UNION MISSIONARY MEETING AT VALBY LUTHERAN ATTRACTS SIXTY-FIVE The Union Missionary Society held its regular meeting Sunday afternoon at the Valby Lutheran church in Eight Mile with sixty five members present. Following the business meet ing conducted by Mrs. Hoy Neill, president, the following program was presented. Reports from missionary groups of all churches participating were given by Mrs. Kenneth Carpen ter, Methodist; Mrs. A. D. Mc Murclo, Episcopal; Mrs. Claude Huston, Valby Lutheran; and Mrs. F. K. Parker, Christian. Mrs. Algott Lundeli and her granddaughters Karen and Cher yle Lundeli presented a piano trio, followed by Mrs. Lucy Peter son who sang a vocal solo accom panied by Mrs. Henry Peterson. A violin solo was played by Mrs. Tom Wilson accompanied by Mrs. Howard Peed. Mrs. Alfred Troed son gave a reading and sang a vocal solo accompanied by Mrs. Lucille Owens. Mrs. Earl Soward Children Guests of Soroptimist Club Mother's Day was observed by the Soroptimist club Thursday noon at O'Donnell's, with each member bringing their children or some child as a guest. Mrs. W. O. George welcomed the guests in behalf of the club and presented the program. David George recited "I Want To Learn To Whistle", Kay Keithly and Judy Collins did some fancy baton twirling and the group all sang America. The tea for the Senior girls and their mothers is to be Sunday, May 2.') from 2 until 1 in the af ternoon at the home of Miss Leta Humphreys. Guests of the club were Bill Hughes, Kay Keithly, Judy Col Ins, Philip, Mark and Susan Blak ney, Meal Pcnland, David George, Ka'thy McLaughlin and Sheryl Bellenbrock. Mankin Home Scene.. Of Card Party Friday Mrs. Fred Mankin entertained at her home Friday afternoon with a pinochle party. Guests were Mrs. Walter Bee ket, Mrs. Frank Hamlin, Mrs. Max Harris, Mrs. Hubert Lowe, Mrs. Ed LaTrace. Mrs. Oreu Wright and Mrs. Hoy Orwick. Prizes were won by Mrs. Or wick. high; Mrs. LaTrace, second; and Mrs. Hecket. low. Refreshments were served to t he group by the hostess. played a recording of Missionary Hosa Page Welch's relatings of different incidents in each coun try of her missionary work. A smorgasbord was served to the members by the Valby church women. Mrs. Leonard Carlson was in charge of the refreshments and Mrs. William Rawlings had charge of decorations. Presiding at the tea table and coffee table were Mrs. Claude Huston and Mrs. Roy Neill. . o New Officers To Be Chosen By American Legion Auxilliary The American Legion Auxiliary held their regular business meet ing Tuesday night at the Ameri can Legion hall. During the business meeting, Mrs. Howard Pettyjohn, Girls State chairman announced that Lillian Elde had been selected 'as the units representative to Girls State in Salem. A nominating committee of Mrs. Dick Wells, Mrs. Gene Fer guson and Mrs. Walter Edger was appointed to select officers for the coming year. Program chairman, Mrs. Clar ence Johnson presented the fol lowing program, a vocal solo by Mrs. Lucy I'eterson accompanied by Mrs. Charles Ruggles; banjo music by Roy Quackenbush ac companied by Mrs. Clive Huston and two readings by Mrs. Mildred Hoberg. Refreshments were served by hostesses Mrs. Earl Evans, Mrs. Walter Becket and Mrs. Edger to the following members present: Mesdamcs Creston Robinson, Ned .Sweek, Dick Wells, Don Bellen brock. Dick Meador, Howard Pet tyjohn, Elwin Hughes, Clarence Johnson, Riley Munkers, Kemp Dick. William Heath, Grace Hughes, Hoy Quackenbush, James Farley and Ray Bailey. The next meeting will be a no host dinner at O'Donnell's cafe June 1. Coffee Hour Held at Bellenbrock Home The first "Sashaying Sally" coffe hour was held at the home of Mrs. Don Bellenbrock Wednes day morning. This is an impromptu gathering of American Leion Auxiliary wo men at a members home for the purpose of raising money for the organization. Each member at tending leaves twenty-five cents with the hostess for the coffee and dessert she has received. Guests at Mrs. Bellenbrocks were Mesdames Jack Marshall, LeRoy Gardner, Creston Robin son, Ned Sweek, Elwin Hughes, Dick Wells, James Farley, Dick Meador, Howard Pettyjohn and William Labhart. Rainbow Girls Hold Mother's Day Tea A Mother's Day tea was held Sunday afternoon by the Rain bow Girls in the Masonic hall in honor of those members who have since joined the organization, be come married. Honored guests were Mrs. Rita Graves Piper, Mrs. Delores Drake Rowell, and Mrs. Patricia Drake Tucker. Mrs. Mary Van Stevens gave the welcoming address and a piano solo was played by Helen Graham. Carnation Club Has Birthday Party The Carnation club held its May meeting at the home of Eu genia Huston. It was the birthday party and those having birthdays in April, Clarence Mrs. Turner Hostess For Bookworm Club Mrs. J. O. Turner was hostess to the Bookworm club which met at her home Tuesday night, May 11. Mrs. Cornett Green reviewed the book, "The Fields of Home" by Ralph Moody. Others present were Mrs. James Thomson, Mrs. Floyd Jones, Miss Leta Humphreys, Miss Lulu Hager, Mrs. Loula Bengtson, Mrs. Lucy Peterson and Mrs. Ted Smith. . OREGON Altar Society Plans Fall Smorgasbord Mrs. Les Wyman, Mrs. Stephen Trukositz and Mrs. Harry O'Don nell Jr., were co-hostesses at the season's final meeting of the Altar Society of the Catholic church Tuesday night May 11 at the Wyman residence. Plans were made for a smorgasbord to be held in the fall.
