home of Mrs. Dale Ray Wednes
day July 7 with Mrs. Wate Craw
ford as co-hostess. The members
were shown samples and plans
for carpeting the floor in the
Community church. A committee
was appointed to decide on the
project. Mrs. Grace Ware re
ceived the door prize.
